PyHoca-GUI v0.0.18 released for testing (using Python X2go 0.0.28)

Dear list, I have just released another test version (v0.0.18) of PyHoca-GUI (a wxPython X2go client implementation for the systray). Debian (>=squeeze) and Ubuntu (>=lucid) packages are available for installation. Further information can be found here: http://das-netzwerkteam.de/site/?q=node/71 Changes / modifications / improvements since last announced release (v0.0.15): o greatly improved session management (X2goSessionRegistry class) -> which makes it possible to notify more properly about what happens to running/suspended sessions o added/enabled a session profile manager o added edit functionality for connected profiles o added local folder sharing while session is connected o added SSH proxy support (see below) o rudimentarily added XDMCP support (not yet fully working) o added command line option that make PyHoca-GUI portable (esp. interesting for Windows version which will be available soon) o added Xserver support for Windows version The SSH proxy feature: ---------------------- As it was a customer request and also something I need regularly I implemented a SSH proxy server feature into PyHoca-GUI. What it does is this: 1. create a forwarding tunnel to some well protected host via my server: ssh -lmike myserver.local -L 54321:host.reachable-through-VPN.via.myserver:22 2. then connect an X2go session to myserver.local:54321 in order to reach the highly protected server at the end of the above SSH tunnel. SSH proxy support adds for new options to the sessions file: usesshproxy=true|false sshproxyhost=<hostname>:<port> sshproxyuser=<username> sshproxytunnel=<loca_host>:<local_port>:<remote_host>:<remote_port> SSH proxy support, of course, is implemented with Python Paramiko. The SSH proxy settings can be editor for each sesson profile under the ,,Connection'' tab. I have tested configuring SSH proxy quite a lot with PyHoca-GUI and x2goclient-qt. Both apps use the same sessions configuration file and the above options persist well when editing session profiles with either of the GUI applications (PyHoca-GUI known how to interpret them, x2goclient-qt simply ignores them). @Heinz+Alex: I was quite happy to see that x2goclient-qt ignores unknown session options and leaves them also untouched when editing a session profile. PyHoca-GUI also does this with session options it does not know. Thus, it is possible to add session profile options to the sessions (or GCONF or WINREG) file without the clients interfering with each other's ,,special'' options. light+love and happy new year (soon!!!) documentation fixes

Hi, I would recommend some changes to the documentation: - When using a SSH key, the passphrase (at least on Mac) is not stored by the system's SSH agent, but it looks like the key password has to be entered into the password field in x2go. Took me quite a while to figure out. ;-) - For installing the package key on Ubuntu and probably Debian, the following command is easier than the one in the documentation: apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com C509840B96F89133 - For adding the apt archive, I recommend using echo "deb http://x2go.obviously-nice.de/deb/ lenny main" >> /etc/apt/sources.list.d/x2go.list instead of adding to sources.list directly. Mac client can't find X11 sometimes

Hello, I have the issue that the Mac client can't find X11 sometimes. X11 is configured accordingly with accept network connections and safe connections, and sometimes it works, but sometimes x2go says it can't connect to X11. Restarting x2go, even logging in and out doesn't help. I tried deleting ~/.x2go and ~/.x2goclient and .Xauthority, to no avail. Only rebooting cured the problem. Maybe the problem lies deeper. Although I installed XQuartz, rebooted the machine so XQuartz is default over X11, and also manually chosen XQuartz in the x2go client, the original Apple X11 client is launched all of the time. Anyone can give me an advice on how to debug the problem? ;) Thanks, Florian

plugin install issues on Windows

Hope everyone is having nice holidays. I tried installing the Windows plugin (3.01-11) today on a few machines (Windows XP). The 32-bit Windows plugin installs fine but just shows a black screen on every recent Firefox version. What's funny is I've installed this a number of times on Windows XP and it always installed and ran (although with mouse issues). But now, the plugin just gives a black screen. Has anyone figured out the right voodoo to get the plugin installing reliably on Windows? Regards, Gerry

x2gothinclient boot error

Hello, I am attempting to load the x2gothinclient system. I have the client booting from the network via DHCP and starting the x2gothinclient as per the instructions on the website. However upon startup I am getting an error: Begin: Mounting root file system /init: .: line 171: can't open /scripts/NFS [] Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init! Any ideas? I have boot=nfs, but is there something else I might be doing wrong? Need a preseed option in deb files for sudoers entries

The preinst scripts in both the x2goserver and x2goprint debs add sudoers entries. When adding the packages to an existing installation this is adequate (although it may violate a Debian packaging policy somewhere). If the packages are installed during a Debian/Ubuntu installation using kickstart and/or preseeding it causes a conflict. The problem is that the entry "%admin ALL=(ALL) ALL" is added after the installation/post-script stage. If x2goserver or x2goprint is installed, their NOPASSWD entries are already in sudoers and the %admin entry overrides them since the file is processed from top to bottom. This causes x2go connections to fail with "sudo: pam_unix(sudo:auth): conversation failed" and "sudo: pam_unix(sudo:auth): auth could not identify password for [user]" errors in auth.log (an infinite number as it really doesn't want to give up until I kill x2gostartagent). Preseed options/templates need to be added to these debs so that the sudoers entries can be skipped via preseed/debconf and added later by a late_command script or manually after installation.

Hi, would you have any details on how you compiled OpenSSH for Windows please ? We are experiencing an issue we believe may be due to the age of the distributed SSH client and would like to update it to the latest release. -- Thanks, Phil

Hello, Sorry if I'm bugging you with this... I'm interested in changing some code in x2go and of course commiting those changes back. Because it would make things easier, I would like to ask about the state of the official git repository? Is there a 'git-clone'-able official tree somewhere I can base my changes on? x2goclient authentication error!

Hi All, hoping for some pointers here in getting x2go working. Two problems below - related or not? -------------------- Problem 1) Mac OS X client won't connect to server: Dialogue error message is: ''Can't connect to X-Server Please check your settings". Checking /var/log/system.log on the client machine (Mac OS X 10.6.4) it shows: Dec 18 17:23:11 Paul-Clarks-MacBook-Pro [0x0-0x18b98b8].x2goclient[56024]: Can't load translator (:/x2goclient_en_au) ! Any ideas as to what the fix is? --------------------- Problem 2) Linux client on server won't connect to localhost . Is this allowed? I attempted this to try to resolve problem 1! Is it even possible to run the x2goclient on the server? I'm attempted all this through a remote NoMachine NX desktop session, as the server is far away! (So, I do have NoMachine NX working fine.
