I do not know if it is true in the latest versions but when we first
tested with 3.0.1-5 on Debian, we found the X had to be started or X2Go
would not work.  I suspect the problem was not actually X but a
permissions issue somewhere where the x2go client running as a non-root
user was not able to start some process needed by X - John
