i18n Support for PyHoca-GUI

Dear X2go community, today I have added i18n support to PyHoca-GUI. A German translation is already available in SVN: https://svn.das-netzwerkteam.de/x2go/pyhoca-gui/trunk/po/de.po The dutch translation will probably be done by Dick Kniep from Lindix in the Netherlands. My question: are there people on this list who volunteer in doing other translations? There are currenlty 159 i18n-tags waiting translation per language. I would be really very grateful if people on this list would pick up on this job. Of course, once you have raised your hand as a i18n maintainer, I will contact you on outstanding updates in regular intervals. Looking forward to community cooperations!!! X2go windows client trouble

Hi In a first time , i must thank you for yours works . I am really happy to found X2GO project . Exactly what i was looking for ... but ;) I experiment some bugs from the windows client tested with x2goclient-3.01-4 to 13 (release 14 just crash at start on my seven64). I am shure the bug is due to the way i intend to use the client. Let's me explain ;) i do this before with xming (its works but it was slow). I define single application that start the command /usr/bin/gnome-panel. In that's way the gnome panel start and you can use linux seamlessly inside you windows desktop ... even linux apps go in the windows taskbar ... ;) Perfect .... but sometime (try 20 seconde moving your mouse on the menu) when i let's my mouse move on the gnome-panel menu the x2go connection crash. I am frustrated because exepting that random big trouble , it's just perfect. Of course i have try connect normally or even custom desktop with /usr/bin/gnome-panel command and there is no bug. Inside xming wizard there is a launch command for multiple windows (the way i was doing my trick sucessfully before with xming). And the parameter single application is "single" ... ;) Maybe a new skill as define connection for starting a multiple windows command as /usr/bin/gnome-panel. if it's the trouble. you can easyly test and reproduce it. I am shure you will understand how it could be great to start gnome-panel and use linux seamlessly inside windows ... Other subject : I can only use basic image or .JPG compression but nothing else ? jpg works fine but when you see rdp ...;) for my test i have use the client you know and stable and unstable release of the server. Its just does not changing any compression protocol ability or connection trouble. Sorry for my english best regards, romain

Problem with initial user configuration on Ubuntu

If a new user is created on Ubuntu (with users-admin or adduser), and the initial GUI login is performed with X2Go, the default XDG directories (as defined in /etc/xdg/user-dirs.defaults) are not created. I'm not sure what script or tool is supposed to handle that but it's either not executing or failing.

X2go Git now available at BerliOS

Dear X2go-folks, the X2go Git repository at BerliOS has been set up today. A commit to master will be equivalent to an X2go release. The develop branch will be the branch that you can derive your own branches from for features you want to implement (and possibly propose for integration into X2go). Currently, the develop branch is a simple copy of the master branch. Heinz and Alex have just finished a complete rewrite of the x2goclient that will use libssh as opposed to ssh binary calls in the background. Alex has proposed a patch to upstream libssh that got accepted and once the new libssh version is released there will be a commit to the develop branch containing the latest x2goclient code. This is expected for the end of January 2011. We are also still discussing the Git branching model details. As a template for the discussion we use this document (as proposed by HedgeHog from the x2go-dev list): http://nvie.com/posts/a-successful-git-branching-model/ There will be some slight modifications to this model but the discussion will take place along this very fine piece of work. USING X2go/Git: =============== You can anonymously clone a working copy of X2go Git with this command: $ git clone git://git.berlios.de/x2go x2go BerliOS users should also be able to clone a working copy with this command: $ git clone ssh://<developername>@git.berlios.de/gitroot/x2go x2go If you want to branch off of the develop branch for your own implementation work, then do this after having cloned the BerliOS Git: $ cd x2go $ git checkout develop $ git checkout -b branch_<featurename> ... where <featurename> is a short string of your choice (at least for now) that describes the feature you are going to implement. If you intend working on a feature that you would like to become part of X2go some time in the future then we should agree on some, e.g.: 1) please talk to Heinz and Alex about your ideas first, don't simply start working 2) make sure that you work in small portions, do not rewrite the complete code and expect a merge 3) document your work 4) ... ??? ... For now, feature branches will stay on your local file systems. Once, we have finished our discussion on the Git branching model we will inform you on how merge requests can be send to the project (probably via a commit of your feature branch to BerliOS, but we will see...). Joakim If you haven't read this yet off of the old x2go website you might want to read about how Linux4Afrika Project<http://www.linux4afrika.de/x2go/basic_installation.html>configured their x2go servers. That web site and information is a bit "dated" but it can give you some ideas. One thing caught my eye in your email are a couple of your statements: "the setup will serve 200 x2goclietn users on a wlan" If the goal is to support 200 simultaneous users... I'm not sure those 2 servers can do that. But if its just to support 200 accounts with some portion of those logged in at any one time then it can work but will still need some sanity scale testing by yourself to know how many at any one time can be logged in. Second, over a wan you don't say what kind of bandwidth your WAN has. So basic questions will be what is bandwidth of WAN link to the site or sites. How many users would be on each of those WAN links sharing that bandwidth. Keep in mind no NX technology whether x2go, NoMachines NX or anyone else can defy physics so the size and number of Servers has to be in line with the number of users and the load represented by the x2go server as well as any APPs they run. While testing I noticed that there are no hanging tunnels if I use SSH keys to authenticate (http://wiki.x2go.org/passwordless_authentication_using_ssh-keys) if you don't want to modify x2goclient-cli that might be a workaround. Hi, could someone elaborate on the hardware requirements for x2goserver setup. It is for educational use so the primary applications is openoffice and firefox on kde or gnome desktop. The setup will serve 200 x2goclient users on a wlan. At the moment I have 2 used IBM servers with SCSI RAID, dual Pentium 4 CPU, ram unknown. Does the load spread automaticly or will the user have to choose server at login, when using x2goserver with more than one node? Thanks, Joakim

.xinitrc and .xsession

Hello, I'm currently struggling with LXDE to get it localized into German on an English system, which seems to require exporting LANG= into the X session. Nothing works so far, so before I investigate further, a maybe dumb question: Are .xinitrc and/or .xsession used at all when using x2go, or is a different file kicking in then? ;) Thanks, Florian

PyHoca-GUI v0.0.18 released for testing (using Python X2go 0.0.28)

Dear list, I have just released another test version (v0.0.18) of PyHoca-GUI (a wxPython X2go client implementation for the systray). Debian (>=squeeze) and Ubuntu (>=lucid) packages are available for installation. Further information can be found here: http://das-netzwerkteam.de/site/?q=node/71 Changes / modifications / improvements since last announced release (v0.0.15): o greatly improved session management (X2goSessionRegistry class) -> which makes it possible to notify more properly about what happens to running/suspended sessions o added/enabled a session profile manager o added edit functionality for connected profiles o added local folder sharing while session is connected o added SSH proxy support (see below) o rudimentarily added XDMCP support (not yet fully working) o added command line option that make PyHoca-GUI portable (esp. interesting for Windows version which will be available soon) o added Xserver support for Windows version The SSH proxy feature: ---------------------- As it was a customer request and also something I need regularly I implemented a SSH proxy server feature into PyHoca-GUI. What it does is this: 1. create a forwarding tunnel to some well protected host via my server: ssh -lmike myserver.local -L 54321:host.reachable-through-VPN.via.myserver:22 2. then connect an X2go session to myserver.local:54321 in order to reach the highly protected server at the end of the above SSH tunnel. SSH proxy support adds for new options to the sessions file: usesshproxy=true|false sshproxyhost=<hostname>:<port> sshproxyuser=<username> sshproxytunnel=<loca_host>:<local_port>:<remote_host>:<remote_port> SSH proxy support, of course, is implemented with Python Paramiko. The SSH proxy settings can be editor for each sesson profile under the ,,Connection'' tab. I have tested configuring SSH proxy quite a lot with PyHoca-GUI and x2goclient-qt. Both apps use the same sessions configuration file and the above options persist well when editing session profiles with either of the GUI applications (PyHoca-GUI known how to interpret them, x2goclient-qt simply ignores them). @Heinz+Alex: I was quite happy to see that x2goclient-qt ignores unknown session options and leaves them also untouched when editing a session profile. PyHoca-GUI also does this with session options it does not know. Thus, it is possible to add session profile options to the sessions (or GCONF or WINREG) file without the clients interfering with each other's ,,special'' options. light+love and happy new year (soon!!!)
