Hi there, I found this option in /etc/x2go/x2goagent.options that I'd like to comment out on a multi-user system, but am more than a little scared by the attached comment: # Launch X2Go's X-server x2goagent with option "-nolisten tcp". # # This is the default setting and the X2Go developers really recommend not to # touch this. However, if you play with this (i.e. if you comment it out) you # should really know what you are doing. # # For everyone else: don't touch the line below!!! pyhoca-cli stopped working for me. I expected it to ask me for password, but instead it raises an exception. I don't know what happened, because this works all the time. And I think I didn't change anything. Hi Karl, Thank you for your response! I took your example but it didn't work for me: I edited /etc/ssh/sshd_config on the server and restarted ssh, but X2GO still complained with the same kex error, but Pyhoca is still OK. I'll take a closer read and will try it again soon; maybe I messed up somehwere. ------ From: "KARL A. Thanks Ulrich. Can anybody answer this question fully? I am trying to decide whether to use x2go when I plan to have x2go clients in the browser. Is there any way to have the x2go client in the browser without NPAPI plugins, which are being universally deprecated? AFAICS noVNC is a VNC client. guacamole supports VNC and RDP, X2Go uses NX which is neither VNC nor RDP. So the answer is no. But adding support to guacamole would be nice. Uli

Compression method guidance

Dear all, X2Go supports an awful lot of different compression methods. Is there any guidance available for which compression methods work best in which scenarios? I didn't see anything on the X2Go wiki but it's possible I've overlooked it. I can't even find a description of what all the different compression methods actually are, though I'm guessing that most of them are named in the format bits_per_pixel-image_compression_algorithm. For my own use, I usually use X2Go to run individual applications (not an entire desktop) remotely. These applications are primarily text-based, such as terminal emulators, text editors, and mail clients. The remote machines have upload speeds of about 3 Mbit/s. Would it make sense for me to choose something png-based rather than jpeg-based? 256-png perhaps, since I am not looking at any images other than toolbar icons? x2goagent-backtrace 3.5.99.3 libs

Attached is a gdb backtrace of a core I got with a nightly build nxagent (nxagent.bt) installed this morning 2/11/2016 at about 4:00 AM or so with nx-libs 3.5.99.3. nxagent version is nxagent/trusty,now 2:3.5.99.3-0.1+git20161219.1907+14.04.release.1 amd64 [installed,automatic]. I was running rkhunter multiple times and editing the configuration file so that it would not produce false positives when on the last attempt to edit the conf file using nvi it exploded. I had edited this same file with nvi maybe half dozen times prior without it exploding. I'd send you the core but it's 153MB and I have postfix here set to limit mail to 50MB and I'm betting it is probably tighter on the receiving end but I will hang on to it in case someone cares to examine directly. This was under ubuntu 16.10 running on a KVM/QEMU virtual machine on a physical host i7-6700k based machine running ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS. If you need any other specifics let me know.

Hi! I totally understand I need "X11Forwarding yes", but if I unclick sshproxy, sound, remote printing, filesharing over tunnel why is then "AllowTcpForwarding no" not OK? Is this needed tunnel a major piece of the x2go-design? thanks! /Erik Starbäck, UPPMAX, Sweden

x2golistsessions_root vs. x2golistsessions on x2goserver with postgres DB backend

Hi $LIST, I'm not filing this as a bug (yet) as I'm not sure if this is intended behavior. On a default X2GoServer installation, with the SQLite DB backend, both x2golistsessions and x2golistsessions_root return sensible output - with x2golistsessions working "per user", and x2golistsessions_root, when invoked as root, shows all sessions. On an X2GoServer installation with the postgres DB backend, however, the output of x2golistsessions_root, when invoked as root, is always empty, while x2golistsessions works as expected for a regular user. So ... I figured "Hey, maybe it's because root doesn't have a file /root/.x2go/sqlpass" - so I tried creating one. Bzzt - "x2godbadmin --adduser root" returns 'The super-user "root" is not allowed to use X2Go'. I totally agree that root should not be able to start an X2Go session, but: 1) at present, in SQLite mode, root can start an X2Go session 2) root (or $SOME_USER_WITH_ADMIN_PRIVS - if it has to be a different user name, so be it) SHOULD be able to view the sessions list (at least for their own server, if not for the entire farm), regardless of which DB backend is in use. It seems to me as if nothing like x2gousbmount is installed on the image. Any hints? Still having issues with restoring session.

Hello all. I am needing to move from NoMachine (v3 server) as it has problems with some applications on resume (linked to cairo libraries) but the client works exactly as I want which is to use a 4:3 monitor if attached. My laptop is Windows 7 and the monitor setup is one of Laptop on own - just use internal screen Laptop site 1 - internal screen is master, 4:3 is secondary Laptop site 2 - internal screen off, 4:3 is master, 16:9 is secondary. The NoMachine client will always run full screen on the 4:3 screen which ever it is and the session runs there too. Reconnection works fine and if on a different screen resizes automatically. The x2go client runs in its own window. I'm OK with that. I've only tested using Laptop site 1 at the moment. On initial session start up I can get it full screen on the 4:3 monitor. That's fine. But on session reconnect it opens in a window on the laptop screen and if I move to the 4:3 screen and maximize (not what I want exactly) the session doesn't resize itself. I use an external vcxsrv as the "embedded" version crashes on session reconnect. I'd also expect the session to move to the correct monitor if I disconnect from/connect to external monitors while session is running. Any help much appreciated. Turn off ALL clipborad interaction -- even PRIMARY (middle mouse clicking activities)?

Hi! I really need to "sandbox" the user as much as possible. I managed to rewrite the x2go client so the clipboard sharing is "none" whatever they select. But is it also possible to turn off the classic X (PRIMARY) cut and paste-model? Ideally I want to keep it working "inside" the g2go-login, but I can live with a way to completely turn it off. So what I whant to achive is this: 1) No selection with mouse INSIDE the x2go-session should be middle-button-pasted outside the x2go-session 2) No middle middle-button-paste inside the x2go-session should "grab" information from the outside system. 3) All this must be activated on the server side -- but there it can be rather hard core fiddling... Hi, some time ago I inquired about peoples experience with x2go in a LAN environment. I have now built a TCE live system (TFTP-only, no NFS) and a new Jessie server and I am still not very satisfied. I tried almost all available options. Here is the setup: 1GBit/s LAN on both sides Host: AMD 4.4GHz 8-core CPU with 32GB RAM Client: Pentium D 2.8GHz, 1GB RAM, nVidia 6200 with 2 screens@1200x1600 I tested MATE desktop with Firefox 51 (tried XRender on/off) and Chromium 55. I usually set the browser to fill half of the screen, that mean roughly the same number of pixels as a Full-HD (1920x1080) screen. I usually open https://www.heise.de and scroll up and down a bit. nopack: almost the best of it all, responsiveness good, Chrome and Firefox without XRender laggy rfb-hextile/tight: better for small screen updates, worse for large screen updates, scrolling in Firefox with XRender active is *very* smooth rdp: almost identical to rfb adaptive: middle ground, everything is laggy but at least there's always the same amount of lag for small and big screen updates. Unacceptable though because almost all text has JPEG artifacts no matter whether the quality is set to 1, 7 or 9. Graphics like Munin graphs are really ugly. 16m-png: good quality, mostly lag-free except Chrome and Firefox when XRender is off, becomes very unresponsive with lots of screen updates 16m-jpeg: artifacts, speed like adaptive I believe nopack or rfb would give better performance if it was possible to circumvent going through SSH. I have set SSH to use arcfour (this is a trusted, isolated LAN) and performance has been slightly better. Is there any way of making the initial authentication and startup through SSH but then having the NX connection going directly to the client? That would save a lot of processing power! (I'm thinking similar to the "tunnel" feature for sound.) Regards, Stefan

The source of the stty turned out to be in my own .bashrc, don't know how I managed to miss it or why it did not stop x2go from working on any other distribution (centos 6/7, SL 6/7, debian, mint, ubuntu), all of those distributions worked in spite of it. Time ago i was very happy with x2go to connect several users, simultaneously, to a KDE session server. Since KDE became plasma5 x2go give up running. I read "problems with libraries". With OpenSuse Leap 42 as the destination machine, Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS as the originating machine: I can login with x2go as root fine, but if I try as any other user I get standard input inappropriate ioctl for device. I can ssh with the same user and get no error. I have made sure I don't have mesg or stty in my .profile and .kshrc (I am using ksh as the login shell) and if I did it would also cause the same issue with ssh login. Keyboard problems: Ctrl-Alt-Left works, but not Ctrl-Alt-Right

Hi all, I'm running x2go on CentOS 7.x using the following packages: x2goclient-4.0.1.4-1.el6.x86_64 x2goserver-4.0.1.20-1.el6.x86_64 And when I run the server on my desktop, and then the client so I can connect to the screen I've setup, I have some minor keyboard problems. I can use Ctrl-Alt-Left to move inside the Full Screen x2go session to another panel. But I cannot move to the right at all, nor does running xev inside the x2go session show me hitting those keys. Just to note, I'm not running x2go and shadowing my :0 display (which might be better?) because I want to lock my session when I leave the office, and pick it up at home without worrying about people seeing my display while I'm away. In any case, my setxkbmap INSIDE my x2go session shows: > setxkbmap -query rules: base model: pc104 layout: us options: ctrl:nocaps While outside it shows: > setxkbmap -query rules: evdev model: pc104 layout: us options: ctrl:nocaps I'm actually using a tenkeyless CODE keyboard, but I don't think that makes much difference here. Using the 'gnome-keybinding-properties' I have the "Switch to workspace on the (left|right) of the current workspace" setup to be Ctrl+Alt+Left or Ctrl+Alt+Right from what I see. Using 'xev' both inside and outside of the x2go client I see different keycodes for my arrow keys. Outside, in the standard CentOS 7.x Gnome desktop, I see keycoded 113 (left) and 114 (right), but inside x2go I see 100 (left) and 102 (right) so there's some mapping going on somewhere which isn't getting through properly. For example, inside X2go session, when I press and release the left arrow key, I get: KeyPress event, serial 37, synthetic NO, window 0x7400001, root 0x6e, subw 0x0, time 3164346691, (107,75), root:(109,832), state 0x0, keycode 100 (keysym 0xff51, Left), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False KeyRelease event, serial 37, synthetic NO, window 0x7400001, root 0x6e, subw 0x0, time 3164346811, (107,75), root:(109,832), state 0x0, keycode 100 (keysym 0xff51, Left), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False So I'm wondering a couple of things. 1. GTK+ pull-down menus not displayed

Greetings. Lately whenever I launch GTK+ applications over x2go, the pull-down menus are usually not displayed properly or at all. For example, if I launch the Xfce Terminal, I see the usual "File", "Edit", "View", "Terminal", "Tabs", and "Help" labels in the pull-down menu bar. If I click on these, they become underlined as though they are active, but the corresponding pull-down menu doesn't (usually) appear. Instead, a single pixel in the upper left corner of my desktop turns white. The only exception is when I click on "Help" -- the first time I do this, I do get a pull-down menu, but it's attached to the upper left corner of my desktop, not to the "Help" label in the Terminal window. The menu is very small, though, and I need to scroll through it to see all the entries. The second or subquent times I try to view the "Help" menu, I just get a single pixel. Similar behaviour is observed in most other GTK+2 and GTK+3 applications, such as the GNOME Terminal and the GNOME Character Map. The problem is reproducible when launhcing LibreOffice with SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gtk2 or SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gtk3, but not with SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=kde4 or SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen. Dear x2goers I've got an installation where users authenticate against an windows 2008 ad. Unfortunately they have non posix user names starting with a number (e.g. 16xxxyyy). My installation works via ssh and direct login on the machine not via x2go though. Anybody found a solution for this problem? Thanks in advance. Ueli

XFCE terminates immediately when user is already logged in on Debian unstable

Dear list, since one of my last updates to my Debian systems x2go behaves differently: XFCE is my primary window manager. When a user is already logged in locally to a XFCE session it is not possible to login to the same system using the XFCE session type in x2goclient. These are the log messages I can see in the x2goclient log area: 8<================= ... Info: Forwarding X11 connections to display ':0.0'. Session: Session started at 'Sat Dec 17 21:19:46 2016'. Info: Established X server connection. Info: Using shared memory parameters 0/0K. 8<================= Shortly, a black window pops up, immediately closes and this is what is then appended to the x2goclient log area: 8<================= Session: Terminating session at 'Sat Dec 17 21:19:48 2016'. Session: Session terminated at 'Sat Dec 17 21:19:48 2016'. 8<================= Using x2go works like a charm with the XFCE session type in case the user is not logged in locally. How to Flush DNS Cache

X2Go appears to be caching DNS data. I changed the IP address on a remote host. From my workstation I can type: ssh (hostname) And connect and login just fine, but when I try to connect using X2Go it is trying to connect to the old IP address instead. I tried deleting the session and re-creating it, it STILL tries to connect to the old address even though ssh properly connects to the new. Dear x2go users, I find that if I have chromium running in the server, any attempt to open chromium in the x2go client session will result in a new window of the browser been opened in the server. Does anybody now how can avoid this? server side: ubuntu 16.04, x2go 4.0.1.20 client side: windows 10, x2go 4.0.5.1 (Qt 4.8.6) .Jose

Hi, When I try to run wireshark within an x2go session I get this error: *failed to get the current screen resourcesThe X11 connection broke: I/O error (code 1)XIO: fatal IO error 2 (No such file or directory) on X server ":50.0" after 383 requests (383 known processed) with 0 events remaining.* I can run Wireshark directly on the console or remotely using ssh forwarding, but not under x2go. Num Lock key in windows agent

Hi all. First of all, I'd like to congratulate all the contributors for this great work. X2go is a professional class tool for remote desktop. However... I ran into a really special thing using the windows agent in its last version (4.0.5). Sometimes, when you open the session, the "Num Lock" is usable, sometimes not. I mean, sometimes you may push the caps lock button and switch from arrows to Numeric keys, and sometimes the Key Pad is fully unusable. It happens only on windows agent as far as I know. Hi, I have no experience with x2go but it seems to be a good fit to implement a remote development environment. Does anyone here have experience with such a setup? (Read below for more details) I need to set up a remote development environment to be used by multiple employees of a company. The goal is to let employees work in their prefered environment. As users might need to have root access, I might go with one vm per user. That would effectively move the desktop system of the user to the 'cloud', which would be access through x2go. That way every dev can use the editor (s)he wants, compile on its vm, install packages, etc... Would that be a workable approach? Which attention points would you highlight? If anyone has experience with this kind of setups, I'm very interested in getting your advices and opinions! Thanks in advance rb

Issues with resuming session

Trying to move from NoMachine as new server is virtual and I'm having some issues with some programmes not resuming with correct colours. Client : 4.0.5.2 (Qt 4.8.6) Windows 7 32 bit Server info - OpenSuse 13.2 KDE 4 On intial startup it works fine. It would be good if it would, like NoMachine, always use the 4:3 moitor if attached whether 1st or 2nd display device. But I set it to use display 2 for testing. Session starts full screen as expected and I can background the screen and bring back to front. On resume : If I use the internal X server a window open then crashes. If I use the latest build of vcsvr it will start up but in a small window and this doesn't resize or rather the window resizes but the display doesn't. I move to larger monitor and the display only takes up half height. Adding old style fonts to X server?

I use x2go frequently between my fedora linux system at work and my near identical fedora linux system at home. When using X directly on both systems I get a font path like: Font Path: catalogue:/etc/X11/fontpath.d,built-ins And the /etc/X11/fontpath.d directory has lots of symlinks to various font directories (with most of the same fonts installed on both systems). When using x2go, I see the font path is much stupider. Including explicit paths to just the misc, 100dpi, and 75dpi font directories. What the heck is the bast way to fix this so old X programs will see all the same fonts I get when I run native? Can I do something like edit /etc/x2go/x2goagent.options and add -fp catalogue:/etc/X11/fontpath.d,built-ins as an option? (On both source and target systems).

Clipboard and virt-viewer?

On my native fedora box, if I'm looking at a virtual machine display in virt-viewer, I can use cut&paste to do something like copy the current URL from a web browser running on the host machine, and paste it into a web browser running inside in virtual machine in the virt-viewer display. If I'm connected to the same fedora box remotely via x2go, and I then display a virtual machine inside that remote x2go session, the cut&paste from fedora to virt-viewer doesn't work. Any idea what is going on here and how to make it work?

terminating suspended sessions

After some time unclosed sessions fill all the memory on the server. It is hard to discipline users to always close sessions -they just close the client instead. Segfault on some applications

I just upgraded Ubuntu from 14 to 16.04, and I really regret it now. Many things now don't work within X2go. I've completely lost KDE, which I see is a known issue, but for some reason now Firefox and many other applications don't work. I even tried gnome-calculator and it doesn't work now, but LibreOffice does. I'm not sure if it's because of the graphical toolset used or not. The most important app not working for us is Eclipse.
