SOLVED: keyboard freezes with X2go thin clients

Hi all, hi eps. Heinz, with some gCards you can observe Xorg/kbd freezes on X2go thin clients (I had a discussion with Heinz about that lately on the phone). I have found a solution for this: use kernel boot option ,,nomodeset''. The freeze is actually a graphical freeze and a result of interference between console fb and Xorg. The latest X2go TCE packages have this boot option set by default. x2goclient and ssh-agent

Hello, is there a way to use x2goclient with ssh-agent(1)? i am using ssh-agent with my etoken to login via nxclient on some machines. is this possible with x2goclient? i've started x2goclient from the same shell where a ssh login to the remote server worked with agent auth. but x2goclient seems not to use the running ssh-agent. thanks for any help. heiko

nice, ionice with x2go?

Has anyone experimented with 'nice' or 'ionice' to improve x2go responsiveness? If so, what x2go processes might benefit? The linux server that I am running x2goserver on sometimes has high loads, both CPU and disk IO. However, there should be plenty of resources left, since never are all of the CPU cores maxed out, and the root filesystem is running on a fast SSD. Nevertheless, sometimes x2go responsivity will go to almost nothing for a few seconds. So, I was thinking to try x2go with 'nice -n -10' and 'ionice -c 2 -n 0' or even 'ionice -c 1', but I am not sure how to go about that. Does there exist anywhere a short description of the jobs that x2go starts when it is invoked, and what each does? Currently I see: x2gocleansessions (root, PPID 0) x2goagent (user, PPID 1) x2goruncommand (user, PPID 0) ssh (.x2go) (user, PPID 0) sshfs (.x2go) (user, PPID 0) but I am not sure which are important to responsivity, and which scripts started which processes (so I can edit the scripts to insert 'nice' commands).

Fedora issues

Hi, I struggled mightily to get the git versions of x2goclient and x2goserver to work on two Fedora 15 machines today, and finally succeeded. Along the way I ran into a bunch of problems - here are some that I remember: 1. Out of date or missing information on the wiki - known problem, and I guess I can help with this at least. 2. The way the nxcomp Makefile installs symbolic links causes a subtle "permission denied" problem if SELinux is enforcing. The "install" command installs libraries with the correct SELinux context; the "cp -a" command does not install symbolic links with the correct context. (I do not know whether rpmbuild automatically fixes such problems; if it does, then this would only be a problem for installs from tarballs.) 3. For some reason (I could not figure out why), the automatically-generated password was not inserted into the file ~/.x2go/sqlpass. That file was empty. I worked around this by manually resetting the password to another random password and putting the password in that file. 4. In x2gostartagent, X2GO_LIB does not seem to be set anywhere. So I added a line to set it. 5. The Makefile of nxcomp installs the libraries into /usr/local/lib, not /usr/lib/x2go, by default. So I added /usr/local/lib to LD_LIBRARY_PATH in x2gostartagent. 6. This is not an x2go bug, but Fedora has a very annoying problem that xauth keeps printing the message: xauth: /home/greenrd/.Xauthority not writable, changes will be ignored I do not know what causes this, or what its significance is. I workaround it by doing: rm ~/.Xauthority* 7. It is necessary to set the hostname in /etc/hosts, or xauth will complain that the display is invalid. Strangely, the Fedora installation CD neglects to do this! 8. At least one key, the left arrow key, doesn't work if you tell x2goclient to keep the same keyboard layout - I had to tell it my keyboard layout. -- Robin Green

x2go thin client environment connecting to server on internet?

Hello there. I am currently looking at a solution for a school, and ideally, it would be using a small image distributed via PXE, wich contains x2go. This client would then connect to a cloud server. The wiki says that the TCE is not meant to be used for internet connections, yet it also states that the pxe server and x2go server should be kept separate. Would this work, or do i need another approach? My plan was to build the PXE image on a testing server, and put it on a Cisco ASA for distributing.

Hi all, for Debian squeeze (no Ubuntu yet, sorry) a new possible X2go Thin Client environment is ready for testing. At the beginning Morty and later on I have tried to simplify and automize many of the installation steps that formerly (Debian lenny) had to be done manually.
