Question regarding command line options / portable mode

Hi List, since I can't find anything in the Wiki nor in the man pages of the linux x2goclient: Is there a place where I can find documentation regarding the command line options of x2goclient (especially the Microsoft Windows version)? I noticed there's an option --portable, which seems to store the session configuration in a "sessions" text file, just like the linux version does by default (the MS Windows default is to store it in the registry). Is there any way to influence where this sessions file is stored, or a way to import a sessions file into the registry? Will x2goclient crash if this file is read-only? (I'm thinking of storing it on a network share that is read-only) That would make a mass roll-out so much easier. Also, does the Windows x2goclient *installer* offer any options that allow an automated roll-out, something like /default (install to default locations with all the default options) and /quiet (do not present any pop-ups, just install)? Hi all, recently there has been some noise about X2Go re-working its NX code base. Indeed some quite interesting things have been going on recently around NX and X2Go. During the last weeks we have completely reworked the way we build NX libraries. This has fixed a lot of instability problems people had recently (summer/autumn 2011) already. During this last week we set up the X2Go subproject ,,NX (redistributed)'' (aka nx-libs.git on http://git.x2go.org) The X2Go project's developers (esp. Mike and Reinhard, supported by Alex and Heinz) have decided to re-distribute NX sources as one big tarball that builds with GNU make and contains patches not accepted by NoMachine themselves. The building of the tarball with GNU make already works fine, the ,,make install'' still needs more work. John Williams has agreed to contribute on that (thanks for that!!!). @John: please note that I have uploaded a new tarball containing the functionality described below ;-): http://code.x2go.org/releases/source/nx-libs/nx-libs_3.5.0.5-full.tar.gz During the last days now, we have achieved something that so far has hardly been imaginable (at least to me). We have incorporated three patches into nx-libs.git that allows to turn NX's nxagent into x2goagent during runtime: 01: http://code.x2go.org/gitweb?p=nx-libs.git;a=blob;f=debian/patches/200_nxage… 02: http://code.x2go.org/gitweb?p=nx-libs.git;a=blob;f=debian/patches/201_nxage… 03: http://code.x2go.org/gitweb?p=nx-libs.git;a=blob;f=debian/patches/999_nxage… X2Go's agent is now part of NX and is maintained in nx-libs.git on http://git.x2go.org. The x2goagent package from now on depends on nxagent (as they are one). The x2goagent package provides a symbolic link to nxagent, a separate x2goagent man page and a wrapper script in /usr/bin, nothing else. If nxagent is executed unter the name of x2goagent, the X2GO branding gets activated within nxagent. Also: ,,NX (redistributed)'' is fully FreeNX compliant. Install ,,NX (redistributed)'' from the X2Go package archives and add FreeNX (Ubuntu Launchpad) on top of that. FreeNX and X2Go can now again be installed parallely on the same system. Interesting for migrations or client diversity. This step also allows us to finally abandon the following source projects completely now: nxcomp.git nxcompext.git nxcompshad.git nxproxy.git x2goagent.git See also at the bottom of this page: http://code.x2go.org/gitweb As this is esp. a call-out for testing the new packages(!!!!) here are some short infos on upgrading your X2Go test servers. Hi! the postinstallation script for the x2goserver (ubuntu) has the following problem: it checks if /var/lib/x2go/x2go_sessions exists, and if not, calls x2godbadmin --createdb. This is not good, because it sometimes breaks upgrades of the package when using a remote postgresql: The postgresdb is configured and accessible but there is no /var/lib/x2go/x2go_sessions because it isn't needed. Then when you upgrade, it calls x2godbadmin --createdb and overwrites the remote postgres-sql-db.. I think it should test if postgres is used, and if so, should never do anything on its own with the db. Users who use the postgres-db anyhow know what they are doing and could do some steps more. I had been using libjpeg-turbo with x2go for well over a year now. Initially I just replaced libjpeg with it by installing manually then creating a softlink but as far as I know libjpeg-turbo replaced libjpeg in Ubuntu a couple releases ago and *I believe is now the default. <goog_1060864767>* https://blueprints.launchpad.net/linaro-ubuntu/+spec/o-libjpeg-turbo-integr… At least for Ubuntu 11.10 there you can see the launchpad entry for it here: http://packages.ubuntu.com/en/source/oneiric/libjpeg-turbo You might check with Debian to see if libjpeg-turbo hasn't already replaced libjpeg there as well. Libjpeg-turbo is pending for Debian sid inclusion: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=612341 As we do not have plans to ship libjpeg-turbo within the X2Go repository currently, I guess we will have to wait for distro inclusion in Debian/Ubuntu. With other distros that already have libjpeg8 (optionally) replaced by libjpeg-turbo, it should be possible to compile NX (redistributed) against the faster libary. There also is another NX related project on git.ethersoft.ru that provides NX with libjpeg-turbo. However, that repos only builds NX for FreeNX. OpenNX/neatx and X2go

Hi, I have try to compare on one server UBUNTU which I have installed neatx and x2go server. When I have use OpenNX/Linux with neatx server it is look faster working that x2goclient/Linux with x2goserver. Anybody try to compare neatx with x2goserver ? In both I have use modem link and 16m-jpeg-9 and LXDE. I would like switch to x2goserver because is developed. neatx is use SSL encryption all traffic and I can not switch off in neatx but I thnik if I will switch off SSL encryption in neatx on my modem link it will be faster but without this netax with opennx client working faster than x2go. I do not know reason x2go is slower than neatx. I have disabled sound/file share Regards Waldek

KDE applications causing session crash with latest builds

Hi list, after upgrading to the latest Debian packages, I can no longer run KDE applications in rootless mode - neither with NX nor with X2Go. Steps to reproduce: 1. Run Terminal as single application (not in a full-blown desktop - everything works fine there) 2. Type: kdialog --yesno "Test" 3. Now it seems you've "crossported" the bug to X2Go. :-( I have been in contact with Mike Gabriel regarding this issue, he suggests debugging the issue by stepping through the patches one by one. However, he won't get around to doing that in the next two weeks, and the last time I touched C code was 10 years ago and not much more than "hello world" stuff, so it's unlikely that I'll be able to find the reason myself. Anyone willing and able to assist? To Whom It May Concern: We are trying to evaluate the x2go plugin (hope to evaluate the thin client option soon too), and are having some trouble. Can anyone help? Questions - is the plugin development/support still active? - we assume you need to set up the server as a web server with the code described on the x2go site, and install the plugin on the client side: is that true? - we assume the primary code from the http://www.x2go.org/wiki:components:x2goplugin#a_complete_website_example goes in the home page/index.html file: is that right? - when we surf to the site, we get... x2goplugin This website will offer you a plugin named "x2goplugin". With the installed plugin you'll be able to start or recover a session running on a x2goserver. The server needs to be preconfigured. To get more information about what x2go is, please visit http://www.x2go.org. ...this is part of the example code we used shown below, but that's as far as we go and link just takes us back to the main site. We don't see a way to have the site install the plugin. - when we try to download the plugin in the client (again, we assume the plugin is necessary on the client browser) from http://plugin.x2go.org we get a missing page...same with the link on plugin example page link .... would guess this is just about the state of the web site change... ...but is there somewhere where we can download the plugin? Could someone email it if the site will be under construction for a while? - lastly, when the documentation says you can leave the user name blank, does that mean "user=" like we have it shown below?
