Hi, I have just finished translating the Norwegian (Norwegian Bokmaal) version of x2goclient, and I will continue on the the rest of the packages. I intend to try to keep them updated as new strings appear. What I did to add the new translation follows here, and if I did something wrong here I hope you will advise me on how to do it correct. (for the initial git setup, I followed the wiki here to my set name and email: http://wiki.x2go.org/wiki:development:git ) 1. "git clone git://code.x2go.org/x2goclient.git" 2. "cd x2goclient" 3. "git checkout" 4. Copied the German translation into a new file named "x2goclient_nb.ts" 5. Editied the x2goclient.pro file and added the line: "TRANSLATIONS += x2goclient_nb.ts" 6. I then updated the *.ts-files with the command: "lupdate x2goclient.pro" (This lupdate command also updated all the other language files too, so I replaced them with the originals) 7. Translated the x2goclient_nb.ts in Qt's Linguist translation application 8. "git add x2goclient_nb.ts" 9. "git commit" 10. "git format-patch -1" The last command (step 10) created a patch-file for emailing which I've attached here. What is your preferred way of receiving language files/changes? Is it ok for you to get them as patches which are prepared with the 'git format-patch' method here? Should the address patches@x2go.org be used instead, or maybe get a copy? I wrote the way I did the whole git and translation process because it's missing on the wiki (where I thought it would be written down, it says "TODO" - both on the devel page, and also on the documentation of the Translation). If this is an approved way of doing the translation process, or if you can correct me, I can write this up on the wiki if you would like me to. How can I go about to get write access to the wiki? wow! I guess I've asked a lot of questions here - sorry for that! But as I'm new to the project and there are "black holes" in the documentation, I hope you will be lenient with me :-) Best regards, Terje Andersen
Hi Terje, thanks for your contribution and your willingness to help continuously in the future. I am cross-posting this mail to x2go-dev so people become aware of an assembling i18n-Team. @Stefan: make sure you subscribe to this list, as well: http://lists.berlios.de/mailman/listinfo/x2go-i18n On Mo 13 Feb 2012 01:00:18 CET Terje Andersen wrote:

Great!!!

- "git clone git://code.x2go.org/x2goclient.git"

- "git format-patch -1"
This howto basically is ok. We have removed the x2goclient_LANG.qm files from Git now, as they are actually build cruft and do not belong into Git.
The last command (step 10) created a patch-file for emailing which I've attached here.

Great, this is a good place to attache those files for now. (Until we have _and_ use a common bugtracker for X2Go upstream coding).

Please start a page on this and send me the link once you have achieved something. I will proof-read.

Asking questions is absolutely fine!!!

Keep up the good work... BTW: your .ts file has been committed. http://code.x2go.org/gitweb?p=x2goclient.git;a=commitdiff;h=373da1c16fb5cad8... Unfortunately, Qt4 seems to lack Bokmal support. So not all elements/widgets of x2goclient will be translated. Test packages are currently building for Debian, Ubuntu package will follow within the next 24 hours. Please install x2goclient from the nightly build repos you prefer for your OS/Distro. Your translation is incomplete. Please check with a normal text editor, there are loads of German phrases left. No idea, why you missed those with QtLinguist (I am not Qt expert...). Could you check that again? Thanks! Yes, I forgot that there was some strings which where grayed out in Qt Linguist (not possible to translate). I have found the error I did; I shouldn't have copied the German translation file, all I needed to do was to add the language to the x2goclient.pro file, then the Norwegian Bokmal file would have been created correctly with the command 'lupdate x2goclient.pro'.
Could you check that again?
I'm almost finished with correcting this and I'll send a new patch file later tonight.
Thanks! Mike
Thanks for noticing! :-) Regards, Terje

Have you already sent your patch? Maybe I missed it? Hi Mike, No, you didn't miss it - I never got to finish it that evening, but it's finished now. I'm attaching a patch to the previous one - if you'd rather want a patch from git HEAD, please tell me. Thanks + regards, Terje

I guess easiest for translation files is sending the whole x2goclient_no_nb.ts file to this list. When updating translations later on, it surely is recommendable that you do a git pull on your Git working copy (or clone anew), so that you get considered all the changes that may have occurred during a period of not-translating. Forget my other mail, the applying of that diff/patch worked out fine. We should stay with patch files...
