Nothing to do with X2go - Question about X11 terminal

Dear Sirs, may I post a question regarding a non-x2go issue? If it is ok, here is my query; I have Linux Mint 8 (Helena / Ubuntu 9.10) installed on my desktop at home. A friend of mine was clearing his office and gave me a piece of Wyse Winterm WT5420XL. I grabbed it with the view of connecting this thin client to my desktop so that my family can access the desktop. I thought it was plug and play but it is not so. I don't know where to begin / how to get started. I looked at http://www.wyse.com but WT5420XL was not even listed in the product range! The firmware is Winterm 5000 series / V1.0.6 (Build 407). The closest is WT5440XL. Anyway, the website has only references of hooking up to Citrix or similar high priced thin client server environments. There is no reference of hooking up to a standard Linux Mint / Ubuntu desktop, for any of their products in their product range. I am connected to the internet via an Aztech ADSL (4-port + Wifi) router-modem. This Aztech router-modem is the DHCP server. I connected the WT5420XL to this router-modem. My desktop is 192.168.1.100, the WT5420XL is 192.168.1.101 In the WT5420XL Terminal Properties / Network I selected "Obtain an IP address from a DHCP server". When I click to Terminal Properties / SysInfo I can see that in the TCP/IP Settings the IP Address is 192.168.1.101, Gateway 192.168.1.1 (Aztech router-modem). In /etc/gdm/custom.conf the setting is as follows; ************************************************************ # GDM configuration storage [xdmcp] Enable=true DisplaysPerHost=2 [chooser] [security] [debug] [daemon] TimedLoginEnable=false AutomaticLoginEnable=false TimedLogin=johnson AutomaticLogin=johnson TimedLoginDelay=30 ************************************************************ In the Winterm Connection Manager / Configure I click on Add / New Connection and select X Connection. In Winterm Connection Manager / Configure / XSetup / Start I select "Remote Desktop Mode". In Winterm Connection Manager / Configure / XSetup / Connect I select XDMCP-Query and for XDMCP Server I enter 192.168.1.100. And I give this the Title "Linux1". In In the Winterm Connection Manager / Connections I click on "Linux1", the screen goes into black&white mode than a few seconds later the error box "Xconnection error / No respond from XDMCP server." appears. Clicking OK will bring me back to the Winterm Connection Manager screen. I have been searching the web and stumbled across x2go's website. Wow!

I've been playing with x2go for a couple of days, and the only thing that comes to mind, is «wow». I've been using FreeNX for a long time, and one of the things I've been struggling with, is two-way audio. Using x2goserver-one, it just worked. I've only tried with Ubuntu on both client and server and I hope it works well with Windows and OS X clients too. If that's the case, then I'm definitely sold. One question: is it possible to deactivate the magic pixel functionality in the upper-right corner and instead use a command to switch to the client OS? That would be awesome. Thanks! Suspend and resume physical session

Hi, is it possible to suspend a physical session and to resume it with x2go (Or to somehow "transfer" a physical session to an x2go-session and backwards)? Consider the following scenario: 1) Developer starts his machine and prepares an application/presentation he wants to present in the meeting room 2) Developer suspends his local session and wants to reopen this session from the meeting room and he wants exactly the session state he has left on the desktop. 3) After the meeting the developer wants to go back to his workstation and resume the suspended session. I already know that it's possible to suspend a x2go-Session but what i want is something like Windows Remote Desktop. best regards, david

Larger-scale X2GO installations - experience?

Dear all, I have been looking for a suitable set-up for our high school (Swiss Gymnasium, grades 10 through 13, 400 students, 60 teachers) that would allow our students to use their own netbook/laptop in class as well as at home. Conditions are: 1. no technical support for users' computers (therefore no installing individual applications, no passing out images etc.) 2. must work on computers in any state, even with broken OS, browser whatever (so must allow terminal server solution as fall-back) 3. plattform independent (win/mac/linux and independent of individual computer models) 4. must work over WLAN 5. should be available on- as well as off-site A couple of years ago I started looking more closely into LTSP and I have set up a test lab that works just fine. Though, the local nature of that makes it less suitable to our needs. Clearly, I have studied NX and now I have followed the development of X2GO more or less closely. I feel that X2GO is the perfect candidate and I want to set up a larger-scale test network. Before doing so, however, I would like to hear other people's experience with such set-ups. I have compiled a preliminary list of questions (s.b.). If you have any experience with larger scale X2GO set-ups, I would really appreciate your input and I think others might be interested as well. Custom paper size for cups-x2go.ppd

Hello, all. We have a client who needs to use the x2go printing system to print to plotters for construction drawings. They need to be able to specify custom paper sizes. For example, I am on site right now and they need to print 30" x 36" drawings. What would be involved in editing the cups-x2go.ppd file so that they can specify a custom paper size? We had hoped to offload that job to the local print driver but, when we tried to do this with the cups-x2go printer, it sent an A4 sized image and printed it on 30" x 36" paper. Thus it seems essential for the cups-x2go driver to send the custom sized document in the first place. Thanks - John

Shared drive icon cleanup

Hello, all. We've been having a problem with the icons created when one shares a local share with the X2Go desktop not being cleaned up on Windows computers. It works fine when the client is Linux. This could be peculiar to our highly customized setup. Has anyone else noticed this? Александр, здравствуйте! Я нашел временное решение: в скрипте монтирования /usr/bin/x2gomountdirs добавил параметр umask=0000 для команды sshfs. И после, проброса папки на сервер, я выполняю под пользователем скрипт, анализирующий папку media в home директории и в случае наличия в ней проброшенной папки, выполняется команда: convmvfs /home/$USER/folder -o srcdir=/home/$USER/media,icharset=CP1251,ocharset=UTF8 папка folder конечно же должна быть создана. Конечно это некрасивое решение, но видимо иного быть не может. Потому как, если изменить скрипт монтирования под кодировку cp1251, то возникнут проблемы с Linux --> Linux связкой. Есть мысль, создать копию x2gomountdirs с параметрами для монтирования cp1251, а в windows-клиенте сделать опцию, монтировать в русской кодировке. Я, правда, не уверен, что это возможно. Т.к. не влезал пока в принцип работы самого сервера и клиента. Но если бы это было возможно реализовать, думаю, решились бы многие проблемы, потому что не только с русской кодировкой могут быть проблемы, арабская, иврит, китайская и т.д. И причем именно в связке Windows --> Linux Should i translate my message? Or i can post in russian?

Problem with charsets (folder mapping - windows to linux)

Hi, thank you for your project, it is amazing! Primarily, excuse me for my English. I have one problem with folder mapping... The situation is that I want to use x2go in Russia. And the mapping folders from Windows to linux hampered difference charsets (cp1251 and UTF-8). So, how can I mount the Windows folder converting in UTF-8? there is such a fuse-convmvfs, but I do not know how to implement it in a script to mount the folder. I am waiting for your help! x2go local printing sends to pdf app

Hello, all. We are in the home stretch of our first major X2Go deployment and have hit a problem with using the x2go cups printer to print to local devices. When Windows users print to the X2Go printer and select a physical printer from the list of local devices, we find the print job is opened by whichever application is configured to open PDF files. For example, we had one station where the print jobs opened in Acrobat Standard no matter what printer we sent the job to. We removed Acrobat Standard and the job now opened in Acrobat reader. I'm assuming this is a bug. Is it something I have misconfigured? We really want the job going where we send it and not to a PDF reader (unless, of course, we tell it to go to the PDF reader!).
