Last friday we've been experimenting with creating thin clients using the live-build infrastructure. This is the infrastrucutre that is used by both debian live and from oneiric onwards, the ubuntu live cds. This worked included backporting relevant packages from oneiric to natty and fixing some annoying bugs for getting actual working packages. Mainly as a self reminder for me, here some test instructions for *natty* systems. Feedback (as always) welcome: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:siretart sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade sudo apt-get install live-build x2go-rootfs mkdir /tmp/build cd /tmp/build cp -rv /usr/share/x2go-livefs/auto . sudo lb clean lb config sudo lb build after this, you should end up with a lubuntu/natty based live cd 'binary-hybrid.iso' that has an lxdm configured to autologin the user 'user'. Moreover, x2goclient and rdesktop should be available in the system. This binary-hybrid.iso is for me less than 500MiB in size and AFAIUI (but I didn't test myself) should also worke from an usb stick (dd if=binary-hybrid of=/dev/sdX). hints: /tmp/build is best done on a tmpfs. fullscreen toggle not working in 3.0.1.18

Hello, all. I've been doing more testing with X2Go on Windows clients and it does seem to be a more difficult environment for X2Go users. I'll cover the issues in a couple of emails. In installed vcxsrv and enabled full screen mode, i.e., I do not start X when x2goclient starts so that it can be told to run with fullscreen. Full screen mode works however there is no way to leave it. There is no magic pixel and neither Alt-Ctl-M nor Alt-Ctl-F work - John

libxcomp3 vs nxcomp

Hi Reinhard, X2go formerly used binary packages of names nxcomp, nxcompshad and nxcompext. These are now called libxcomp3, libxcompshad3, libxcompext3. I have added conflicts stanzas to the new packages, but on install they do not enforce the uninstallation of the nxcomp* binary packages. What is needed to force uninstallation of the old nx packages formerly shipped with X2go? x2goclient 3.0.99.0 in prep

hi all, esp. Heinz and Alex, I have patched in Alex's latest work on x2goclient today and bumped the version number up to 3.0.99.0. This has been agreed upon with Heinz recently on the phone. A x2goclient 3.0.99.0 release candidate is already installed via our nightly builds, so please try it out from there (Ubuntu/Debian). x2goserver scripts in /usr/bin vs. /usr/lib/x2go

hi all, I have manually tab'ified all x2goserver scripts, so that we now have a more consistent code indentation in all those scripts. Apart from that I have also re-arranged files (/usr/bin vs. /usr/lib/x2go). http://wiki.x2go.org/roadmap#somewhen_work_in_progress However, all scripts are still installed to /usr/bin (debhelper) as it actually needs quite some more work to introduce /usr/lib/x2go as the location for those scripts that are needed directly by x2go client implementations. As the identation re-work has been a manual re-editing of all files, it possibly has been prone to errors. Thus, the next heuler package of x2goserver might be a little wobbly. Currently, the Makefile in X2go Git (x2goserver.git) is also broken. I will fix this, once the separation of /usr/bin and /usr/lib/x2go is complete. Multiple sessions fail in 3.0.1.18

Hello, all. In x2goclient 3.0.1-4, one was able to run multiple concurrent sessions even though it was not officially supported and would generate some warnings on the first session when the second was opened. However, it did work. In fact, this very functionality is very important to our first potential large client who wants to create separate environments for each client engagement and has many employees who simultaneously work on multiple clients. This now completely breaks in 3.0.1.18. The first session loses connectivity when the second session is established. Is there any possibility of restoring the previous functionality and even making it officially supported? I use it every day - one desktop into a compilation system on one site and another session to my regular work desktop in the data center. Thanks - John
