Status desktop sharing?

However, to my personal view, the LDAP implementation needs quite some work before the Baikal release and also needs proper documentation of the way LDAP data is used and interpreted... Hallo Liste, ich versuche gerade einen x2go-Server aufzusetzen und gehe dabei nach der Anleitung im Wiki vor. Über Foren habe ich einen Bugreport gefunden, daß selbstsignierte Zertifikate Probleme machen würden. Allerdings habe ich noch keinen Workaround gefunden, das betraf ofenbar auch nur eine ältere Ubuntu-Version. Mein nächster Schritt ist, einen LDAP-Install mit Hand zu probieren, erstmal ohne Zertifikate. Hat jemand von Euch sowas? Ich brauche die LDAP-Funktionalität und bin gerade ein bißchen ins Kalte Wasser geworfen. Vielen Dank, Mike Thomas

X2go client on debian ARM?

Hey there. I have recently invested in some HP T5325 thin clients, wishing to make them work with a linux terminal server. Since they canot PXE boot, and HP wont tell me what chipset they use, LTSP is out of the question. That laves me with either XDMCP, wich dosnt support local USB pens, or X2go, wich isnt packaged for arm. How much work would go into porting the client software to debian ARM? Since more and more thin clients are getting ARM processors, porting x2goclient to ARM might not be the worst idea in the universe

Question about the source

I downloaded a copy of the source by using this command: git clone git:// code.x2go.org/x2goserver.git I want to try to make a module on NodeJS, and I had assumed that I would get a bunch of source files written in C or C++, but what I got was a bunch of Perl scripts. Is that all the server is? Am I missing something? My goal is to make an NX server that can run over a simple TCP or HTTP server and I was going to write a client for display in the browser. From my research, X2Go is supposed to be the most fully featured, open source NX implementation out there. I downloaded the source from NoMachine.com for part of their server and it was as I expected, a bunch of C and C++ sources. With NodeJS, I have a couple of options: - Include a C++ module by exporting certain functions - Write the source in server-side JavaScript - Use the exec command to execute scripts on the command-line If the server really is that simple, then my project will be a lot less painful and will take me a lot less time than expected to make work with NodeJS. If the server really is this simple, how does it compare performance-wise with the open source version from NoMachine? I want to possibly have several NX servers piped through a single webserver where each NX server is running in it's own VM, so efficiency is what I'm after. I am primarily looking at just running this on Ubuntu, so this package looked like it was the right one (debian). Any help that any of you could offer would be much appreciated. I'm excited to start playing with this software!! Don't worry, anything I produce will be Open Source, regardless of whether I do a complete rewrite.

X2Go client printing issues if application queries printer parameters

Hello, all. We are working on a problem for one of our clients where print margins are not being set properly on a critical financial application, Timberline. To save retyping, I'll paste in most of the contents of our internal GLPI Help Desk (http://www.glpi-project.org/spip.php?lang=en) ticket: One of Maryann's critical functions is printing checks. If they print incorrectly, it is extra critical because of the difficulty of reprinting them. Maryann eventually figured out that she needed to override the margin settings of 0,0,0,0 to 0.25,0.25,0,0 to have them print correctly. However, these defaults were never saved and had to be re-entered for every check run. That's a problem and prone to human error. The call with Timberline was enlightening and may reveal a system design issue. Unlike reports, check runs do not have custom printer settings. They draw their margin settings from the physical print device. They can be overridden which is what Maryann has been doing but there are no settings to save; they always draw from the print device. As much as this is working against Maryann, it is probably good design. It means that the checks will adapt to whichever printer they are sent. The problem is when a check run is sent to the X2Go printer for printing to local printers. Now the problem is that two very well designed "features" interfere with each other and become a problem. Timberline is trying to adapt to whichever printer is chosen. However, the X2Go printer is also trying to adapt to whichever printer is chosen to give users the flexibility to print to whichever local printer happens to be attached. The problem is that, to do this, the X2Go print driver does not specify any margins (or it specifies them as 0,0,0,0) as it is physical printer independent. Now the Timberline check printer queries the X2Go printer to ask what its margins are (so Timberline can adapt to the printer) and the X2Go printer says, "I don't have any because I'm trying to adapt to whatever printer the user connects to me!" This is why the check runs work perfectly when sent to the network attached printers - they tell Timberline what their physical margins are. I can see two ways to solve this problem. Each with distinct advantages and disadvantages. The way I think is best is to leave the X2Go printer undefined. The user receives the PDf file and, when printing, after selecting the target printer should select "fit to printable area" in the PDF reader print dialog. This preserves the ability of the X2Go printer to adapt to any printer the user has, e.g., if Maryann decides she needs to print from home rather than from the office. The BIG downside is that is still an extra step and, if Maryann forgets to do it, a check run can be mangled and we have the problem of reprinting checks. [Note - this is a Windows client user and thus cannot print directly to the printer from the X2Go printer dialog] The other solution is to hack the PPD file for Maryann's X2Go printer and set fixed margins. I'm not 100% sure how to do that but we can figure out how. The big advantage is that no user intervention is needed for the check runs. However, the big disadvantage is that we no longer adapt to the target printer; the margins are fixed.

Manual Install of x2go on SLES11 running on system Z

Howdy all, So I would love to be able to use x2go on my sles11 boxes that are running on my mainframe, but I have found NO good info about how to install it, let alone configure it and get it to run. I have downloaded what appears to be some "source code", but within the .tar ball there is no install instructions, just a bunch of scripts. Then when I got and look online using google looking for help, again there is NO documentation describing how to install x2go manually, only from using a .deb. Well, I don't have nor will I ever use .deb for my enterprise environment, so how in the world do you install x2go using the "source" code that I downloaded from your website? Is there any documentation that say what these commands do? How does x2go connect and talk with the DB, the client? Is there a service I must run on the server in order to connect to it? What about the gnomebindings? Are those available to only .deb users? Can I install those without using .deb? Do I need them? Is there any documentation that does not include using .debs? What about man pages? Do they exist? All I want is some install instructions to follow, or at least some pointers in the correct direction... Linux is not new to me in any way, I just have no idea how x2go works and functions as a whole and I can't find anything that is useful to help answer these questions. I really wish there was some sort of documentation that describes how to do this simple procedure. I don't understand why a small file wasn't included in the "source" that tells me how to do this as there is with EVERY OTHER "source" that I have ever downloaded, or if it's not included with the source you can use the normal, ./configure, make, make install, and get it up and running. This is the first time I have ever had trouble installing something from supposed "source", so I am a little bit frustrated at the total lack of documentation and info that is available on actually installing the product if you can't, nor want to run a distro that supports/uses .debs. Ubuntu and Debian are not support under system z (which is what I am running), so therefore I can't use them even if I wanted to. RHEL6 and SLES11 are my only options if I want support, which my organization requires me to have if I am going to be running anything in a production environment, which is the plan. What I have done in the meantime is follow some "install" instructions that were included in the older version of x2goserver (3.0.1), but that doesn't seem right. I have even installed and configured postgresql (there were absolutely no instructions on using the x2goserver-one source, so I had to go with just x2goserver and install postgresql which is completely unnecessary but I had no other choice considering the lack of info available), but when I try to connect to my server using the x2goclient, I get "authentication denied continue using keyboard interactive" or something like that, and then x2goclient crashes and I am not logged into my server, and there are no message logs on the server, nor any error logs, and there is nothing on the windows computer to help me out either. So I have no idea what is or is not working correctly. I know ssh works, and x11 forwarding works because I have some scripts I created to connect and forward the x sessions, and they work just fine. I really want to be able to use x2go instead of my own scripts because of the sessions resume and cool things like that. But I do know that x and ssh work, I just can't connect using x2go. So at this point I am really disappointed in x2go as I have spent a good 4 hours now trying to just install this product, and I haven't even started to try to configure it. Honestly I will give it a little bit more time, after that I must move on to something else that actually has some documentation so I can figure this stuff out on my own since I don't have time to be wasting on just trying to install a product. I don't want to come across as an ass here, I am just frustrated with spinning my wheels on something that should be really straight forward. X2go looks like would be perfect for what I need, I just hope I can get it installed. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your time, Donald Harris

x2goclient as normal user fail

Hello, I was hoping to jump from freeNX to x2go remote desktop for my Arch and Ubuntu based machines. But I have some problems connecting to x2go service as normal user. For a test drive I have installed x2goserver-one on Arch based server, and x2goclient on my Arch notebook. The server is working fine as I can ssh to it without any problems. I can even connect to x2goserver when the client is run with root priviliges (sudo x2goclient). Unfortunately running x2goclient and trying to connect to server with my normal priviliges (of course with same session configuration as from root) fails: - main x2goclient window does show connecting status after giving login creditials, and all buttons are greyed out - the remote desktop window does not show up at all On both occasions I'm connectiong with same creditials. I'm not using any userdefined configuration files, so both root and my user share same ssh configuration. On console the only difference is that on root account there is line saying that nxproxy is starting, which is not showing on normal account. If any detailed information is needed, just let me know how to get it and I'm going to send it to You. I really hope that we can solve this strange problem together. _________ BR Zbyszek
