First thing is that Ubuntu 12.04 support is very new in X2Go and needs
to be released still. You have to use the nightly package on the server.

There also is a documented issue about SSH key authentication:

The Mac OS X client for X2Go (I assume you downloaded from
http://code.x2go.org/releases/
) is very new and might still have bugs. Do you have the chance to
test from an x2goclient on MS Windows or on Linux? (It should even be
possible to connect from localhost to localhost if you are lacking
Linux machiens).

It is not less than useless, it lacks man power from time to time. If
you are interested you are welcome to contribute. Note, X2Go is an
open product and we only sometimes reveive sponsoring or service
contracts. Most of the work happens after work+family. Any help is
welcome (coding, documentation, translation, etc.).

Great!!! You sound like a good match!

Understood and agreed. And: with every new Ubuntu version (esp.
Ubuntu) we have to adapt X2Go slightly in order to make it work with
older versions of Linux and the latest stuff distro developers come up
with. Our main focus, however, are the more stable distros (Debian
squeeze, Ubuntu lucid). Ubuntu precise will gradually come into focus
now. The half year releases, I must say, I (as one of the X2Go
developers, I forgot to mention that) tend to ignore...

Please read the posting I linked to above and see if it helps. Also
try another client OS.
