Logging into Xubuntu using x2go

A lot of people have noticed that logging into Xubuntu using x2go results in a stock Xfce desktop instead of a Xubuntu one. Some workarounds for this have been identified and posted at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xubuntu-meta/+question/157817in case anyone is interested.

X2go i18n team

Hi all, we would like to set up an i18n team for X2go. The task of this team will be the maintenance of translation files in all X2go projects that utilize translation mechanism. Do I need to be able to read and write code for this? Definitely, no! Become a member of a translation team is a possibility to be in close contact to the developer team without necessarily being able to code. Only pre-requisite: you use X2go quite regularly and no the functionalities of the X2go components... plus: your English is good enough to find good translations of menu items, dialog boxes, etc. Each translator is responsible for the translation files of his/her language. Of course, it is also possible to maintain one translation language as a sub-team (that is: one language is maintained by more than one person). Currently these applications are using translation features: x2goclient pyhoca-gui x2gognomebindings plasma-widget-x2go (KDE$ binding) x2godesktopsharing x2goadmincenter ... (possibly more to come) ... The idea is to have a dedicated mailing list for announcing x2go-i18n issues (mostly mails like: ,,i18n Team, please translate this-and-that'' and a permanent team (with fluctuations, if needed, but preferably not so much fluctuation among the team members) that feels responsible and dedicated to providing a multi-lingual X2go environment to the world. The tools that we use for translations are currently versatile. Depending on the team we will find ways to standardize the translation technologies (if the team members are flexible with using different i18n tools, then this may not be needed). Hi, we are using x2go as Terminal-server-Solution instead of an LTSP-server in the skolelinux edu-debian-environment. The TS-server works an the Clients are working well, but: 1) The RAM fills with old x2go-sessions. They are not killed by any service anytime. The used RAM grows up and the server-performance decrease. I "solved" the problem by killing all x2goagents-prozesses with cron twice a day. 2) The home-directories of my users fill with log-files like these : /home/pcag01/.x2go/S-es01-119-1313081349_stDKDE_dp24and they are not deleted. 3) My logfiles in /var/log like message or syslog grow up to a few hundred MB for example with entries like these: Sep 22 06:30:24 ltspserver01 ltspserver01 console-kit-daemon[24530]: WARNING: Record was not written to disk (File too large) Sep 22 06:30:55 ltspserver01 last message repeated 606 times Is there anyone who understands what my server makes? Hi all, the DNS issue is settled, the new DNS settings for the x2go.org domain are now correct again. Please be patient, the sites will be available for you again soon (a matter of some hours)!!! The Debian package repository and the Git site of X2go are temporarily unavailable due to DNS transfer problems. Depending on your location on the web this problem will last for at max. 48-72h. Question about Pyhoca-gui

Hello, To use Pyhoca-GUI you need 4 steps: - start Pyhoca-GUI, what only adds an icon - find and open the icon - connect to a server - start a session to that server I think for many normal people this is "complex". They would like 2 steps: - start the program, so that it's visable and not only an icon - start a connection and session to a server I am afraid this is not possible with Pyhoca GUI. Correct? x2goclient does not connect, Pyhoca-GUI does.

Hello, Strange problem. I connect with x2goclient to a customer, it says after a very short time: "Access denied. Authentication that can continue: publickey,keyboard-interactive". When I connect using SSH with the same username and pasword and as the same user, there is no problem to connect. I've also tried Pyhoca-GUI. That worked without problems too. Can somebody explain me what's the underlaying difference? Maybe some different library is used for DNS or something like that? When I try it with x2goclient using a wrong password, there is nothing in the /var/log/auth.log on the not-working-host. When I connect to another customer with x2goclient, there is no problem. Hi all, today I have discovered and fixed a bug in pyhoca-gui that caused session profile problems in x2goclient after pyhoca-gui had been started on the same system for the same user (on Linux, both use the same config file: ~/.x2goclient/sessions). The symptoms were: o start pyhoca-gui o edit a session profile, change it from some desktop command to a non-desktop command o switch it back to a desktop command again o in pyhoca-gui you won't realize a problem o but: if you use this session profile in x2goclient, a desktop session will start in non-desktop mode: many individual windows are opened for the different desktop applications and applets I have just uploaded pyhoca-gui 0.1.0.8, which fixes this compatibility problem. The new pyhoca-gui version will also repair session profiles: edit a broken profile and save it again (from within pyhoca-gui). The session profile should be usable in x2goclient again, then. SOLVED X Connection Refused problem

Hello, all. We've seen a couple of postings in the past where users just could not connect and would get session errors about the X connection failing with a 111 Connection Refused and a message about channels with certain file descriptors and IDs not being closed. We've hit this in the past and have never gotten around it reliably. Any success seemed to be purely random luck. Today, we cracked one definitively. The problem was a mangled /tmp/.X11-unix directory. It is very specific to our environment but it may jog someone else's mind to find what the ultimate underlying issue is. We have been working on creating portable, encrypted boot sticks to boot a lightweight Linux desktop to connect to our X2Go systems as a way of getting around the poor performance of the Windows X2Go client as well as provide extra security, lower end user support requirements, further separation between the data center based "Content Network" and the unmanaged end devices, and portability between physical computers. All the testing and builds were done with the same very old laptop with Debian Squeeze. The only differences was one boot stick was built by installing Debian from the netinstall CD and used LXDE and the other was built with debootstrap and used Xfce. In both cases, we had a script named settmp to move the /tmp directory into RAM if there was sufficient RAM in the machine. It did this by copying anything already in /tmp to a scratch directory, deleting everything in /tmp, remounting /tmp as a tmpfs, copying everything back in, and then erasing the contents of the scratch directory. File transfers were done with rsync to ensure easier and safer handling of hidden files (no rm -Rf /tmp/.* - which deletes /tmp/.. ! - thankfully did not learn that the hard way). The LXDE system ran x2goclient perfectly well but the Xfce system almost never connected. Suspecting it was an SSH problem because of the channel error messages, I tried doing an ssh -X to the x2goserver and running xterm. It complained about a connection refused and pointed to .X11-unix which I remembered was in /tmp. I wondered if the moving and then moving back was mangling it. I then restarted X on the same system now that /tmp was already moved and x2goclient worked perfectly. I then rewrote the script as a real init script and used insserv to place it before x11-common. After several reboots, it has worked flawlessly. x2goclient connects all the time. In retrospect, I had comment out the settmp script on the LXDE station while troubleshooting something else and had forgotten about it! So, we successfully solved the dreaded X connection refused problem in our environment. Hopefully that will help the others who have been burned by it - John
