Bug#525: x2goclient.exe shows "arrow and hourglass" cursor for 5 seconds during startup

Package: x2goclient Version: 4.0.2.1-pre01 Hi, x2goclient for Windows up to 4.0.0.3 used to look "frozen" for a fraction of a second during startup. With 4.0.2.0, that annoying effect was suddenly gone, possibly due to the change to the new pulseaudio version. It is also not present in the nightlies up until 2014-06-11. 4.0.2.1-pre01 now exhibits a similar, slightly annoying behavior: When run by double-click from a folder view, it displays an "arrow and hourglass" cursor on Windows 7 x64 for approximately 5 seconds during startup. It does not happen when the same x2goclient.exe is run from the commandline. There, response is instantaneous like in 4.0.2.0 and in the nightlies up to 2014-06-11. I have no explanation for that effect, but maybe one of our devs can shed some light on this? -Stefan

EPEL-7 nightly builds...

Hi all, I have for now disbabled our (regularly failing) nightly builds of X2Go development snapshot packages for upcoming RHEL7 with EPEL-7 support. The people at Redhat seem to change repo URLs more often than other people change their socks. Thus, let's wait for the new RHEL7 release to consolidate more... Bug#374: Setting keyboard layout in x2gothinclient

Package: x2gothinclientmanagement Version: 1.1.0.1 Severity: wishlist After running x2gothinclient_create, the created chroot environment will default to US keyboard layout. Bug#457: Fwd: polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1 fails to start on specific distros

Package: x2goserver Version: 4.0.1.13 Notes: 1. I am not sure if this is a bug in x2goserver, x2goserver-xsession, or in nx-libs. 2. This bug is probably in X2Go's integration with ConsoleKit (or lack thereof.) PolicyKit depends on ConsoleKit (and on systemd-logind in newer distros.) 3. RHEL7 beta (systemd-logind) is not affected and pkexec commands do work. However, PolicyKit authentication within apps fails. I will file a separate bug about this. 4. I also tested Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS 32-bit (ConsoleKit) with Unity and with MATE 1.6. On that distro, polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1 (Unity) & polkit-mate-authentication-agent-1 do start, but pkexec commands fail for another reason (the app complains that it cannot open the display.) A simple workaround for this case is to export XAUTHORITY 1st, I will file a separate bug about this. 5. polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1 is started as gdm, but it should be started as the user also. Bug#459: PolicyKit authentication within apps often fails

Package: x2goserver Version: 4.0.1.13 Notes: 1. I am not sure if this is a bug in x2goserver, x2goserver-xsession, or in nx-libs. 2. PolicyKit depends on ConsoleKit (and on systemd-logind in newer distros.) 3. The behavior seems to be distro-specific and/or app-specific. 4. This bug report differs from 458 because PolicyKit authentication is being called within an app, not when launching the app. This is part of the PolilcyKit architecture: The apps run unprivileged and rely on PolicyKit in order to speak to privileged processes that do the actual task. For example, in test case 2, gpk-application is launched unprivileged. It uses PolicyKit to speak to the PackageKit backend, and the PackageKit backend does the package install. Test system: Fedora 20 64-bit MATE Desktop 1.6.2.1.fc20 - used for all 3 test cases x2goserver 4.0.1.13.2.fc20 x2goserver-xsession 4.0.1.13.2.fc20 nxlibs 3.5.0.22.1-fc20 (This distro uses logind) (/usr/libexec/polkit-mate-authentication-agent-1 is launched automatically when I login over X2Go. This distro is not affected by bug 457) Test Case 1: Steps: 1. Launch yumex (from start menu or from console) 2. Switch to the yumex's "history" tab on the left.. Expected result: A policykit authentication window opens up, I select a user to authenticate as (myself or root), enter my password, and then the history is populated within yumex. Instead, I get an error message windows. When I click "Close" on the window, yumex closes. Launch gpk-application (GNOME "Software Install" AKA "Add/Remove Software") 2. Select to install a single package. 3. Click "Apply Changes" Expected result: A policykit authentication window opens up, I select a user to authenticate as (myself or root), enter my password, and then the package is downloaded & installed (over the course of at least a few seconds), during which a progress bar is displayed. Screenshot: http://imgur.com/lLNof08 Actual result: The authentication window does not open up. The progress bar for the install completes in about 1 second. The package is not installed. (Interestingly enough, the package is still selected to be installed, but the "Apply Changes" and "cancel" button are hidden. This is a bug in gpk-application, it does not know how to handle policykit having an error. But this gpk-application bug is besides the point.) Launch virt-manager (AKA "Virtual Machine Manager") This test case actually passes! Expected & Actual result: A policykit authentication window opens up, I select a user to authenticate as (e.g., myself or root), enter my password, and then I am connected to the local libvirtd instance and see the VMs running. However, CentOS 6.5 64-bit is affected by bug 457, so that precludes running this test case.

Bug#511: Cannot resume session, automatically suspends after connecting

I encountered the same problem, characterised by: 1. Warning about fonts in the log. 2. Session resumes briefly but then automatically suspends after about 1 second. 3. Log messages in ~/x2go/*/session.log as follows: --- nxagentReconnectFailedFonts: WARNING! Font server tunneling not retrieved. nxagentReconnect: WARNING! Unable to retrieve all the fonts currently in use. Mi ssing fonts have been replaced. nxagentSighupHandler: WARNING! Ignoring the signal in state [SESSION_GOING_UP]. keyboard file created Session: Session resumed at 'Tue Jul 29 17:10:00 2014'. Info: Screen [0] resized to geometry [1920x1200] fullscreen [0]. Session: Suspending session at 'Tue Jul 29 17:10:03 2014'. Info: Waiting the cleanup timeout to complete. Session: Session suspended at 'Tue Jul 29 17:10:03 2014'. --- The cause of the problem was indeed that some fonts were missing on the client (a gentoo system). I simply installed all the font packages I could find one at a time until the problem went away. In my opinion, the x2go client is not capable of running with missing fonts, despite the message indicating that missing fonts will be replaced. I think this may be a bug. Tested with x2goserver version 4.0.1.15 and x2goclient version 4.0.2.0.

Bug#547: Alex's fix in x2goserver

I can confirm that Alex's commit to x2goserver (rather than x2goclient) fixes this bug. bf318affee905cf7cdeaa5a248dfd07bc46a8a96 Clean user SSHD process if connection between server and client lost. And should we cherry-pick it for x2goserver release/4.0.0.x & release/4.0.1.x? We should probably release updated versions of 4.0.0.x (baikal) and 4.0.1.x at least a month before we release x2goclient 4.0.3.0. Otherwise, people will run into this bug if they update their clients to 4.0.3.0 but do not update their servers. -Mike#2

Bug#559: x2goclient: the local user name that is passed to x2gomountdirs command needs to be enclosed in quotation marks

Package: x2goclient Version: 4.0.2.1+hotfix1 In startX2goMount(), the local user name (cuser) is passed as the third argument to the x2gomountdirs command that will be executed on the server side. This user name should be enclosed in quotation marks, otherwise the x2gomountdirs on server side fails for users who are unfortunate enough to have put a whitespace character in their Windows user name.
