Scientific Linux 6 XFCE issue

It seems that when we run XFCE or custom desktop xfce4-session, we get the same result over X2Go for XFCE - one panel, that is empty. This is not what we get logging into XFCE on the local console of the computer. Google shows this is often an issue on Ubuntu derivatives, or was several years ago. Has anyone else had this issue on RHEL derivatives? Any idea why it doesn't seem to get the expected panel settings? -- James Pulver CLASSE Computer Group Cornell University

newbie questions and some answers

It seems that startlxde is part of lxde-common, which is not part of Lubuntu. So if you installed Lubuntu OS you don't have startlxde, whereas if you installed say Ubuntu Server and then added LXDE, you do have startlxde. Anyway I installed lxde-common in Lubuntu, and it all started working. Except the user I get logged in as, doesn't have the settings adjustments I had previously created. This is something to do with /home/username/.config/lxsession/ having both /Lubuntu/ and /LXDE/ folders. It wasn't too time-consuming to set up lxpanel the way I like it, and modify /LXDE/autostart to match /Lubuntu/autostart . I guess I will have to do that 4 times - 2 clients (with screens and keyboards) x 2 servers (headless). I expect this could all be fixed up at the developers' end by adding a LUBUNTU entry to the dropdown list for Session Type, ( and a new set of bindings ?) This needs to be better explained in the blurb too. That just leaves the armhf problem. I have found some hints on building, but I don't know what machine was being used that did it in 1 hour - building wxWidgets took 11 hours for me, and needed a big swapfile too. It would be much better if someone could do it once, centrally, and then maintain an armhf repository. Anyway, x2go works nicely and I'll be sticking with it over x11vnc.

Newbie questions

I have 4 machines on my LAN, all running Lubuntu 14.04. 2 of them run headless. One of those has armhf architecture - OrangePi PC is a true amazing piece of kit for $15 All are currently running sshd and x11vnc. x11vnc is not a "real" server as it runs under a logged in user account, so the headless machines have to autologin, which I don't like. So I have installed x2goserver v4.0.5.0, x2golxdebindings, and x2goclient on 3 machines successfully, and set up session info for any machine to access any other. But when x2go client tries to connect, it gets through SSH Key negotiation, it brings up a dark grey screen with x2go logo, and then stops "Unable to execute: startlxde". "mlocate startlxde" doesn't find any files. x2goserver status is up and running. I can't find any x2go.log files, but syslog has: x2goclient[12543]: segfault at 0 ip 00000000004b29ee sp 00007ffc1711ac30 error 4 in x2goclient[400000+25a000] I'm at a loss as to what to do next. Is there a repo for x2go on armhf? A diagram of the architecture of x2go modules would be good.

x2go in TCE environment

Dear all, maybe someone can give me a hint ... I tried to set up a client server solution to replace LTSP. Some Background: 1) Server - 2 CPU -> 8 Core - 20 GB RAM - 1G Network / 2 NIC - Ubuntu 14.04 LTS - VirtualBox 2) Client Futro S400 256 MB RAM or HP Thin Client HSTNC-012-TC (1 GB RAM) I set everything up according to "http://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/wiki:advanced:tce:install" in an virtualbox (actually 2 boxes - one as "server" one as "pxe-boot-server" - both Ubuntu 14.04 server minimal) 1) "sudo x2gothinclient_update" as well as "sudo x2gothinclient_create" both end with a message that he cannot follow / write to symlink - but seems this is a minor problem 2) when I start a client he gets an IP and boots into the menu - if I choose "Thin Clint..." he further boots into the chroot and finally I get a terminal to log in. Within the chroot I gave root a password and can login. With the command "startx x2goclient" the x2goclient is started and I can establish a session and connect to my application-server. So far so good - but - I can't do this (because of x server errors as "normal user") - minor problem - everything is terrible slow - big problem - LTSP is much much faster ... - I can't change screen resolutions I made the experience that x2go is a wonderful piece of software and when I connect to my company server from outside its nearly as fast as when I work in the office via LTSP... so I assume that I made mistakes ?!? Any hints please? Why is it so unacceptable slow and I thought that I won't get a terminal and the clients would boot direct into the x2goclient window? Best regards - Christian

Ctrl key, and clipboard

I am new to x2go. I just created my first ever x2goserver (centos 6.7 x86_64) and connected my first ever client (OSX). I'm really impressed by the speed, and ability to resize and suspend/resume. But I immediately noticed two problems: My ctrl key doesn't go across. In the remote gnome session, I launch a gnome-terminal, and I start something like ping, and when I press Ctrl-C, the other side just gets a 'c' character. I don't see any way to press Ctrl-C or Ctrl-D and so on. The second problem is the clipboard. Although I have the option selected for bidirectional clipboard, when I copy something on the remote side, it doesn't appear in my local clipboard. I didn't test copying something locally and pasting remotely ... If you want, I can do more testing. The client crashes a lot when you make changes to the session config - but I don't care about that as long as it's reliable during normal usage. Thanks for the development of x2go! Is it ready for production yet? Are these things expected to work yet, or is it something for me to just watch for future usage? Thanks again...

sessions won't die

It still happens once in a while - I get sessions that won't die after calling x2goterminate. Here's one that's stuck now: 1174|asharma-62-1450478577_stRPUBLISHED_dp32|62|cx2go.uphs.upenn.edu |R|2015-12-18T17:42:57|e016e30d1277cccb5d7360cc8760c01f|170.212.109.160|30045|30046|2015-12-18T17:43:27|asharma|247541|30047| Furthermore, there's no process 1174 running, and the user asharma isn't running any processes either. This user is currently having trouble starting a new session, and I don't know if it's related to this or not. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks. -M

keys not being passed from MacOS client to x2go session?

Hi All, This is probably a trivial question: I have installed x2go server, from EPEL, on CentOS 6.6; I'm using Gnome for the desktop. The problem is when I connect using x2go client for older MacOS (i'm on 10.7) some key combinations apparently do not go through. Like, Ctrl+C or Escape or Shift+Ctrl++, all not working. On Windows VM the Windows x2go client works ok. Are there any settings for MacOS x2go clients that can be used to fix it? Start TCE with an empty login field

Hi. When launching x2go client, it always pre-fill the login field with the content of the $USER variable. If this makes sens most of the time, it doesn't when running in TCE: the login field is always x2gothinclient. I tried to change x2gothinclient_start script, by calling x2goclient like: USER="" /usr/bin/x2goclient --no-menu [... etc...] This works, the login field is empty, but this setting also breaks folder sharing (when calling the x2gomountdirs commands, the login arg is empty, so nothing happens) Is there a way to just start x2goclient with an empty login field ? TCE, no sound

Hi. I'm setting up a X2go TCE env. It's mostly working, but I still have a few issues. One of those issues is that I have no sound on my thinclients. Here's my setup: - PXE server is running Ubuntu 14.04 amd64. Minimal install, only the thinclient management is installed - Thin client chroot has been setup like explained on the wiki (http://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/wiki:advanced:tce:install) I kept most of the default settings (so the chroot is a debian Wheezy) - X2go server is a CentOS 7 x86_64 box, with the MATE desktop env Thin clients boot fine and can choose between the CentOS/MATE linux desktop or a direct RDP connection (using the xfreerdp client). But, sound isn't working in either case on the client. I've added the module-native-protocol-tcp loading in the chroot (as explained in the FAQ), on the thin client, I can see that pulse is running and accepting connection on port 4713. Where can I start debuging this ? On the x2go server (the CentOS box), I can see the x2go session command: /bin/bash /usr/bin/x2goruncommand 50 30909 fws-50-1450192269_stDMATE_dp24 30004 mate-session nosnd D Is the nosnd param related ? In my session definition, I've added: sound=true soundsystem=pulse startsoundsystem=true soundtunnel=false Did I miss something ? Compression/graphics

Is there any way to improve the graphics performance of x2go? Either from the server side or from the client side? Even though the general performance of x2go is fast and fluid, when I open specific applications (e.g. LibreOffice Draw or other graphics related applications), the response becomes so slow that it becomes almost unusable. This is not a problem of the host machine: there is plenty of computing power and memory; also, running VNC I do not experience this issue. I was wondering if there were any settings that I could change either on the server side or client side to fix this problem. I'm running x2go server on CentOS (6.7 and 7), and x2go client on Windows 10. The compression that I'm using is 4k-png. Thank you.
