Hi, I am trying to connect a Windows 7 machine to a Mint/Cinnamon server with desktop sharing enabled.
I see the ssh connection apparently successful from auth.log: Nov 11 17:57:42 myPC sshd[31369]: Accepted keyboard-interactive/pam for myUser from 10.0.0.5 port 49481 ssh2 Nov 11 17:57:42 myPC sshd[31369]: pam_unix(sshd:session): session opened for user sms1\dcostantini by (uid=0)
If I try a wrong password it fails, so up to SSH all seems ok.
But the client shows nothing, it is greyed out (but seems not frozen) and I can only close the window.
Is there some log on the client? Maybe I can find the blocker there and report for more help. I read that Cinnamon was an issue but it should be working now, right?
Thanks, Diego
You can't use a compositing desktop with X2Go, if you put Mate on there
(on Mint) it will work (that's what I am using to get to my Mint server).

Hi Robert, Nomachine claims to work with it (I tried and it does - ish), and in fact Cinnamon is also in x2go list to choose. Cinnamon support is also in latest changelog, so I suppose there must be a way.
Btw I have also Mate and it did exactly the same, however I enabled desktop sharing from cinnamon, so that might be the reason.
I come from xrdp madness, so I know a bit the issue with cinnamon and not mate.

Okay, I'll admit I didn't look at the list, and NoMachine has started
work on compositing desktops, I don't know how they are going about it.
What I do know is that I had this problem with Mint and other OS's that
used compositing desktops and in every case Mate' worked with X2Go (and NX). I've read other people got it to work with Gnome classic but I had no luck with that and really prefer Mate anyway.

I think recently things got a bit better for Cinnamon, and since I prefer that to Mate, I would fight a little longer to get it working.
The problem is: where can I find any log to figure where is exactly the issue? And should I post here or on the dev list?

In /var/log, x2goserver.log, in /etc/x2go/x2goserver.conf under [log]
you can set the log level to get more details.
Thanks! And anything on Windows 7 Client?

Post to the dev list, maybe... Or to the bug tracker if you found
something that's reproducible.
Logging takes place here:
X2Go Server: /var/log/syslog X2Go Client: stderr (use --debug) PyHoca-GUI: stderr (use --libdebug --debug) Xsession itself: $HOME/.xsession-x2go-errors NX (server-side): $HOME/.x2go/C-<sessionid>/session.* NX (client-side): $HOME/.x2go/S-<sessionid>/session.*

Hi Mike, I didn't see that page until the end. I tried cinnamon-session-cinnamon2d but nothing happens as before.
syslog has no info on the session.
auth.log has the positive login I reported already.
This is what I have in $HOME, no apparent reference to x2go errors: .x2godesktopsharing/ .xsession .xsession-errors
when i open the client in debug mode I found in the windows event viewer:
don't know if there is something better somewhere else.

Hi Diego,
As to xrdp, how do you like it, esp. compared with NX? We would like to have an rdp option for some of our clients. I would appreciate your comments very much, before further we start experimenting.
