Problem Using Cloned Accounts

Hi All: We're trying to see if we can get x2go to work on cloned accounts or ones we create via bash on an Ubuntu server. FYI - we can start x2go sessions successfully if we create a new user "the normal way" (i.e., by hand using the GUI), create the SSH keys and move them between client (windows) and server. When we try, however, to create a new user account on the server "programmatically" (either brand new or cloned), we consistently get an error which happens regardless of the technique we use. As best we can tell, the cloned or programmatically created accounts function fine and as we'd expect except when we try to connect via x2go. For example, as root we create an account with "useradd - d /home/<newusername> -m --skel /etc/skel <newusername> (we've also tried to use the same command but clone an account that works with x2go, and have tried a range of other bash "create/clone" code). The connection is made, we see the black screen with "X2GO" and then the screen goes black and stays that way. Is this the same problem we've seen on some of the "black screen" posts? When we quit, we get an error message: Connection failed head: cannot open /home/<username>/.x2go/C-XXXXXXXXXXX_stDGNOME-dp32/cmdoutput' for reading: No such file or directory sed: -e expression #1, char 4: unterminated 's' command cat: >From reading the error message, it looks like somehow a "cmdoutput" file or folder is missing which we don't fine on the working account, so maybe it's written out on the fly. Is this a permissions issue? We think we are doing everything "identically" with the exception of how we are creating the account (e.g., how we create the ssh keys, copy the id_dsa.pub in authorized keys, add the new user to sshd_config, restart ssh). We've tried comparing the permissions in the two accounts, but are not sure if that is even the issue. We've checked in our user settings via the GUI and none of the users we've added --either programmatically or through the GUI--are checked in the x2go group though all are listed there and it doesn't seem to matter if we check them. When we create a new user/account "programmatically", would this cause problems with the x2go set up for that account? Any help appreciated! Ted

The windows version of x2goclient will probably be available tomorrow, as well. Today Oleksandr Shneyder has found a conceptual bug in the X2Go session hand shake that now is already fixed in the latest development code. To denote this change in session handshake protocol, minor version numbers will be raised for the next releases of those projects: - x2goserver, next release will be 3.1.0.0 - x2goclient, next release will be 3.99.1.0 Older clients will be fully compatible with newer servers (and vice versa). The fix addresses a session resume failure that occurred every once in a while (quite rare, but annoying). nx-libs breaks with libpng 1.5.x

Archlinux just upgraded libpng 1.4.x to 1.5.8, and it appears to have broken nx-libs. Instead of direct struct-access, applications should be using the various png_get_xxx() and png_set_xxx() accessor functions, which have existed for almost as long as libpng itself. (Apps that compiled against libpng 1.4 without warnings about deprecated features should happily compile against 1.5, too.)" I don't see any warnings from my previous build logs with libpng 1.4.8, but since the compiler was given the option "-Wno-deprecated" I'm not sure that the warnings would have shown up anyway. And it does appear that the Pgn.cpp functions DecompressPngXY() are trying to access the png_info struct, which is now private in libpng 1.5.8. What do you think is the best way to fix this issue? Would an upstream bug report to the NX folks be likely to accomplish anything? I'm not sure how big a job it will be to patch all of the code in nx-libs that attempts to access png_info or png_struct.

Ok, finally I did make it. x2goclient and -server are running on Mageia and I will import the packages into the official repos on Monday (aka as soon as I am back from FOSDEM). I'm still having a problem on x2goagent (more on Monday), but using a workarround and nxagent is working fine. Oliver

Using x2go with on Ubuntu Server with Encrypted Home Folders

Hi All: We are trying to use x2go connected to a Ubuntu server "desktop user" account where we have encrypted the Home folder for that user. We can connect just fine, though we go through a couple of error screens we get to one where we can enter a password. We enter the user password and get in just fine. Q: is there a way to get directly to that log in screen and/or store the password locally so we can use the icon on the desktop feature? - There is an option/checkbox to "Try auto login (ssh-agent or default ssh key)" but we think that's not the answer. - Given that we can log in, we assume this isn't about using ssh keys with passwords, that the password in question is the user account/login one that is related to the encrypted Home folder. We searched through the user and dev archives, and apologize if this is already answered. Thanks!
