translating X2Go

Hi all, over the weekend Daniel Lindgren and Terje Andersen have added Swedish and Norwegian translations to X2Go Client and Pyhoca-GUI. New major distribution builds available for X2go

Hi all, as announced previously I have good news: We have a very large set of packages for the following distributions: - openSUSE 12.1 & Factory (12.2) - Fedora 15 - Fedora 16 And now we can say x2go is enterprise-ready: - SLES 11 - RHEL 5 - RHEL 6 At this point I would like to thank Jan Engelhardt - Without him this wouldn't had been possible in such a short period of time. All distributions have been built to only depend on what is included within the base distro packages. We are _not_ amused by the behaviour like Red Hat works with extended packages they don't want to give support for (like by calling EPEL "a well-maintained" repository [1]). We also must say, that the "modern" versions have been a lot "easier" than the rest, just because of the dependency stuff. All packages have been verified through all kind of (and sometimes also super weird stict) brpchecks and rpmlint checks, so the package format should be fine with about any distro which takes care of clean buildroot-based package building. There has been a lot of effort to generalize the packages to have just one single SPEC-file for on package on all distros. This resulted in various patches we kindly request to get upstream, as we really think these patches are a great enhancement. As a result of what we had as a code base and the build requirements we were not able to provide x2goplasmabindings for the older (enterprise) distributions, for example. Now about what's coming next: - Please test, test, test. Just send us any feedback back to this list, as we really want x2go to work on more than debian/ubuntu. - For the moment we concentrated on the SQLite based stuff, although PostgreSQL should also work - We hope to see some tarballs regarding the plugins which have been created some time ago (http://plugin.x2go.org is offline :() to get them packaged as well. - Looking to get all our patches upstream with X2Go main development (Alex, Heinz-Markus) - Get all packages to the (broke) upstream OBS project X11:RemoteDesktop:x2go Feel free to comment, suggest, whatever - Thanks! [PATCH] xauth file location mismatch in x2gostartagent

Hello, the /usr/bin/x2gostartagent script does not sufficiently specify the location of $XAUTHORITY file for the xauth command, while the command line for starting x2goagent refers to a specific location $HOME/.Xauthority. Usually, this works, because if nothing is specified on the command line for xauth and the $XAUTHORITY variable is not defined, it falls back to $HOME/.Xauthority. Nonetheless, recent GDM versions set XAUTHORITY to /var/run/gdm/auth-for-$USER-blabla/database. As a result, when opening a shadow session as another user, /usr/bin/x2gostartagent adds the cookie to $XAUTHORITY (/var/run/gdm...) and then starts x2goagent -auth $HOME/.Xauthority, which fails obviously. The attached patch removes the -f $HOME/.Xauthority parameter from the x2goagent command line to resolve the problem. It also removes a redundant '-S' parameter (there is already $SESSION_TYPE there). Can users of other distributions or display managers test if it does not break something else? Several Typos in X2Go-Client, Windows, German

Just noticed this in the systray icon's pull-down menu: "Wiederhestellen" should be "Wiederhe_r_stellen". Also, in Sitzungsvoreinstellungen/Neue Sitzung/Sitzung/Server: "SSH Port" should be "SSH-Port" "RSA/DSA Schlüssel verwenden" should be "RSA-/DSA-Schlüssel verwenden" In Sitzungsvoreinstellungen/Neue Sitzung/Einstellungen: "Benutze Port Weiterleitung"[...] should be "Benutze Port-Weiterleitung". "DPI Auflösung festlegen" should be "DPI-Auflösung festlegen" or "Auflösung festlegen (in DPI)" And in Sitzungsvoreinstellungen/Neue Sitzung/freigegebene Ordner: "Benutze SSH Port Weiterleitung"[...] should be "Benutze SSH-Port-Weiterleitung". "Desktopverknüpfung erzeugen" shows a message containing the string "ohne das x2goclient". I believe this contains two errors, for one, "das" should be "dass", and the commonly accepted name for the client isn't written in all lowercase, IIRC. You will probably want to call it "X2Goclient", "X2GoClient" or "X2Go-Client". This seems to be an inconsistency in the entire client, though (the title bar says "X2Go client", the first item in the "Help" menu says "X2GO Client", clicking on it shows a message containing "the string X2Go Client"). The same message notes that you can use a GPG key or a GPG smartcard to authenticate when using "hidden mode". It does not mention the SSH public key/ssh-agent methods, even though they work just as well. Or maybe you meant that while calling it a GPG key in the message (I've never used GPG-based authentication, so I'm not sure if it requires a smartcard or not)? Anyways - it should be written as "GPG-Smartcard" and "GPG-Schlüssel" or "SSH-Schlüssel" (depending on which one you meant). Another typo in the same message: "Wollen SIe" should be "Wollen Sie". The same SIe-Sie issue is in the Help/About X2GO Client dialog. Problem with X2Go and VMWare Tools

Hi. I've been troubleshooting a weird problem with X2Go for a while, when connecting to Gnome sessions in virtual machines the top and bottom panels are displayed but the desktop/background never shows up and the mouse pointer never stops spinning. It's like the Gnome session startup reaches 99% and then just waits forever for something. It turns out it's related to VMWare Tools. I use VMWare Hypervisor (ESXi) 5, I can't say if the problem started when I upgraded from ESXi 4 to 5, but it's fairly recent. I discovered that there are two instances of vmtoolsd running, the process list looks something like this when the X2Go session reaches "wait forever" state: root@labblinux:~# ps auxw | grep vmware dali 12906 1.4 1.4 174604 14588 ? Starting a Gnome session locally on the virtual machine console successfully finishes. I've tried using xrdp instead of X2Go and had no problems starting sessions, both using X11rdp and X11vnc on the server side. There's only one vmtoolsd running unless it's a X2Go session. I've unsuccessfully tried to figure out what the root cause is. It seems related to X2Go login/startup, somehow vmtoolsd starts twice and there's a conflict blocking Gnome startup. I did however find a workaround; uninstall VMWare Tools and install the open-vm-tools package from the Debian repository (contrib has to be added). No problems with X2Go so far and VMWare seems happy with the open source tools (Shutdown/Restart Guest is available in vSphere Client). I posted this to both x2go-user and x2go-dev for informational purposes. Maybe a wiki page would be the best place for this info? The wiki is however in a sad state and needs some serious cleanup. I personally don't think the template used is aesthetically pleasing and would prefer the default template or Arctic template which I've used extensively in all my DokuWiki installs. Cheers, Daniel

X2Go bindings for Xfce and others

Hello, I have modified the existing LXDE bindings for X2Go so that it works with Xfce. I did some further modifications: x command to open folder is "xdg-open" x added generic-icon name to MIME type ("folder-remote") As far as I understand the X2Go scripts, they check for GNOME/KDE/LXDE and add the corresponding letters to sshfs-disk-$DE MIME type. If none of the listed DEs is detected, the MIME type remains simply sshfs-disk. Since xdg-open and generic-icon name is general enough, it should work with other DE than Xfce, nonetheless, it has not been tested yet. I also updated the debian/ files but since I am on Arch Linux, I could not test the packaging process. P.S. I am aware about the plans for a unified approach for all DEs, which should make the gnome/kde/lxdebindings obsolete. So this is just a temporary solution. Feature Request: update ssh public key fingerprint from within x2goclient

Hi list, after swapping a server and trying to connect to it with X2Go, x2goclient greets me with --------------------------- Authentification failed --------------------------- Host key for server changed. It is now: xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx For security reasons, connection will be stopped --------------------------- OK --------------------------- In the same situation, the NX client would ask if the key should be updated. I can see that offering such a direct option is a good idea from a usability viewpoint, but a bad one from a security viewpoint, as users tend to click yes/allow on every popup they see. The current approach of x2goclient is the total opposite. A moderately experienced Linux user might figure out that ssh-keygen -R <hostip> will help, but to a Windows user, this will be an unsolvable mystery. I would like to suggest adding an option to remove/update the key from within the X2Go-Client. However, to avoid "user click-through", it should be somewhere in the menu, and the popup message should be amended with a note pointing to that menu. -Stefan
