Problem with X2Go and VMWare Tools

Hi. I've been troubleshooting a weird problem with X2Go for a while, when connecting to Gnome sessions in virtual machines the top and bottom panels are displayed but the desktop/background never shows up and the mouse pointer never stops spinning. It's like the Gnome session startup reaches 99% and then just waits forever for something. It turns out it's related to VMWare Tools. I use VMWare Hypervisor (ESXi) 5, I can't say if the problem started when I upgraded from ESXi 4 to 5, but it's fairly recent. I discovered that there are two instances of vmtoolsd running, the process list looks something like this when the X2Go session reaches "wait forever" state: root@labblinux:~# ps auxw | grep vmware dali 12906 1.4 1.4 174604 14588 ? S 18:47 0:00 /usr/lib/vmware-tools/sbin64/vmtoolsd -n vmusr root 13041 0.0 0.0 7556 860 pts/0 S+ 18:48 0:00 grep vmware Simultaneously the X2Go/Gnome session startup successfully finishes. Starting a Gnome session locally on the virtual machine console successfully finishes. I've tried using xrdp instead of X2Go and had no problems starting sessions, both using X11rdp and X11vnc on the server side. There's only one vmtoolsd running unless it's a X2Go session. I've unsuccessfully tried to figure out what the root cause is. It seems related to X2Go login/startup, somehow vmtoolsd starts twice and there's a conflict blocking Gnome startup. I did however find a workaround; uninstall VMWare Tools and install the open-vm-tools package from the Debian repository (contrib has to be added). No problems with X2Go so far and VMWare seems happy with the open source tools (Shutdown/Restart Guest is available in vSphere Client). I posted this to both x2go-user and x2go-dev for informational purposes. Maybe a wiki page would be the best place for this info? The wiki is however in a sad state and needs some serious cleanup. I personally don't think the template used is aesthetically pleasing and would prefer the default template or Arctic template which I've used extensively in all my DokuWiki installs. Cheers, Daniel

X2Go bindings for Xfce and others

Hello, I have modified the existing LXDE bindings for X2Go so that it works with Xfce. I did some further modifications: x command to open folder is "xdg-open" x added generic-icon name to MIME type ("folder-remote") As far as I understand the X2Go scripts, they check for GNOME/KDE/LXDE and add the corresponding letters to sshfs-disk-$DE MIME type. If none of the listed DEs is detected, the MIME type remains simply sshfs-disk. Since xdg-open and generic-icon name is general enough, it should work with other DE than Xfce, nonetheless, it has not been tested yet. I also updated the debian/ files but since I am on Arch Linux, I could not test the packaging process. P.S. I am aware about the plans for a unified approach for all DEs, which should make the gnome/kde/lxdebindings obsolete. So this is just a temporary solution. Feature Request: update ssh public key fingerprint from within x2goclient

Hi list, after swapping a server and trying to connect to it with X2Go, x2goclient greets me with --------------------------- Authentification failed --------------------------- Host key for server changed. It is now: xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx For security reasons, connection will be stopped --------------------------- OK --------------------------- In the same situation, the NX client would ask if the key should be updated. I can see that offering such a direct option is a good idea from a usability viewpoint, but a bad one from a security viewpoint, as users tend to click yes/allow on every popup they see. The current approach of x2goclient is the total opposite. A moderately experienced Linux user might figure out that ssh-keygen -R <hostip> will help, but to a Windows user, this will be an unsolvable mystery. I would like to suggest adding an option to remove/update the key from within the X2Go-Client. However, to avoid "user click-through", it should be somewhere in the menu, and the popup message should be amended with a note pointing to that menu. -Stefan

ATTN: Alex - Questions regarding x2goclient.exe --portable and session specification

Hi Alex, I noticed that x2goclient.exe can be called with --portable to make it use a session file rather than Windows registry entries. Is it possible to specify the location of the session file? Is there a way to export/import sessions from the registry to a sessions file and back? Is there any kind of documentation as to which command line options are available *specifically with the Windows x2go client*? By the way, the message that is shown after "x2goclient.exe --help" is too large to fit on my screen. It doesn't have scroll bars, and there's no way to resize that window, either. I have to use Ctrl-A, Ctrl-C to copy the message to the clipboard, then hit space to "click" the OK button that is outside of my screen, then paste the clipboard content into a text editor if I want to read all of it... Also, is it possible to connect without a session file/registry entry, by specifying all required parameters on the command line? if so, what are the minimum required parameters for that? Whenever I try to pass parameters, x2goclient.exe simply returns me to the command line. :-( The only parameters that seem to cause a response are "--help", "--maximize" and "--hide"... -Stefan

x2goagent listening on public interface - how to make it listen on 127.0.0.1 only?

Hi, unfortunately on x2go-users nobody was able to answer this question, maybe here is anybody who knows how to fix this: I am testing x2go - looks like a very good alternative to other solutions! However, I see that (only) when I am logged in via x2goclient I have an x2goagent process listening on the server on all network interfaces on port 6050 - I would feel better if this software did only listen on 127.0.0.1, if this is technically possible. I did not found any hint on a "listen 127.0.0.1" configuration item and where to put it, if existing - how can I make x2goagent NOT listen on a public network interface? Packaging nx-libs (aka x2goagent) for your distro

Hi Oliver, Milan, Please build x2goagent from nx-libs.git. Tarballs are available here: http://code.x2go.org/releases/source/nx-libs the symlink... -------------- nx-libs aims at being a replacement for nxagent (as being used with FreeNX, for example) whilst also providing our x2goagent. x2goagent is nothing more than a branded nxagent. Originally, Alex forked NX libs and nxagent for achieving the branding. However, we recently patched some code into original NX code that makes it now possible for nxagent to recognize under what name the agent is launched. If that name is x2goagent the X2Go branding is turned on, otherwise no branding. the wrapper script... --------------------- nx-libs ships with its own X11 library files (libnx-x11, we call the package for Debian). With your distro's X libraries nxagent/x2goagent will probably fail to run or it will at least be really unstable. You have to install NX libs to some non-default library path (e.g. /usr/lib/nx) and make sure that nxagent/x2goagent finds only those (by tweaking LD_LIBRARY_PATH) and _not_ the distro's X11 libs.
