NX (redistributed) -- x2goagent fully integrated into NX-libs (call for testing)

Hi all, recently there has been some noise about X2Go re-working its NX code base. Indeed some quite interesting things have been going on recently around NX and X2Go. During the last weeks we have completely reworked the way we build NX libraries. This has fixed a lot of instability problems people had recently (summer/autumn 2011) already. During this last week we set up the X2Go subproject ,,NX (redistributed)'' (aka nx-libs.git on http://git.x2go.org) The X2Go project's developers (esp. Mike and Reinhard, supported by Alex and Heinz) have decided to re-distribute NX sources as one big tarball that builds with GNU make and contains patches not accepted by NoMachine themselves. The building of the tarball with GNU make already works fine, the ,,make install'' still needs more work. John Williams has agreed to contribute on that (thanks for that!!!). @John: please note that I have uploaded a new tarball containing the functionality described below ;-): http://code.x2go.org/releases/source/nx-libs/nx-libs_3.5.0.5-full.tar.gz During the last days now, we have achieved something that so far has hardly been imaginable (at least to me). We have incorporated three patches into nx-libs.git that allows to turn NX's nxagent into x2goagent during runtime: 01: http://code.x2go.org/gitweb?p=nx-libs.git;a=blob;f=debian/patches/200_nxage… 02: http://code.x2go.org/gitweb?p=nx-libs.git;a=blob;f=debian/patches/201_nxage… 03: http://code.x2go.org/gitweb?p=nx-libs.git;a=blob;f=debian/patches/999_nxage… X2Go's agent is now part of NX and is maintained in nx-libs.git on http://git.x2go.org. The x2goagent package from now on depends on nxagent (as they are one). The x2goagent package provides a symbolic link to nxagent, a separate x2goagent man page and a wrapper script in /usr/bin, nothing else. If nxagent is executed unter the name of x2goagent, the X2GO branding gets activated within nxagent. Also: ,,NX (redistributed)'' is fully FreeNX compliant. Install ,,NX (redistributed)'' from the X2Go package archives and add FreeNX (Ubuntu Launchpad) on top of that. FreeNX and X2Go can now again be installed parallely on the same system. Interesting for migrations or client diversity. This step also allows us to finally abandon the following source projects completely now: nxcomp.git nxcompext.git nxcompshad.git nxproxy.git x2goagent.git See also at the bottom of this page: http://code.x2go.org/gitweb As this is esp. a call-out for testing the new packages(!!!!) here are some short infos on upgrading your X2Go test servers. Packages are available for Debian squeeze, wheezy, sid and Ubuntu lucid, ..., precise. Terminate and resume in 1 click ?

Hello and Happy New Year to everyone! I have been using X2go for a few weeks now, and it works really well. In my application, users keep a session open indefinitely, and carry it from one terminal to another. When doing this, the session is usually still open on a previous terminal, so when taking the session to a new terminal, the user has to first click the terminate button, then the resume button. Wouldn't it be more straightforward to include a terminate operation in the resume button, so that one can resume a session in one click, without clicking the terminate button first, and the client will terminate the session if necessary before resuming it? This is how NXclient works (which I used before). Is there perhaps already a way to do this by modifying a command line argument or a script somewhere? Thank you! Jean

connection issue

Hi to Everyone Have an issue with x2go that is probably a very simple issues but its doing my head in. I have a Ubuntu server with x2go installed as the preferred method of linking up with the desktop ( from OVH). I installed the windows front end of x2go on to both my win 7 pro desk top and work's laptop using default settings. I then started a new session entering all my detail of the server in the appropriate slots and connected to the server no issue first time. Then whilst configuring my server i messed a couple of things up and decided to reinstall the OS , no issue on that front . But this is where the issue lies every time i try to connect to the server now using x2go it says "Authentication Failed: Host key for server has changed , Its is now ( and then gives the key code) for security reasons connection will be stopped" and then the whole x2go program crashes, I have deleted the session and started a new one but same issue. I have even tried to uninstall x2go , then reinstalling but when i do this i always have a session with my ip from the server already in the program ( as if it is leaving a cach somewhere of old sessions) i have been to documents and settings and deleted all hidden .pub files and x2go folders that are left after uninstall. Any body shed any light on this very simple but annoying issue I can connect to the server via putty and NXmachine no issue but x2go is been a little stubborn Regards Mike

Stefan, Are you still having this issue? It doesn't sound like it's related to Lion. Are you able to connect from another client (Windows, Mac pre-Lion, Linux) with the same settings? x2go Client on Mac OS X Lion (10.7) [Workaround]

Dear all, i've updated to MacOS X Lion and get the known Problem that "Rosetta" is needed. Background image in x2goclient on tce

Hello, is it possible to customize the background image of the x2goclient running on tce? I am not talking about the splash screen in grub (which users never get to see if the thin clients are on), but the background shown at the session login screen. Thank you! Jean

Automatic mounting of USB drives

Hello, I know that it is possible to share folders from the client (such as a plugged in USB drive) with the remote session prior to logging into the session. I would like to know if there is a mechanism by which USB drives mount automatically in the remote session when plugged into the client, while the session is already up? Jean

New user unable to connect from x2goclient on thin client

Hello, I have been using freenx for a few years, and have been looking for something better since freenx is no longer maintained and sound support is shaky. I was very glad to find the x2go project, specially since it works exactly like I imagine with diskless thin clients (I have to use USB sticks to boot my current clients for freenx). Anyway, after being somewhat confused by the outdated info and repositories listed on x2go.org, I found the wiki and was able to install x2goserver (onto Ubuntu ) and configure a PXE thin client environment. To my surprise, the thin clients booted on the first attempt and x2goclient came up, which was very unexpected! Now I have the following problem: - I can login without problem from a windows x2goclient onto my ubuntu x2goserver - however any attempt to login from the pxe booted thin clients fails. The client displays (after starting nxproxy 3.5) Connecting to remote host 'localhost:33001' And then Connection timeout aborting On the server I find these logs: /usr/bin/x2goagent: line 1: -e: command not found NXAGENT - Version 3.4.0 Copyright (C) 2001, 2007 NoMachine. See http://www.nomachine.com/ for more information. Info: Agent running with pid '24505'. Session: Starting session at 'Fri Dec 16 22:11:43 2011'. Info: Proxy running in server mode with pid '24505'. Connection refused when using LAN

Hi x2go folks, when trying to access my local x2go server using connection type LAN, the connection is refused/gets lost during the startup. It works when setting the connection type is set to WAN or ADSL. The console output of x2goclient is attached. Any hints are appreciated. Thanks in advance.
