Bug report: Session gets stuck after X server crash on client

Today my X server on my client machine crashed for an unknown reason, and after that I was unable to reconnect to the X2go session that I had been trying to reconnect to at the time of the crash. Until, that is, I spotted an errant ssh process and killed it. After that, I could reconnect again. Conclusion: x2goclient should always ensure that its child ssh processes will die as soon as it is killed. If the git repo appears as promised, I might fix this myself. Regards, -- Robin

I am actually struggling with the exact scenario as Ivan is involved with here. Unfortunately, I'm not quite to where you are yet, so according to you more troubles loom on the horizon re: audio. We are trying to use x2go with Likewise Open connected to our corporate Active Directory and based upon your suggestion here, I've changed the id of the local group x2gousers to my LDAP group ID for x2gousers group in our corporate groups, in /etc/group and now my users in my LDAP group are able to authenticate successfully. However, when connecting as an LDAP user via Likewise, I only get a blank/black screen upon session start. The session is active and shows as being connected (I see the user listed when I run "who"), but I can't do or see anything in that user's x2go session window. Whereas when I use a local user, it brings me right to a GNOME desktop and I can use it as normal with full audio. If you can help me figure this out, I can move onto the next issue which will be getting audio for Likewise LDAP users, which I see is where Ivan is stuck now as well. If we can get these last two issues resolved, we intend to roll this out on a much larger scale at our organization as well as demo it to a much larger audience at our parent company. X2Go Load balancing and Windows client

Hi all, We would like to use X2Go in an environment with mixed clients (Windows and Linux), but we definitely need to use load balancing. Is there a way to do this? Like some sort of server based load balancing? Regards, Bas Tichelaar

firefox plugin --verbose output?

Hello: Our efforts to use the Firefox plugin have not been successful. Our web-site installs the plugin but only displays a blank (white) box. Does the plug-in have a switch that enables verbose output? We need some method to determine why it does not connent /load. Thanks Clark

x2go with likewise-open (ldap) questions

Hi, I've implemented x2go with likewise-open, still I do have 2 issues, which are present only when I use LDAP account, and not present with regular account on the linux. More details: OS Ubuntu 10.10; x2go 3.0.1-5; likewise-open 5.4.0.42111. Ubuntu is joined to Windows Active Directory through LDAP. I don't have any issues there, and everything work fine with this configuration (one issue that I've overcome: when joining LDAP, the users have other group IDs, which came from LDAP. In order to connect to x2go server, your username must have the x2gousers group assignment. In my case in LDAP I do have special group which contains users who have to have access. I've logged to LDAP locally on the ubuntu, and using command id I've checked the unique identification of that LDAP group. Then I've set this number to the x2gousers in the file /etx/groups. This way I overwrite the group that came from LDAP with the local group, and only these users can connect to x2go). Note: I've read all the documentation and I still didn't find solutions for my issues. They are: 1. Connecting remotely with x2go client with LDAP credentials doesn't forward sound - thus no sound can be heard. This problem doesn't occur when I login locally on the Ubuntu with same LDAP credentials. When I'm logged in locally, the next remote login (using the client), has sound. However, I thought that it is something with groups for audio, but seems it is not, as I'm using very same credentials and the only difference is local and remote, this way all user permissions are same (confirmed)... 2. Connecting remotely with x2go client with LDAP credentials doesn't stop the session, when disconnected in every way. The session remain open (visible with x2golistsessions_sql HOSTNAME). I've made around 20 client sessions from one host, and on the next ones it refused to connect me, because the number of authentications were too much. Again, when doing this locally on the Ubuntu, the sessions really terminate. I've even replaced x2gosuspend with x2goterminate, without any success. The only way is to delete file /var/db/x2go/x2go_sessions and to create empty one with /usr/lib/x2go/script/x2gosqlite.sh. The live sessions still remain active, but this doesn't seem good solution. It is not possible to terminate or to resume open sessions with the client as well. So they stay like zombies there. Do you have an idea what can be the root causes for these issues? My logic lead me to some un-escaped symbols used when joining the Domain - like @ and \. Because when logging to the LDAP I am using USERNAME@DOMAIN. Another possibility is to be from Likewise-open, still, there should not happen this as locally everything works fine. Best Regards Ivan

We also found 3.0.1-2 to be extremely slow on Windows. We have been using 3.0.1-4 with much better results and do not recall having to make the changes you describe. There are still some issues related to Xming as the Windows XServer. These go away if you use the newer, paid version of Xming. They also go away and performance is significantly improved by using vcxsrv as the X server but that requires hacking the X2Go client code. Hi there, I have just packaged our (Dick Kniep and Mike Gabriel, supported by feedback and design items from Heinz and Alex) first draft of the graphical X2go client ,,Pyhoca-GUI''. The development currently is progressing very fast as it gets sponsored by Dick's company lindix.nl. Thanks a lot for that!!! You can download the package (and dependencies) for testing from here (please choose your distro and version): deb http://packages.das-netzwerkteam.de/debian squeeze main deb http://packages.das-netzwerkteam.de/debian sid main deb http://packages.das-netzwerkteam.de/ubuntu lucid main deb http://packages.das-netzwerkteam.de/ubuntu maverick main After adding one of the above lines, simply do: apt-get update apt-get install pyhoca-gui (PyHoca-GUI currently is mainly tested under Ubuntu lucid!!! No support for Debian lenny available though!!!) Currently also, the really developmental profile manager is disabled. PyHoca-GUI uses the same configuration files as x2goclient. Thus PyHoca-GUI should work out of the box for most setups / user profiles that have a working x2goclient configuration. PyHoca-GUI is only a small icon that docks into your systray (as the gnome applet for network manager does). Find this icon (the accelerated X from X2go in Ubuntu-like colors) and left-click on it. Then choose ,,Authenticate X2go Server'' and you should find your sesson profiles. This is all very alpha and please do only test on test systems. No warranty if you bug your system (which should not happen)!!! Finally, please note that PyHoca-GUI gets developed in close cooperation with esp. Heinz and also Alex. Heinz will also provide some extra artwork (esp. a logo) for PyHoca-GUI, I have seen first drafts already and I am looking forward to further work of his. RSA key issues -- cygwin -- win32

Greetings: I am new to the project and perhaps my experience with the Win32client will be useful. From the attached file you can follow the changes that I had to make in order to get the client to function. I am wondering if the installation could be tweaked a bit so that these adjustments would not be necessary. Clark

Eli ... ------------------------------ *store your work on launchpad! *use the native client feature of chrome to have a webclient without needed of programming a plugin (it is easy and will run even on android phones) *authenticate user with web2.0 sites like passport, openID or fbook *stop talking to the old dev team - look forward and try to become compatible to nx(4?) again - their server is much better. You mean the "Get Ready for NX 4.0" that's been "almost released" since Jan 2010? (also remember we're talking open source here so for the price difference of x2go ($0) vs v3.4 Enterprise NX server @ $1500 per 2 cpu server... there is some advantage to x2go for many people. I think there is also a lot of great work being done in SPICE which may be into upstream sometime next year. Its architecture is very good but its still "new" and I have more than a few crashes all the time. But it is open-source and the development groups are *very* active. One drawback to me with it though is that SPICE does rely on either xen or kvm on the server side. However, even the current x2go provided capabilities others mentioned offered and in some cases x2go's actually worked better (audio ?). nx4.x its still under development and not released as is the next version of x2go. It will be interested to see both when they are both available. I agree that the x2go work should get put on launchpad. If they want to get into the official repositories for Ubuntu that is a criteria and I'm assuming that would be good goal for any remote desktop project. Authentication via oauth, openID etc as you say is also a great capability that you see being used more and more by lots of applications.
