ubuntu/debian - found reason for login failures that display error msg: "Access denied. Authentication that can continue: publickey, keyboard-interactive"

In the past I and others have had no problem with x2go client logins to Ubuntu/Debian x2goservers. However, sometime n the past year or two of Ubuntu & Debian OS updates something changed which caused the normal x2goclient session profile that requires the UserID -and- Password to be entered would fail giving an error message on the client that says: *Access denied. Authentication that can continue: publickey,keyboard-interactive* I finally found out the reason for this change in behavior and here's how to fix it. Get a terminal session with your x2goserver and edit */etc/ssh/sshd_config* *sudo nano /etc/ssh/sshd_config* in /etc/ssh/sshd_config (example was copied from Ubuntu 12.04) you will see the following entries: *# Change to yes to enable challenge-response passwords (beware issues with # some PAM modules and threads) ChallengeResponseAuthenticatio**n yes # Change to no to disable tunnelled clear text passwords PasswordAuthentication no* To fix this CHANGE *PasswordAuthentication* to "*yes*" and save the file and restart ssh *sudo /etc/init.d/ssh restart* *REASON for the failure & change of behavior from previous/older versions of Ubuntu.* I installed several older versions of Ubuntu going back to Ubuntu 9.10 and found that the installations of the Ubuntu Server changed the content of the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file! In older systems the entry for PasswordAuthentication either said: *# Change to no to disable tunnelled clear text passwords # PasswordAuthentication no* where the PasswordAuthentication line *was commented out* ... which then defaulted it to "YES" *-or-* the Password Authentication line was actually uncommented BUT set to "YES" *# Change to no to disable tunnelled clear text passwords PasswordAuthentication yes* So those older OS versions and x2go *would work* using login ID's and Passwords. Sometime during one of the Ubuntu 11.x releases the PasswordAuthentication entry was actually changed to "no" as is the case in Ubuntu 12.04 servers and the line was left not commented out so it was active... *# Change to no to disable tunnelled clear text passwords PasswordAuthentication no * That is what caused the failure of x2go logins using passwords and would present the user with that error message: *Access denied. Authentication that can continue: publickey,keyboard-interactive* I've made this change now and no longer see the problem on my servers so I wanted to share this info. Brian

ubuntu 12.04 beta 2 - gnomebindings install fails due to dependency problem

I also noticed in Ubuntu 12.04 beta 2 that the x2go gnomebindings does not install fully. The only error message I see is that there are unmet dependencies.

Background... For some time now I've been trying to get x2go client/server working ubuntu 12.04 beta 2. But I am consistently getting failed x2go session starts. Brand new client install of Ubuntu 12.04 desktop: - sudo add-apt-repository ppa:x2go/stable - sudo apt-get update - sudo apt-get install x2goclient Brand new Ubuntu 12.04 server with ubuntu-desktop installed - sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop - sudo add-apt-repository ppa:x2go/stable - sudo apt-get update - sudo apt-get install x2goserver On client: I start x2goclient and set Session type to Gnome I start the session and everything looks normal as I see my x2goclient display "running" then it just returns "Finished" and no real remote desktop session ever gets started. I enabled x2goserver debugging and the output is below. help: Windows X2GO Client authenticating with ssh key

Hello x2goclient.exe crashes every time during connect if ssh key is used for authentication . Pageant from putty is running as an agent with a key. Logging with putty works while using ssh key, but x2goclient crashes. I have also tried "Use RSA/DSA..." file without password - no luck . Please help to find out the way how to get it work ! Are there some requirements for ssh agent or key size or ... ? Regards Ramūnas

Client for PowerPC Macs ?

Is there a client that runs on PowerPC Macs with 10.4 "Tiger" installed ? I tried to install the latest 3.99 Mac client on an older G4 with "Tiger" installed, but the system complains that the software can not run on this computer (X11 is installed). Tried to download the older "Pre-GIT" image, but the image that was zipped seems to be corrupt: MacOS unzips the file, but fails to mount the resulting .dmg. thanks for any help, Mark

Ubuntu Unity errors (11.10 and 12.04 beta 1)

Hello there people I'm using x2go, and so far i'm loving it. there is one thing, though, that iffs me. When i'm using unity on ubuntu, the top global menu bar dosnt work like it does locally. On my local install, i can click the menu items, no problem. On the x2go session, i need to click and hold down the mouse button before i can use the menus, "letting go" when i activate a menu entry. Hello, if i connect my X2GoClient (V.3.99.1.1) on my Win7 Client with my X2GoServer (3.1.1.1-1) on my Ubuntu-Server for a few minutes. After some time I get no sound on my X2GoClient. If I try to look on the System Soundconfiguration I got the Error-Message that the Systems waits for the audio-System. Please excuse my bad english - but I am not a native speaker. Thanke you! Tony

next x2goclient release / translation work in progress

Hi All, first... just for the record, on the x2go-i18n list we are currently discussing pulling the original English text phrases in X2Go Client code straight. I'd say that the next X2Go Client release will be delayed, till the English phrases have been updated. Unfortunately, this also means extra work of all translators, once the English originals have been fixed/updated. secone... our current goal for the next release... The current goal for x2goclient 3.99.2.1 is that these languages will be available (with complete translation): German Swedish Norwegian (Bokmal) Russian Translations in prep are: French Translations available, but not complete, are: Trad. Chinese (PING@Arlo) As we have Dutch and Spanish for PyHoca-GUI, but not for X2Go Client... Are those translators willing to take over translation work for X2Go Client, as well??? Or anyone else? plugin.x2go.org does not work, where to get x2goplugin ?

Hello I tried to test x2goplugin (Firefox plugin) and used instructions on http://www.x2go.org/doku.php/wiki:components:x2goplugin?s[]=plugin I have build website saying "This website will offer you a plugin named ..." but it does not work. Unfortunately, the following URLs do not work: http://www.x2go.org/doku.php/wiki:components:x2goplugin-example http://plugin.x2go.org/download/x2goplugin_linux32.xpi http://plugin.x2go.org/media/x2goplugin.js Can you help me to find x2goplugin_linux32.xpi and x2goplugin.js ?
