This is odd. The proper way is to fork the project, work on a branch and then submit a PR/MR against the main project.
It's weird that you cannot fork the project, though.
Our default is to allow users to create personal projects, but this did not get applied to your account, because you are an external user and have not signed up to our GitLab instance directly, but went through the gitlab.com OAuth provider.
I've set your project limit to 30 now, which should allow you to create a personal fork.

Maybe I made a mistake. I created a password for the login, did a relogin with the PW and tried to fork. But I got no resources to create a fork. Then I did a relogin via GitLab, and tried to fork. No resources to create a fork.
Should I wait some time? Is there a problem with the browser cache?
For a preview I did upload the code to github. https://github.com/usergeorge/x2goclient In the meantime I try to get things going in x2go GitLab
