I'm certain that with a small team that Alex and Heinz have their hands 
full with this project.  And it is their choice where collaboration 
tools like forums, wikis, mailing lists and such appear on their agenda 
of priorities.  What is not an open source editor's choice is license 
compliance with the GPL.  The GPL specifically requires that the source 
code be made available for any derivative works which have linked GPL 
code.  There's no "wiggle" room about this.
