X2Go TCE on USB key with Debian live-build ?

Hello to everybody, This is our first post on x2go. Sorry if the question seems stupid or if we are not at the right place. We googled during days without finding a precise answer... We have to use thin clients to connect to x2go-servers. Thus, we looked the "Installation of the X2Go TCE based on Debian" (http://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/wiki:components:tce) That looks not bad :-) But we cannot use a PXE server. So, we need the "same" thing, but on a CD, or better, on an USB key. We saw on archived posts (for example: http://www.mail-archive.com/x2go-dev@lists.berlios.de/msg02233.html) that this question was discussed, but not considered "making sense". The links which are given there (for example for "apt-get install x2go-rootfs") do not seem any more up to date... And the wiki "X2Go Live" (http://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/wiki:components:x2golive) seems... empty. For other reasons, we use a little "live-build" (http://live.debian.net/) but we are not experts. Our first question: After runnig "x2gothinclient_update" we have a "X2go TCE chroot" (under /opt/x2gothinclient/chroot/). Is there a simple way to use this directory with live-build to build a binary image? That is, avoiding the "bootstrap" stage and the "chroot" stage, but starting directly with the "binary" stage? Our second (more global) question: It looks like the "X2go TCE chroot" (under /opt/x2gothinclient/chroot/) obtained with "x2gothinclient_create" is built in a similar way what live-build could do (are we wrong?). As said previously (in the archive posts), it seems that the project x2go decided not to maintain both solutions: TCE and live-build. But, *maybe* would-it be possible to maintain both results for a single effort? live-build can build different kinds of images (lb_config -b|--binary-images iso|iso-hybrid|net|tar|hdd) of which "net". Instead of maintaining the "x2gothinclient_create" package, would it not be possible to just maintain the accurate options to be entered to "lb config", "lb build", etc... and the additional "includes" or "modified packages" or "hooks" and to let the user choose between the options "--binary-images" ("hdd" or "net")? Thus both needs could be satisfied just with a single effort ;-) Thank you for your answers. In the rush, we just need a way to "put" the PXE-chroot on a "live" USB key... Best Regards, Charlie --

x2goclient and HTTP proxy

Hi all, After a hiatus of a couple of years, I decided to try x2go again, since NX Client from Nomachine doesn't seem to handle an XFCE desktop very well. I was pleasantly surprised, x2go seems to have improved massively and works just beautifully. One thing I am missing however is the ability to establish a session through an HTTP proxy server (using HTTP CONNECT). NX Client 3.x does do this (but it seems it's not possible in the NX Client 4 beta client). I've done a little bit of research, and it looks like LIBSSH does have some facilities to support a "proxy command": ssh_options_set(my_ssh_session, SSH_OPTION_PROXYCOMMAND, "command"); "command" in this case would be something like 'corkscrew' or 'proxytunnel'. http://www.agroman.net/corkscrew/ http://proxytunnel.sourceforge.net/ What are the chances that this SSH_OPTION_PROXYCOMMAND could be integrated into the x2go client? It looks like x2goclient is built using cygwin, and I believe that both corkscrew as well as proxytunnel can be built on cygwin as well. So I wonder if the following additions to x2goclient are possible: - Add the following GUI options to x2go sessions: - HTTP proxy host: takes hostname/ip of your HTTP proxy - HTTP proxy port: takes port of HTTP proxy - HTTP proxy username : for optional authentication - HTTP proxy password : for optional authentication - I'm not sure if corkscrew supports proxy authentication... - On start of a session, if HTTP proxy host+port is specified, use ssh_options_set() with command corkscrew <proxy host> <proxy port> <remote host> <remote_ip> (I *think* you can harcode %h and %p for the remote host and remote ip...) - Add corkscrew to the x2goclient distribution I believe the licenses of x2goclient and corkscrew are compatible (both GPL2). Kubuntu Precise & DBUS problems with x2go. { FORWARD from X2GO-DEV }

Hello ML I've been strugling with kubuntu 12.04 precise & x2go. As reported before kde crashes several times with dbus errors. DBUS is deneing access to x2go remote sessions. I've googled for the error, but can't seem to find the way to solve the problem system wide. As a example, printer-applet crashes if i don't change two rules in /etc/dbus-1/system.d/com.redhat.NewPrinterNotification.conf I've already tried to modify dbus conf to listen on tcp connections instead of only socket. I've instaled two testing machines and have been having crashes with kwin. Both machines are running on KVM and don't have the same problem when running inside virt-viewer. Authentication issues

I need assistance getting X2Go working. I have Ubuntu 12.04 running x2go server and OSX as the x2go client. I can ssh into ubuntu from mac. I cannot get x2go working - no matter what. The errors messages are non-descript and neither google or the documentation has been any help. I get - (1) The server is unknown. Do you trust the host key? Public key has .... in spite of having the public key in authorized_keys and the server in known_hosts. After responding Yes to the prompt above I get - No public key matchesd Access Denied. Authentication that can continue: publickey, keyboard-interactive. Pressing OK then follows with the username/password prompt. I put in the correct username and password. The system repeats again the same 'The server is unknown message from (1) above. It does not matter whether I allow sshd to use clear passwords or not. I kindly ask for your assistance. That request said, let me say this: I think this project is fantastic and has a lot of promise. However, as long as connectivity between server and client remains more difficult than what it should, and remains badly documented, then the entire project effort is meaningless. The entire project is therefore less than useless. I have some 20 years systems engineering/software development experience and am generally the most technical person in most companies that I work at, which is saying something when there are about 500 technical resources at any point in time. If I get frustrated with setting up simple connectivity then clearly it is beyond the average user - who by the way is your target audience. No window decorations for single applications

Hey, On the wiki page http://www.x2go.org/doku.php/wiki:development:x2go-qa I found these known issue: "On some servers Qt-applications have no window decorations, reason is currently unknown." I'm running the x2go server on a kubuntu, an openSuse 11.4 and 12.1 machine and confirm this bug for every of these servers! So for me this seems not to be a rare problem. All of the machines come with KDE but on suse I also installed lxde. I really would like to help to solve this bug but I don't know how. If anyone gives me a hint I could give more information about the configurations on the servers. The decorations are missing at every program I tried, this includes pure kde, gtk but also java applications. Best regards Fabian

Building x2goclient on windows from source?

Hi all, I'm trying to figure out how to build the x2goclient from source on Windows from source. I want to try to add a feature to x2goclient but I'm having some trouble figuring out all the build dependencies. Is there any documentation available on this? Maarten

Wine DirectX/DirectDraw does not work

Hi! I want to use wine in an x2go session. This X11 Server doesn't support the OpenGL extension GLX_SGI_swap_control (http://www.opengl.org/wiki/Swap_Interval) Sadly I am not able to patch the sources myself (at least for now). :-( regards, Bernd

windows client event log spam?

X2go windows client ( x2goclient-3.99.2.1-rc3-setup.exe <http://code.x2go.org/releases/binary-win32/x2goclient/x2goclient-3.99.2.1-r…>) seems to be working fine, but I have my machine setup to notify me of any errors/critical/warning in event log. I'm getting the following errors from Event Log: sshd: PID 10416: error: Could not load host key: /etc/ssh_host_key sshd: PID 10416: error: Could not load host key: /etc/ssh_host_rsa_key sshd: PID 10472: error: Couldn't create pid file "/var/run/sshd.pid": No such file or directory The last occurs when you start the client, the first two occur when you log into the server. I should note that these errors in Event Log are not handled properly, I get the following in front of every error: "The description for Event ID 0 from source sshd cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer. If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event. The following information was included with the event: " I have created a ssh_host_rsa_key in C:\Users\<user>\.x2go\etc and this doesn't seem to resovle the problem. It's not clear why the install doesn't create these files, or why the errors are reported if x2go is running fine. james
