Different display ratio at server and client

Hello everybody, I would like to use X2Go to get access to my desktop remotely. The server has a two monitor setup and I would like to access this desktop through a laptop. So far the X2Go client has shrunk the display horizontally, which makes it hard to work with it. I am looking for a solution to overcome this issue. Currently both the server and the client runs Xubuntu 20.04 LTS. There are two simple intuitive ways I can think of: 1. show only one monitor and have a bindkey/button to switch between displays 2. open the remote desktop in a window with scrollbars Is there anything similar already implemented? Or are there any other ways to make using remote desktop with different display resolutions practical? Thanks, Zoltan

Windows 10 Error - X.Org Server did not launch correctly after 4 tries

Hello, I am trying to use X2Go to access various servers from my Windows 10 64 Bit laptop. Occasionally it works great. Mostly when trying to start a session I receive the following error: " X.Org Server did not launch correctly after 4 tries. Please check your installation." I'm running Windows 10 Enterprise 64 bit Version 20H2 Build 19042.804. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, this does not fix the problem. I've attached the output of the debug log from when I've tried to run it this morning, but I'm having a hard time deciphering it. Any ideas on how to help resolve this would be appreciated, this is a fantastic tool. Thank you, Rich Sakalas

accessing windows that fall off the screen

Hi folks, Another question for you: sometimes I reconnect to an x2go session from a computer that has a smaller display than the one that I previous connected from. The problem is that some of the windows now fall partially or fully off the display. The partial ones are usually accessible by clicking and dragging their borders until enough of them appears so that the window can be dragged back in to full view. The usual X11 keystroke/mouse combination for dragging a window isn't passed through to the x2go session, so this only works on the high-level x2go window (presumably there is a way of creating a different keystroke/mouse combination that is passed through). But for windows that fall completely off the screen, I can't see how to access them. Any ideas? I'm using xfce. Regards, Michael

Help with broken X2go client

Hello, I have been using X2go client only iMac connecting to a Debian 10 linux box successfully for about a year. Recently it has stopped working. I have a MacBookAir and that still connects to the same linux box fine via X2go client. I did get a message the other day on my iMac that I could update the version of Xquartz, which I did and continued to use X2go client successfully following this for a while and then X2go client then stopped working when I tried to connect one morning. I have subsequently removed this new version of Xquartz and installed the same version as on my laptop, 2.7.11 but I still am unable to connect. I have also removed X2go client and reinstalled but still no joy. Any hints or ideas would be much appreciated. Many thanksTrevor

nxagentReconnectFailedFonts: does anyone have a solution?

Hi folks, Last week I connected to a long-running x2go session using a different computer than I normally do. It worked fine. But later that day when I returned to my usual computer, I ran into the bug where the session would start up, but then disconnect within about a second, with the error messages: > nxagentReconnectFailedFonts: WARNING! Font server tunneling not retrieved. > nxagentReconnectSession: WARNING! Unable to retrieve all the fonts currently in use. Missing fonts have been replaced. A google search shows that this bug was reported 7 years ago, but no solution appears to be forthcoming, apart from trying to adding fonts. But with over 1000 fonts on the server, I have no idea how to find which ones need adding. Are there any ideas out there for how to address this problem? It is certainly frustrating to be unable to connect to a running x2go session, and having to terminate it on the server. Regards, Michael

script to automatically restart x2go client session after coming out of suspend

Hi folks, I thought that some of you might be interested in a small script that I use to automatically restart an x2go client session after returning from suspending the client computer: #!/bin/bash while true; do pyhoca-cli -R NEWEST --link wan -g 3768x2123 --pack 16m-png-jpeg-9 user@computer & while ! wmctrl -r X2GO -e 0,0,0,3768,2123; do sleep 1; done echo sleeping sleep 10 wait done The idea is to use pyhoca-cli to handle the connection. The "wait" line waits until the pyhoca-cli subprocess ends, which happens shortly after the computer comes out of suspend. The "wmctrl" line is just to resize the window to fit my display. Change the numbers 3768x2123 to suit. The "sleep 10" I had in there while debugging to avoid runaway creation of sub-processes, which is capable of crashing the x2go server session. The nice thing about this script is that I can be up and running with the x2go client session within less than 10 seconds or so of coming out of suspend, without having to tediously interact with the x2goclient GUI. In turn, this means that there is almost no friction in suspending/resuming my desktop computer, with consequent power savings. The script could be improved by starting a new session if there is no existing one. Regards, Michael

Hi Uli, Thank you- concur about images- in the past, copy-paste of them only worked within a session, not across. My workaround was to paste-save to /tmp on the host and then open saved image from another session. But nearly all copy-paste for me is text / URLs. X2GO Crash When Resizing columns in Cliosoft Sos

I am using a program called Cliosoft SOS. It has a window that displays in columns like an Excel file. When I resize one of the columns then my X2GO session window crashes. The start window where I pick which session to start stays running. There is a horizontal scroll bar to move the columns sideways. When I drag that then the X2GO window crashes. I can resize the entire SOS window without any problems. I do not see this sort of behavior in LibreOffice Calc. I have attached the session log and the client debug console output showing a few of these crashes. My client is v. 4.1.2.2 on Windows 10. I am connecting to a CENTOS 7 system running X2GO 4.1.0.3-9 server which came from the Epel repo. Is there some way to fix this or is it a bug that I should report? Is there any additional information that I should gather? Anything I should ask the software developer?

Cross-session copy/paste issue

Hi folks, Let me first say thank you to X2Go maintainers- I happened upon X2Go about 6 months ago when figuring out how to switch my workflow from Fedora VMs on MacOS to distinct desktop environments on Fedora. It is such a profoundly excellent tool. Thank you for your efforts. Now- to describe a problem that just cropped up, hoping someone can help me debug. I have been running Fedora 32 - XFCE on a Thinkpad, simultaneously running 7 distinct local X2Go sessions under 7 different host users. Each session's window resides within its own XFCE logical desktop, and I switch between them with the switch desktop hotkeys. X2Go sessions are configured to support bidirectional copy/paste, and generally it works seamlessly to copy text or images from apps in one session's window to another or to/from the host. Last night I upgraded to Fedora 33, with the requisite updates to X2Go. Now, copy/paste is reliably broken in one area: * from host into any session still is fine * from session into host still is fine * from a session into the same session still is fine * from one session into another session no longer works On failed pastes- where the copy was from one session and the paste is another session- when the paste recipient is a browser (Chromium, Firefox, whatever), sometimes the recipient browser tab temporarily locks up trying (and failing) to retrieve the paste material. All X2Go sessions are still configured for bi-directional copy-paste.
