That is, I have a custom made somewhat old application that uses some fonts that x2go doesn't have (even if I install all fonts). When I use the commercial XServer Exceed, then the fonts are displayed correctly, X2Go uses some other fonts instead of the required ones. How can I add the required fonts to X2Go that I have in the other X-Server? I already tryed to copy over the font files to x2go's internal vcxsrv/fonts/... directory, but the xlsfonts command didn't show the new fonts. Any idea? Some hints to install new fonts?
Hmm, on Linux, you have to refresh the font cache/font index after installing new fonts. No idea how that works with VcXsrv thought. Pinging Mike#2 ...

I also tried to install the standalone version of vcxsrv, but it complains whein I start it, that it misses "api-ms-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll". Why doesn't it work, and why does the x2go integrated version work on the same computer?
library "api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll" is installed by package: 'Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable' from: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=53587

After installation of this package vcxsrv could be started. But I would like to know how to use the fonts also in X2Go.
Are you saying the regular and current version of vcxsrv is able to display the fonts you are looking for a) by default b) after copying them into the appropriate directory?
Or neither?

Hello, I suggest to modify the Windows client installation default to include always all the font sets available: they don't require a lot of space and you could install or update the x2go client with all font sets included without having to specify them manually. This would be useful when you need to install the client remotely, automatically and silently. Sandro

- I am not an expert on this, but I have never needed to run any sort of refresh fonts command. When I encountered a missing font issue, or other users did, merely installing the additional fonts on the Windows client fixed the issue. IIRC, this did not fix font issues 100% of the time though.
- Remember that during the X2Go client for Windows install, there are 4 sets of fonts. Did you install all of them? If not, please try that.
- Please test out VcXsrv by itself (X2Go not being used) against the application server with the fonts selected during the VcXsrv install. Test both X2Go Client's current version: https://github.com/ArcticaProject/vcxsrv/releases/tag/1.17.0.0-3 And the upstream version: https://sourceforge.net/projects/vcxsrv/ Please let us know if it fixes it.
If neither #2 nor #3 fixes it, then there are other things we can try.

Do note that you don't have to use the official installer if it doesn't suit your needs. X2GoClient for Windows can be run in portable mode, even saving its config to files like on Linux/macOS, rather than in the registry, but even if you don't want to go "portable" and save the config in the registry, you can still just copy all the files over from one manual installation (of course, uninstalling from "Uninstall Programs" won't work in that case, so you have to remove the directory manually, if you wish to uninstall, and if not using the command line switch for portable mode, traces will remain in the registry).
Also, if your users are on the same LAN, consider placing the X2GoClient files on a read-only network share. That way, you don't have to touch your clients at all - copy the newer client to the share using your admin credentials, bam, all your clients can start using the new version right away. Plus it doesn't take up any space on their hard drives.
