I think all of the comments are good points regarding NoMachine's going closed source but I believe that precedence is that if you have historically provided the code under GPL you have already given those that use that software the perpetual right to continue using... just don't expect the originator (re NoMachine in this case) to fix bugs, improve on it etc. NoMachine also has their own issues to deal with as some of their software I have got to assume was implemented using GPL'd code or snippets thereof so they would have had to rewrite their own using someone with no knowledge of or access to the original code. That is probably just one reason why the new version took so long as its nearly 18 months overdue. Someone in the thread did mention that if NoMachine continued with some of the 3.x NX code that was GPL'd they would have to contribute back to the 3.x source any changes they make. But... all of the above may be nothing or just fodder for lawyers to make money arguing over. I think it would be worthwhile to post the question on the NoMachine forum as a question and get their official answer as it is a legitimate question that they must have decided on when they went closed-source for the 4.x release of NX. I'm probably the right person technically to ask the question or name what modules etc but perhaps someone on the list could and let us know their answer. Just a thought. Brian

NoMachine's licensing

I asked nomachine and here is their actual license. As I'd suspected the GPL components that they use NoMachine points out were GPL already and nearly 80% of the overall NX project. Given that I'm not sure they can copyright those modules as they were based on other GPL projects... see URL: http://www.nomachine.com/ar/view.php?ar_id=AR10B00018 Under the NoMachine EULA <http://www.nomachine.com/licensing> it limits their copyright to the following programs: *4.1 Commercial NoMachine Software NoMachine Commercial Software consists of the following computer programs that have been developed by NoMachine: - nxserver - nxnode - nxmanager - nxclient - nxapplet - nxstat NoMachine owns the copyrights and intellectual property in and to each item of NoMachine Commercial Software.* The EULA also names all of the Open Source NoMachine programs separately that remain open. The URL that Erik provided says: Note also that to maintain the code ununcumbered of copyright, patents and licensing issues, it is required that you agree on giving to NoMachine a *Joint Copyright Assignment, granting the right to use your contributions in future NoMachine software, being this future software open or closed source and intended for commercial or non commercial use*. Such a JCA is standard in the industry, being required, for example, to contribute to Apache or to some projects sponsored by the GNU FSF. What is this error that I get when installing x2godesktopsharing on Ubuntu? Setting up x2godesktopsharing (3.0.1-2) ... [: 36: x2gousers:x:105:ubuntu: unexpected operator Also I upgraded the server to 3.0.99 so which sudo entries can I now remove from /etc/sudoers? %x2gousers ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/x2gopgwrapper <== can all of these sudo entries be removed? X2go GIT Repo - Patches?

Hi Mike, as there now is an "official" git repo. What shall we do with the work we did? There was quite a bit of dependency-cleanup and build fixing involved to get things running at launchpad. SSHFS and Permissions

Hello all, I have been working on making removable media available to Windows via a Samba share and hit a very strange problem. When you initially save a file to the share it would complain about having insufficient permissions, though if you were to save it again straight away it would work. The problem has been tracked down to how the SSHFS is mounted from within x2gomountdirs. The original command was: sshfs -o ServerAliveInterval=300,Cipher=blowfish,IdentityFile=$key,UserKnownHostsFile=$key.ident $user\@$host:\"@dirs[$i]\" \"$mntpath\" -p $port 2>>~/mounts.log for which I have changed it too: sshfs -o uid=$uid -o gid=$gid -o ServerAliveInterval=300,Cipher=blowfish,IdentityFile=$key,UserKnownHostsFile=$key.ident $user\@$host:\"@dirs[$i]\" \"$mntpath\" -p $port 2>>~/mounts.log with those two new variables being set via: my (undef,undef,$uid,$gid) = getpwuid($<); and the resulting mount have the ownership of the users primary id and group. Is there any reason why this approach was not used ? or it worked quite happily as the mount is 777 anyway ? -- Thanks, Phil

X2go client window in rootless mode crashes when mouse is moved over title bar

Hi there, this issue has probably been already addressed: During development of PyHoca-GUI I encounter some weird behaviour on mouse moves that cross the title bar of a rootless session window (e.g. xterm via X2go, but also any other app). I think that this problem only occurs with the initial rootless window (e.g. xterm). Any subsequently started application window has not shown this behaviour so far. Yesterday then, I found an article on the NoMachine site that might well relate to the problem: http://www.nomachine.com/ar/view.php?ar_id=AR06H00567 Question at Heinz+Alex: is this referred to functionality part of the x2goagent code? Is it possible to disable it? I could at the x2goagent sources, but my C++ capabilities are to weak to dig through that...
