Keyboard mapping issue with Mac client and Linux server

I'm using the Mac client (version X2Go Client v. 4.1.1.0 (Qt - 4.8.7) And Server is RHEL 7.4 x2goserver-4.0.1.20-1.el7.x86_64 x2goagent-3.5.0.32-3.el7.x86_64 Keyboard mapping is wrong. I've tried KDE and XFCE - same issue. Any tips? Thank you. - Kevin

KDE5 neon success/want to suspend session

Hi all, first message to the list. First all, I'd like to report success in connecting to a KDE5 Plasma 5.11.5 session running on KDE neon User Edition. I've not touched the server configuration. My client is a 2017 MacBook Pro running the latest X2go client v4.1.1.1 (Qt 4.8.7) and XQuartz 2.7.11. It works pretty well. It runs at fullscreen, 72DPI by default. The fonts are a little tiny. It's a little bit laggy, but it's a development/mediaserver machine in my basement. Just wanted to report the success. One question I've been unable to find a (current) response to is this: is there a way I can suspend my x2go connection rather than logging in from scratch each time? I've got some apps I'd like to leave running on the KDE machine when I'm not connected. I've seen references to a command like "x2gosuspend_session" or something similar, and tried it. I still started from basic login. Even the "pause" button in the OSX client restarts the session. My apps reopen, but my all my Firefox tabs have closed and my terminal windows are blank. Any suggestions?

Ubuntu Nightly Builds Server Problem

After installing updates today Ubuntu 17.10 server with x2gonightly builds now will not allow me to connect. When I try I get a pop-up that says: Connection failed. /usr/lib/x2go/x2gogetrandomport: line 106: get_random_port: command not found Unable to get (pseudo-) randomized starting port value. colors of qt5 apps wrong?

I've recently seen problems where colors are totally wrong on some apps. First it was matplotlib. Now I see it on tortoisehg. Both I believe are QT5. Any ideas?

Now x2go clients get an empty list for published applications. Switching workspaces

Hi, New x2go user. Wow! And thanks! Both my server and client are running x2go 4.1.1.0 and both are 64 bit LinuxMint/MATE. I have two monitors on the client. Mostly, everything works great except I have two problems: 1. When I chose full screen with Xinerama extension it comes up exactly the way I want on both screens. The problem is, I want to be able to switch workspaces on the client host but every time I do it changes workspaces on the client client instead. I tried remapping the Ctl-Alt left and right on the client client, but that didn't matter. How can I switch workspaces on the client host? 2. If I select "Use whole display" (1 or 2), I only get the upper left 25% instead of the entire screen 1 or 2. (This used to work in 4.0.1.1 but I had other problems with that). I really appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks! Blake McBride

Lightdm invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1

Hi there, I have a problem with a machine that rebooted due to power outage. Debian, lightdm, XFCE. If I want to use the X2go, I need to login locally in lightdm on the server first - if I don't, I get an error of "invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1: keyxwininfo: error: unable to open display :0" when I try to login thru x2go remotely. Ubuntu 17.10 x2goserver

I removed the nightly build and went back to the main line x2goserver and this works except for the xrandr version issue. I still have to set the screen size manually with xrandr -s 1920x1080 but then I can use the entire desktop. New x2go broken on Ubuntu 17.10

Recent updates to x2go seriously broke it on Ubuntu 17.10. After the update, the first attempt to login resulted in giant fonts, giant terminal windows, giant everything. I went into System->Preferences->Look and Feel and then Fonts, then Advanced and found DPI had been set to 201, set that back to 96 and font size and terminals returned to normal, but I can't use the bottom half or approximately right third of my desktop now. -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- Eskimo North Linux Friendly Internet Access, Shell Accounts, and Hosting. Having a problem with connecting to remote desktop in Windows

Hello all, Getting this message while trying to connect to remote desktop: [image: Встроенное изображение 1] I press `Yes` button, but it cannot do anything and asks again this question. I suppose that this message is most probably because of ssh trying to save my machine as `known host` in configuration and not able to find appropriate path for saving the file, because I don't have any problem while connecting with linux machine.

Two servers - one adjusts resolution, the other does not?

Hi, I have two machines with x2go server. Both are "debian unstable", both are running XFCE, both have x2go-server 4.0.1.22. But one adjusts resolution according to the window size while the other does not. The server that *does* adjust adds new mode into xrandr mode tables, e.g. 1436x865: xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default Screen 0: minimum 320 x 240, current 1436 x 865, maximum 6400 x 1602 default connected 1436x865+0+0 0mm x 0mm 1920x1200 60.00 (....) 1920x1080 60.00 6400x1602 60.00 1436x865 60.00* may@Dell:~$ The other does not, it only lists modes that monitor can accept, the image is scaled to window size (super-ugly). Same goes for copy-paste - but I have same settings in X2go client for both. Any idea on what should I check? Thanks, May

Yes, this has been an issue for a long time, for csh-based shells anyway. http://lists.x2go.org/pipermail/x2go-user/2015-October/003550.html If you read through that thread, we did find a decent workaround – putting some logic in .cshrc to load the correct keyboard mapping. Darby

Mint Silvia Nightly

I am trying to install the nightly build on Mint Sylvia 18.3, but there is no 'sylvia' in the repo so I tried to install stretch. I've build the nx-libs and installed them without error but attempting to install x2go from stretch (18.1) on sylvia (18.3) results in: apt install x2goserver Reading package lists... x2go client seg fault

My x2go client will stay connected for a while, then crash. I have an ssh connection open to the same box and it stays up, as does an RDP session, so I'm thinking internet connection problems are not an issue. Client connection not possible

Hi, I reinstalled a machine (SLES 11 SP3) and used the repo http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/RemoteDesktop:/x2go/SLE_11/ for installing x2go. When I try to connect a session seems to be started, but is closed immediately. There is no helpful log in the moment (see below). Any idea how to check the setup ? On another machine I can connect without any problems ... I have currently no idea what might be the problem ...?!?!? Any idea ? "The remote proxy closed the connection while negotiating"

I keep getting this message from my x2goclient "The remote proxy closed the connection while negotiating the session. This may be due to the wrong authentication credentials passed to the server." I am shown the usual "Select session:" dialog box with columns display, status, command. And also the normal buttons suspend, terminate, new, resume, cancel. There is 1 session listed. I double click on it and get the error. But the password is correct. I can ssh into the session with no problems. I think this error occurs because I recently deleted x2go related directorys in /tmp or ~/ on the client machine. Is that possible? And if so could we make the error message more helpful? I have uninstalled and re-installed x2goclient including the ~/.x2go* dirs and it does not fix the problem. How to start a new session with x2goclient on background?

Hello, I found out that there are some commands provided by x2goclient commands such as `--hide` `--autostart` and etc. But I couldn't find any commands that will create a new session for me without making a user to type IP, PORT and USERNAME on GUI x2goclient. So in brief, I need the command something like "x2goclient --start --ip=192.168.11.12 --port=22 " to access remote x2goserver with given parameters. Is there any ways to handle it ?

Opening URLs on remote application

When I run applications (such as email and web browser) on two different remote machines using SSH X-Windows forwarding they can correctly open URLs in the other application. So clicking on a HTTP link in an email launches that URL in the browser. Clicking on a mailto link on a web page launches that in the email program. If there is a name for this process I don't know what it is. Firefox talks about it here. https://www-archive.mozilla.org/unix/remote.html X2go provides me with much better performance than standard X forwarding but the URL magic doesn't seem to work. The email program launches a browser on the machine it is running on rather than the existing browser. The browser does the same thing with mailto links. The firefox link seems to suggest this magic is done with the X toolkit, intrinsic properties, and actions. There is also the MIME database to look at, and I think D-Bus might be involved. If I can figure out how it works with X forwarding perhaps I could write a patch for X2go or write a wrapper script around it that makes that possible. Can you steer me in the right direction to understand this process and what x2go code I should look at? For reference I am running openSuSE 42.3 on an X86_64 machine with the KVM hypervisor. I am using an XFCE desktop. The "remote" machines are running on virtual machines under KVM on the same hardware. My email client is Evolution 3.12.11 running on one VM and my browser is Firefox 57 running on another. I have tried both the X2goclient 4.1.0 (which I guess is C) and pyhoca-gui 0.5.0 which should be python. Maybe there is a configuration option I need to use that I missed. I can't find anything in the documentation about this feature, although it would help if I had a name for this bit of magic. If this feature isn't already there I would be pleased to write, test and submit a patch. Thanks. Bill

If you have users on a CentOS6 platform and it is up to date, and they use the gnome desktop, you'll probably get a pop-up that says, "Authentication is required to set the network proxy used for downloading packages An application is attempting to perform an action that requires privleges. Authentication as the super user is required to perform this action". A fix per the Red Hat solutions site: "Add X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=false to the end of the /etc/xdg/autostart/gpk-update-icon.desktop file." Can't access X2go through router

Bill, could this be your problem? https://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/doc:faq:start Known Issues Can't login to x2goserver with an ECDSA key Currently, older versions of the ssh library used by X2Go called libssh are unable to work with ECDSA keys. However you may use an RSA key - if you need to - or go with the SSH default authenticating method using the remote user's password. SSH Login issue If you already use OpenSSH to get a shell on your x2go server, you may get this message when trying to connect with x2go: The host key for this server was not found but an othertype of key exists. An attacker might change the default server key to confuse your client into thinking the key does not exist This is related to the ECDSA host key (related to the previous FAQ entry - although there is a subtle difference between host and client keys.) To solve this issue, you can disable ECDSA keys on your OpenSSH server configuration, by commenting the following line in /etc/ssh/sshd_config file: #HostKey /etc/ssh/ssh_host_ecdsa_key Then restart the SSH service. Now you should not get the error message anymore.

Problem connecting

I've always had no problems connecting to x2go with only port 22 open on my router. Just recently I've been unable to connect. I turned on debugging and see my client connecting in the system logs: client X.X.X.X has successfully resumed session with ID paul-50-1511705558_stDXFCE_dp32 However, on the client I get an error that says "could not establish connection to remote proxy" I see this error repeating when I run the client with a --debug flag: 2go-DEBUG-../src/onmainwindow.cpp:10759> "Searching proxy window: X2GO-paul-50-1511705558_stDXFCE_dp32" x2go-DEBUG-../src/onmainwindow.cpp:12465> "Searching window with title: X2GO-paul-50-1511705558_stDXFCE_dp32" I'm not using a proxy for the internet. problems connecting to x2go server

I run a personal server with x2go and I've used it for years with no problem. I can currently ssh fine, but x2go does not work. I've tried removing .x2go from /tmp and /home/paul. I've recreated the user database: rm -f /var/lib/x2go/x2go_sessions x2godbadmin --createdb None of this has worked. Removing and reinstalling seem to work, but it's now back to the same error. I have turned up logging and everything seems to complete properly. When I run the client with a --debug flag I get this, with the final 2 lines repeating: Info: Proxy running in client mode with pid '22689'. Session: Starting session at 'Mon Nov 20 14:35:24 2017'. Hanging Session

Hello everybody, I've running X2Go (v4.0.1.20) on CentoOS6 and it works quite well. Last week I was out of office and I kept a session running on the "server". When I came back, I was not able to connect to session again. The client stucks after starting the connection, after >1/2h I killed the client. When I try to connect afterwards, I have to suspend the session 1st, then I can connect, but the client stucks again. On the server /var/log/messages is blown up by lot of this messages: Nov 17 09:18:32 lmesim138 /usr/bin/x2gosuspend-session: session with ID lmegast5-50-1507636342_stDGNOME_dp32 has been suspended successfully Nov 17 09:18:32 lmesim138 /usr/bin/x2gosuspend-session: session with ID lmegast5-50-1507636342_stDGNOME_dp32 has been suspended successfully Nov 17 09:18:42 lmesim138 /usr/bin/x2gosuspend-session: session with ID lmegast5-50-1507636342_stDGNOME_dp32 has been suspended successfully This message is added even if no client is trying to connect or disconnect. Taking a look on the open files (lsof) shows that the session log file in /tmp has been deleted meanwhile: /tmp/.x2go-lmegast5/C-lmegast5-50-1507636342_stDGNOME_dp32/session.log (deleted) (background: "old" files in /tmp are deleted automatically after 3 weeks of beeing not used/touched) I assume thats the reason why I cannot connect to the session again. Do you have an idea how I might make the session working again or overcome the problem in general? (I sometimes have simulations running for a longer time and the result/evaluation will be done and shown within this session) Best regards, Markus

Why does x2goserver on CentOS6 require vim? I delete vim and install nvi because I detest the former and prefer the latter. Segfault with rstudio and x2goclient on Fedora 26

I have a few installations of rstudio https://www.rstudio.com/products/rstudio/download/#download running on Fedora 26, Centos 7.4 and Red Hat Enterprise 7.4 x2go server: x2goserver-4.0.1.20-2.fc26.x86_64 x2goserver-4.0.1.20-1.el7.x86_64 With the these two x2goclient on Fedora 26: x2goclient-4.1.0.0-1.fc26.x86_64 x2goclient-4.1.1.0-1.fc26.x86_64 rstudio will segfault on startup. Any other x2goclient I've tried, 4.1.0 on Windows and 4.0.5 on Mac, rstudio works no problem. Also doing "ssh -Y" to the hosts running x2goserver, rstudio starts with no problem. rstudio has worked in the past (maybe several months ago). Perhaps I was using Fedora 25 then. So I'm guessing that it's something to do with the x2goclient on Fedora 26. Any ideas? Hi, last Thursday after an automatic update of the x2go-server our clients didn't receive any more answer from the server. We had to switch to vnc to get our workstations connected again. Upcoming Package Repository Downtime

Hi I will be releasing new stable versions of nx-libs and x2goserver soon. Due to some file moves between packages, these releases must happen in lock-step (or more specifically the binary packages built from these releases be available at the same time). In order to not potentially break user systems, I will disable access to the package repositories on the UTC days of - Wed November 8, 2017 - Fri November 10, 2017 (rain date) for an unspecified amount of time. If you experience problems accessing the package repositories on these days, rest assured that this behavior is intentional. The repositories will be available once new binary packages for these new releases are available. Hello, I have two problems with two IDEs. 1) For R programming I use Rstudio.I am starting mate-terminal via x2go, and then execute rstudio remotely. It displays well, apart from the fact that pull-down menus are not displayed. They got highlightedwhen clicked, but nothing more. This is the only program which has this issue that I am aware of. Hello. I'm using a x2go server on CentOS 6.9 (the latest version from EPEL, 4.0.1.20), clients use Windows XP/7 and the latest version of X2Go Client (4.1.0.0-2017.03.11). Each time the client connects, ssh-keygen.exe (C:\Program Files\x2goclient\ssh-keygen.exe) starts with the parameters "-t rsa -b 4096 -N" "-C" X2Go Client RSA user key "-f C: /Users/max/.x2go/ssh/gen/key.fl1416 ". On not very powerful computers, this causes a delay of a few seconds with each connection and irritates users. Tell me please, if it is possible to generate this key once and for all? -- M. Can't access X2go through router

When I use the same from linux on the LAN, I get in OK. It's only when i've tried to port forward 2249 -> 22 from the WAN that it fails with this message from either client. Even stranger, if I SSH in from the WAN on port 2249 I get in OK. So the usual suggestions of regenerating keys etc don't seem to help, even though I did that anyway. Server I'm trying to access is Ubuntu 16.04.3 root@mojo:~# x2goversionx2goagent: 3.5.0.32x2goserver: 4.0.1.20x2goserver-extensions: 4.0.1.20x2goserver-xsession: 4.0.1.20root@mojo:~# Linux and Win clients are 4.1.0.0 Here's the last twist - this is a VM. I have also port forwarded 22 to 22 on the host, which is Fedora 26 and the main server actually running these VMs (KVM), and that lets me in via X2Go no problem. So the router itself can work if it's not going to a VM. I also tried disabling the firewall on the VM but still got no joy. At that point I knew I was plumb out of ideas so came here ;-) Thanks.

When I log in as a user, the keyboard mapping is good. But when I log in root, the arrow keys are not good : up doesn't show anything, down acts like return, and the pipe key does not show anything. I upgraded Mint from Serina to Sonya 18.2 and now with x2go I am getting the tiny 680x800 screen related to xrandr version being 1.2 where 1.3 or later is needed. I installed the nightly build which has corrected this problem on other distributions but it did not fix it in mint. When I create a new session I see on my laptop both physical monitors from the server, divided vertically and of course blurred. This is not usable. X2Go and a complex command

I'm having some issue with a session command. I'm trying to launch x2go and have it run xterm -e 'qrsh -q interactive.q -pe sge_pe 1 -l m_core=1 /nfs/opt/ImageJ/ImageJ' This command works when run manually, and other commands like xterm -e 'qrsh -q interactive.q -pe sge_pe 1 -l m_core=1 matlab -desktop' work also. I get an error from x2go saying Connection Failed bash: -c: line 0: unexpected EOF while looking for matching `" bash: -c: line1: syntax error: unexpected end of file I got this with 4.0.2.0 with sh substituted for bash above, then tried 4.1.0.0 on Windows 7 x64. Two problems: Right click delayed and audio not working

Both of these problems appeared a few days ago in what used to be a functioning X2go client/server. The server is CentOS 7, x2goserver-4.0.1.20, the client is Fedora 25, x2goclient-4.1.0.0. Previously, when I started a KDE session, the startup music would play and I was able to play sound files and have the audio on the client. Now this does not work. Running mplayer gives messages saying that it failed to initialize audio driver pulse. When I right-click on a button in email or on a web page to display a menu, the application hangs for maybe 20 seconds before the menu appears. A left-click on a menu item also has a long delay. This happens with both Thunderbird and Firefox. I can run Thunderbird remotely using "ssh -X" and none of this behavior occurs. One odd thing is that this was happening a couple weeks ago and then disappeared. I don't know what caused the problem before or what changed to cure it. Firefox Browser Performance via X2Go - and a call for help on behalf of X2Go and Pale Moon

[crossposting this to x2go-dev/x2go-user; please reply to x2go-dev only] Hi $LIST, there have been numerous complaints in the past about Firefox' lack of performance when used in an X2Go session, especially over WAN connections. During some extensive testing and comparison of browser engines, we discovered that setting the following three values in about:config bring some improvement to current Firefox versions: gfx.xrender.enabled (boolean) true gfx.canvas.azure.backends (string) cairo gfx.content.azure.backends (string) cairo Note that xrender support is going away soon. What we also discovered is that the KDE3-fork Trinity <https://www.trinitydesktop.org/> brings a Konqueror browser version that performs way better than Firefox, even with the above three parameters enabled. Next, we discovered an actively maintained fork of Firefox 28 - named Pale Moon <https://www.palemoon.org/>. This gives comparable performance to Trinity-Konqueror, with the advantage of being way closer to Firefox in both UI design and codebase, so pages that work fine in Firefox should work fine in Pale Moon as well - something I wouldn't want to take for granted with Trinity-Konqueror. The one person I talked to in particular, Matt A. Tobin, suggested that the drop in performance came with the drop of support for GTK2. The Pale Moon developers would be interested in keeping GTK2 support even in their new core component, but would need some cash and especially some additional manpower in the form of skilled coders. So this is a call for help: - If you're a company that uses X2Go and is interested in supporting Pale Moon development, either financially or by assigning your own coders to the project, please let me know. - If you're a professional coder interested in working on Pale Moon as long as you get paid for it, please let me know. - If you're a volunteer coder that wants to work on Pale Moon just for the greater good of all, please let me know too. -> I will be coordinating all efforts from the X2Go side of things. New guy, new OBS repo and some issues

Hello everybody, after noticing this wonderful project, I started with a new openSUSE Build Service repo for x2go today: https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/home:frispete:RemoteDesktop:x2go since RemoteDesktop:x2go is somewhat orphaned and suffers from serious bit rot in some auxiliary packages. While at it, I've updated x2goclient to 4.1.0.1 already, and plan to update the other packages, that saw new releases, soon. Being a heavy remote user of all kinds (ssh, vnc, rdp), this project is a perfect fit. I never got NX to cooperate nicely, but always thought, that the basic concepts are sound. Anyway, I was able to install the x2goserver and x2goplasmabindings packages on a remote system (Leap 42.3 Virtualbox VM on a 42.3 host), and successfully connect to it with the x2goclient package, reaching out a nice and fresh KDE desktop. So far for the good news. After login, powerdevil crashes with signal 6 (related to non existing DimDisplay action). This in turn results in a drkonqi crash (sig 11). Probably related to these, the X2Go PLasma Bindings failed to remove the shut down and reboot actions in the K menu. Immediately logging out results in a ksmserver crash, that effectively prevents a successful log out, hence the session can only be terminated the hard way from the X2Go client UI. Parallel ssh sessions to the server appear locked at some point (not immediately after login, but somewhat later on). There are some konsole related issues, resulting in a delay by 1 to 6 seconds from any pressed key. Interestingly, xterm doesn't suffer from this behaviour. Are these effects known already? Any ideas/mitigations/workarounds? The "unboxing" experience is very nice already. The performance is great. Filing these issues as bugs starts with the question, what package they relate to? Are you guys still using a patched libssh package? Thanks in advance. Cheers, Pete

Ubuntu pulseaudio configuration

Greetings I am using X2GO to access and Ubuntu 17 server running Mate. I am having mixed success with the redirected audio to the client (which is running pulseaudio). I can aplay soundfile.wav and it successfully plays on the client. However, pavucontrol on the server core dumps, and any application other than aplay (eg mpg123) fails to send the audio (with no error reported at the server end). I wonder if anyone could advise on the correct Ubuntu pulseaudio configuration.... or has experienced this strange partly-working situation? With grateful thanks, Jamie

X2goClient with SSH key

Hello, I follow this tutoriel https://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/wiki:advanced:authentication:passwordless-ssh but it does not work. I'm on Ubunut 16.04.3 LTS with kernel 4.4.0-97-generic. When I make a ssh user(a)my.server.com it's ok, I reach my server and connect immediatly. But when I use X2GoClient then I have a message : "Connection refused". I put the path of my private key on the field path for the sessions. I don't understand. Where did I miss a step?
