Stupid User Tricks

I've installed x2go on an mxlinux system. It works as root, but as an ordinary user it starts to start then disconnects. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot? timeout connecting to new server

CentOS 7.4 Hi, I've installed x2go using yum on a new server (yum --enablerepo="epel" install x2goserver, and yum --enablerepo="epel" install x2goserver-xsession) and rebooted it. I also installed MATE and Xfce packages. However when I try to connect with x2go client (4.1.1.1 on windows 10), I get a timeout. Connecting to our old x2go server works. I've disabled the firewall for testing but it still times out. I can successfully ssh using x-forwarding to the new x2go server. /var/log/messages doesn't show anything useful. Any thoughts about what might be happening? Thanks -M

Mouse clicks delayed

I'm running Thunderbird on a remote server. Whenever I click on a dropdown menu, it takes about 30 seconds for the application to respond. I can't tell if the delay is in sending the mouse event or in displaying the menu. This does not happen when clicking on buttons (like Print or Reply), but only when there is a dropdown, like ReplyAll or the settings dropdown, or in the menus in a composition window. I don't notice this delay with other applications. There is no delay when I run Thunderbird remotely using "ssh -X". X2Go server, nxagent causes segfault

Hello I'm using X2Go server in several computers, all running Ubuntu. Just today, one of my computers (headless Linux box) just froze and I had to give it a power cycle reset. Best client/server pairings for RHEL 6 server and linux/windows clients?

Guys, I'm using x2go server on a CentOS 6.9 box, kept quite upto date, and I have no problems connecting to it from both the desktop of that system, and from home when I'm connecting in from a Linux desktop. My versions are: Server (Linux CentOS 6.9): x2goclient-4.0.1.4-1.el6.x86_64 x2goserver-4.0.1.20-1.el6.x86_64 x2golxdebindings-debuginfo-1.0.2.4-1.1.x86_64 x2goserver-xsession-4.0.1.20-1.el6.x86_64 python-x2go-0.5.0.3-1.el6.noarch x2goagent-3.5.0.32-3.1.x86_64 Linux Client (Linux Mint 18.3): ii nxproxy 2:3.5.0.33-0x2go1+git20180204.776+8.main.1 amd64 NX proxy ii x2go-keyring 2012.07.23~jessie~main~17~build1 all GnuPG keys of all X2Go developers and the X2Go archive ii x2goclient 4.1.1.1-0x2go1+git20180302.1732+8.main.1 amd64 X2Go Client application (Qt4) But when I try to use the latest client stuff from my Windows 7 system, I just get a connection which shows up for a second, then disconnects and returns me to the connection screen. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. But I'm loathe to upgrade my server just in case I break a working setup. In the meantime I've built a new CentOS-7.4 system, which is using the same packages as my CentOS 6.9 server, but for some reason I just can't reliably connect there either. Been following the mailing list for a while, since this is really my best option to be able to have my linux sessions travel around with me. But debugging has been a chore, since there are so many files and places which need to be looked into. And it's not clear WHY connections fail. And actually, does RHEL/CentOS 7 with a Gnome desktop even work? Is there an issue with OpenGL like there is with VNC desktops? Thanks, John

x2go problems - Ubuntu 16.04 - before and after new version upgrade

Greetings, I sent this yesterday, but was not a member of the list, so wasn't sure if it would end up being approved and posted or not. Here's the content of that message and I apologize if this is a duplicate: We use x2go extensively for some access to some Ubuntu based LTSP servers. Suddenly over the last two days, we get the following in the client: "The remote proxy closed the connection while negotiating the session. This may be due to the wrong authentication credentials passed to the server." And on the server we are trying to connect to, we see this in the logs: /usr/bin/x2goresume-session: client [ip.address.of.client] has successfully resumed session with ID kscadmin-51-1520534328_stDMATE_dp24 /usr/bin/x2gosetkeyboard: /home/ksca0dmin/.x2go/C-kscadmin-51-1520534328_stDMATE_dp24/keyboard did not appear within 30s after agent startup We are never able to connect. This happens even on all servers that we connect to and includes older server versions: x2goagent: 3.5.0.33 x2goserver: 4.0.1.22 x2goserver-extensions: 4.0.1.22 x2goserver-xsession: 4.0.1.22 As well as newer ones: x2goserver: 4.1.0.0 x2goserver-common: 4.1.0.0 x2goserver-extensions: 4.1.0.0 x2goserver-fmbindings: 4.1.0.0 x2goserver-printing: 4.1.0.0 x2goserver-x2goagent: 3.5.99.14 x2goserver-xsession: 4.1.0.0 Unfortunately, the clients are now updated as well trying to fix this issue, but they were failing on the older client version as well: X2Go Client v. 4.1.1.1 (Qt - 4.8.7) Any help would be appreciated. open another customizing Port Forward thought the SSH Connection to the x2go Server

Hi, Is it possible to open an induvial port forward from the client machine to the x2go server? I need this for a windows software to connect to the Linux server. My first approach wars to use on the client a ssh_config, but the client creates the connection directly from the x2go client application with some ssh libs. So ok, the next approach wars to use the ssh_config on the Linux site, because for the printer and the file connection, the server open a ssh connection to a ssh-Daemon on the Client site. But the ssh connection use the option "ClearAllForwardings", so the forwards on a config-file are not working. So someone have an idea for this topic? Greetings

Some questions about X2go

Hi all, on my working PC there is running Ubuntu 16.04 with MATE Desktop (isn't the same as Ubuntu MATE, right?) and a X2go Server with Desktop Sharing extension. On my home PC with Windows 10 I have installed the X2go Client and inside it configured a session connecting to the Ubuntu host according to https://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/doc:usage:desktop-sharing. The connection is successful, but there are some issues: 1. The Ubuntu host's desktop is spread over two 4/3 screens. But The Windows PC only has one screen with 1680x1050 Pixels. So the display from the Ubuntu host is highly horizontally compressed, so that the texts are nearly unreadable. OK, this behaviour is documented, but is there a way to get it more readable? 2. If I (to solve the above issue) switch to something other than full screen mode in the session settings, the session crashes, when started. I have to close and restart the X2go Client. And then with settings set back to full screen mode the session runs again. Is there a way to avoid the crash without full screen mode? 3. In full screen mode I cannot see any mouse cursor. So hitting any user elements inside or on the windows inside the display from the Ubuntu host is very difficult, since they are reduced to half the width. Is there a way to see a mouse cursor? Or is this due to the compressed display? 4. Since mouse using is so difficult, I tried to close the windows from the Ubuntu host by pressing <Alt><F4>. But then I get a question from X2go to close the session. Is there a way to propagate key combinitions like <Alt><F4> to the remote host? Sincerely tkansgar

Deprecation and removal of X2Go Plugin

Hi Since most browsers either stopped supporting NPAPI (or will be dropping support with the next ESR version) and Qt 5 does not feature a browser plugin architecture any longer, I will be ripping out code related to the X2Go Plugin in the development version of X2Go Client soonish. Expect the next version to not supply X2Go Plugin binaries. Mihai

Problems with X2go keyboard layout

Dear X2golist, we are using X2go to connect to our Ubuntu workstations from various clients. Since some days we had problems to get connected, now after updating client and server we can connect again. After connecting to the server we see the window with the desktop, and are able to start programs as usual. However, the keyboard seems to deliver random results, e.g. the keys 1,2,3,4,5,6 map to e,r,t,z,<enter> in a terminal on the remote-server. Here is our setup: Client is MAC OSX 10.11, running x2goclient 4.1.1.1 for MAC OS X 10.10 Server: Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS (Xenial Xerus) output from x2goversion on the server is cups-x2go: 3.0.1.3 x2godesktopsharing: 3.1.1.4 x2goserver: 4.1.0.0 x2goserver-common: 4.1.0.0 x2goserver-extensions: 4.1.0.0 x2goserver-fmbindings: 4.1.0.0 x2goserver-printing: 4.1.0.0 x2goserver-x2goagent: 3.5.99.15 x2goserver-xsession: 4.1.0.0 Any ideas?
