Client 3.0.1-2 versus 3.0.1-4

Hello, all. We were thinking of using the Windows 3.0.1-2 client to experiment with using vcxsrv as the Windows X Server rather than Xming. I remember that there was an enormous performance improvement in our systems when we moved from -2 to -4. Indeed, we found -2 unusable and -4 just about as fast as Linux. Was the only change including a built-in Xming as per http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Xming/Building or were there other changes as well? Thanks - John

hi, is it possible to save the password along with the username in x2go plugin config? this would be great for public demo servers where user should not need to enter a password. regards heiko

Disappearing Mouse on Windows 7

I've not seen this problem yet but I don't use my Windows 7 x2go client as much as my linux client. Just to not overlook the obvious... maybe this is a Windows 7 problem? I thought to go search for reported problems with Windows 7 and found the following: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itproui/thread/46c91bbe-3cf… *My mouse pointer disappears after a few minutes of inactivity. When I toucih the mouse pad, a square appears with little blue dots appears for a second or two, then goes away. The mouse pointer at this point may or may not re-appear. If not, it takes a lot of moving the mouse around to get the pointer back.* * I know there is a trick, if you turn on mouse trails and set the trails to the lowest setting, it never disappears. BUT I have certain games which do not work with mouse trails on.* I don't know if the above is some "well-known" solution or not but that message lead me to Microsoft's own site and a search for "Windows 7 disappearing mouse" which returns many people reporting the problem: http://support.microsoft.com/search/default.aspx?mode=r&query=disappearing+… Whatever the solution for those of you having the problem I'd first see if the general Microsoft population is reporting the problem using some of the same hardware or Windows 7 settings that you have. Perhaps that will lead to a solution. Hi Gerry, I donated 10 pounds and tested the current payed XMing code. However that code crashes almost as frequently as the GPL code. If you start a session with XMing and move your mouse a bit around, the X-server crashes (on Windows 7). I haven't tested on Windows XP or Vista. As I have written before, the python client will have a configurable X-server, so vcxsrv would certainly be tested! FYI: Status of X2go Git preparations

Dear list, [In the role of future Git Admin for X2go I send you the following information. Sending this info had already been agreed on a week ago, however, in a very exciting and also strenuous last week, sending this mail to the X2go-dev list simply got lost temporarily on my TODO list. Sorry for that!!!] For those who are interested in the X2go public Git preparations: you can watch the X2go developers (Heinz and Alex) work as they prepare the latest X2go code for public Git at their sandbox site: http://git.x2go.org The Git sandbox site can be viewed in a web browser, Git checkouts/pulls, however, are not possible there. Currently, the plan is to restructure the X2go source tree a little more in order to make working with it more intuitively for us all. For this process Heinz and Alex still need a little more time (as they do it after they have come home from work and there are still a few issues to discuss). However, with the Git preparation sandbox (see above link) you can already grab a preview of the official community repository later on presented at (pullable & branch-pushable) BerliOS. Hi List, We (Mike Gabriel and myself) are currently developing a new Python based (gui)client. For me the main reason was the instability of XMing, the X-server that is incorporated in the current X2go client. The new Python client will have a configurable X-server. So if you want to use Cygwin/X it is OK, if you want to use Xming it is OK, and if you want to use a commercial X-server that should work also. We hope to have a working copy at the end of next week. Off course that will be Beta, but should be usable nevertheless and should have all features included. After that testing should be done on Windows and Mac. x2gosessionlimit

Hi list, I have been trying to set x2gosessionlimit to limit the number of active sessions. So as a simple test I set the x2gousers group setting to 2 and then started creating sessions for users that were part of the x2gousers group. It did not seem to limit the number of sessions that I could create. So is this not the correct usage? I read John's post from last summer about x2gosessionlimit but there was no response to his post. Can anyone shed some light on this? Regards, Gerry

hi Gerry, Please add also wxPython 2.8 as a requirement. For me the main reason to develop this is that the windows client is not stable if used with a single application. The problem is with XMing, try to run a single application and move the mouse fast around if running under Windows 7 and it crashes. Furthermore I think we can make some enhancements for the gui, (operating from the Taskbar, automatic minimizing of the gui etc.) and as python and wxpython are crossplatform we can run the same code on mac, Linux and MS-Windows. So we would have only a single code base to maintain, which would be good for the quality of the total solution. We are working very hard on this development, but it will take some time before it is all stable.
