x2goclient (thinclient) crashing

Hello, I use the x2gothinclients and have the following problem: every so often (and more often since the latest update) when trying to resume a session, I get an error message "The remote proxy closed the connection while negotiating the session. This may be due to the wrong authentication credentials passed to the server". If I close the message box, I get a black screen, with the shutdown icon in the upper left corner. At that point, the x2goclient process has died. The only way to continue is to switch to a different screen (CTRL+ALT+F1) and restart x2gothinclient. I can try logging in several time and will get this problem several times in a row. Then after a while, it will work. Of course I am completely sure that the credentials were correct. Which logs should I be looking at to troubleshoot this server? I couldn't find any logs on the client machine (maybe I'm not looking in the right place). Jean

Hello x2go people :) i have a server running Ubuntu 11.10 with an x2goserver installation, version 3.0.99.10-0~434~oneiric1, and it is running well and stable. We had some strange problems, though. We contacted a school, who would help us test the server under daily use, and made some test users for them, called "test-*their name*". When they, and i, tried to log into those users, the client would freeze, no error message or anything. On the server, the x2goagent would run amok, soaking up CPU power. The problem seems to occur only on users with dashes in their names. Can anyone replicate this? it is quite strange -- Venlig Hilsen / Best Regards Christoffer Krakou Fleten.net APS

Terje lets you and I work on this together. Email me directly and we can figure out how best to collaborate on the initial definition of what needs to be done on the Wiki then we can present a draft to the x2go user community and obtain volunteers to work on specific sections. I wanted to make a suggestion to the x2go Community. Everyone knows how fast and how much x2go has been changing in regards to features, capabilities, etc. Like most projects Documentation is hard to keep up with but to keep growing the x2go Community as fast in the future as it has in the past year or so I'd like to suggest the date for a week of focused x2go Wiki updating/cleanup. For success - it would take the commitment of both the x2go Community & the Core-Devs and some planning. By that I mean try to come up with ways to impact the core-dev team the least but maximize their knowledge of x2go config, install, operation & troubleshooting so the Community people can do the actual editing of the Wiki. Problem with X2Go and VMWare Tools

Hi. I've been troubleshooting a weird problem with X2Go for a while, when connecting to Gnome sessions in virtual machines the top and bottom panels are displayed but the desktop/background never shows up and the mouse pointer never stops spinning. It's like the Gnome session startup reaches 99% and then just waits forever for something. It turns out it's related to VMWare Tools. I use VMWare Hypervisor (ESXi) 5, I can't say if the problem started when I upgraded from ESXi 4 to 5, but it's fairly recent. I discovered that there are two instances of vmtoolsd running, the process list looks something like this when the X2Go session reaches "wait forever" state: root@labblinux:~# ps auxw | grep vmware dali 12906 1.4 1.4 174604 14588 ? Starting a Gnome session locally on the virtual machine console successfully finishes. I've tried using xrdp instead of X2Go and had no problems starting sessions, both using X11rdp and X11vnc on the server side. There's only one vmtoolsd running unless it's a X2Go session. I've unsuccessfully tried to figure out what the root cause is. It seems related to X2Go login/startup, somehow vmtoolsd starts twice and there's a conflict blocking Gnome startup. I did however find a workaround; uninstall VMWare Tools and install the open-vm-tools package from the Debian repository (contrib has to be added). No problems with X2Go so far and VMWare seems happy with the open source tools (Shutdown/Restart Guest is available in vSphere Client). I posted this to both x2go-user and x2go-dev for informational purposes. Maybe a wiki page would be the best place for this info? The wiki is however in a sad state and needs some serious cleanup. I personally don't think the template used is aesthetically pleasing and would prefer the default template or Arctic template which I've used extensively in all my DokuWiki installs. Cheers, Daniel

x2goagent listening on public interface - how to make it listen on 127.0.0.1 only?

Hi, I am testing x2go - looks like a very good alterative to other solutions! However, I see that (only) when I am logged in via x2goclient I have an x2goagent process listening on all network interfaces on port 6050 - I would feel better if this software did only listen on 127.0.0.1, if this is technically possible. I did not found any hint on a "listen 127.0.0.1" configuration item and where to put it, if existing - how can I make x2goagent NOT listen on a public network interface?
