Do we really need an x2gouser

Hi, can someone please remind me again why we need a sqlite database that is shared for all users? It allows users to see what other users are currently having running sessions, which I frankly don't consider very important. It could even be considered a privacy issue. If there isn't a good reason for a shared database, why don't we have x2go users have their own sqlite database in their home directory? This would allow to get rid of the x2go user and all suid/sgid complexity that comes with it. Background, I'm trying to have my new employer deploy x2go, and I'm currently having trouble to explain this point. I understand that the current printing implementation requires the x2goprint user, but that's not an issue right now. Thanks, and greetings from NYC! -- regards, Reinhard

Questions about Xsession/Xsession.d handling

In the Fedora x2goserver package, I've packaged the /etc/x2go/Xsession* files as part of the main package. This script exits successfully and so $cmd$args is never executed. It looks like something in Xsession is supposed to run $STARTUP, but nothing is configured to do so. Are users expected to create their own script to do this? Part of the confusion for me is that there is no /etc/X11/Xsession.d in Fedora, so I'm not sure what is meant to be there. By default most files and folders related to Xsession config are symlinks to the corresponding file/folder in /etc/X11. X2Go Client Windows binary 4.0.1.2pre02

Hi, In preparation for the upcoming release of X2Go Client 4.0.1.2, a new nightly build of the Windows binary is available for download under: http://code.x2go.org/releases/binary-win32/x2goclient/previews/4.0.1.2/ Right now the current plan for 4.0.1.2's release is "We've stopped making changes. If no showstopper bugs or regressions are reported, we'll release 4.0.1.2 on Friday." So while we want all bugs reported on http://bugs.x2go.org/ , it is especially important that users report any regressions since the last stable version of X2Go Client for windows, 4.0.0.3, before Friday 2013-12-13. There have been several commits since pre02 was built. However, the changes are so small that we do not intend to release another preview build before 4.0.1.2 is officially released. Half of the commits are related to Fedora & EPEL packaging anyway. More information about this build: - It is still compatible with Windows XP! It bundles VcXsrv 1.14.2.1 (2013-07-26) because all later versions of VcXsrv (starting with 1.14.3, released 2013-09-20) are incompatible with Windows XP. - The X2Go Project will evaluate options for upgrading VcXsrv after X2Go Client 4.0.1.2 is released. The general consensus is that X2Go Client should continue to support Windows XP until at least when Microsoft stops supporting XP in April 2014. package: x2gothinclient severity: normal version:1.1.0.2 Hi, I just got x2gothinclientd to error out during system startup, message was "Can't locate File/Path/Expand.pm in @INC [...]". Seems like the package relies on libfile-path-expand-perl, but doesn't formally depend on it yet. Manually apt-get install'ing the libfile-path-expand-perl package removed the error. -Stefan

Bug#365: Please add config option for "Eye Candy" regarding session icons

Package: x2goclient Severity: wishlist Version: 4.0.1.2 The taskbar icon suddenly changes into the seal icon once the connection is established. Please add a checkbox/config file entry to disable this. I'm sure it will confuse users who have previously used published application mode and look for the "Accelerated X" icon that has just vanished. NB: I'm kind of disappointed that we're adding silly eye candy when there still are serious bugs to fix.
