I'm running X2go 4.1.0.0-0~1536~ubuntu17.04.1 under Ubuntu 17.04, using Gnome 3.24 as my desktop environment on the client. Unfortunately this means I keep running into bug #1072/#982, where the top of X2go's session screen is unclickable. Thus I can't close windows, open some menus, etc.
See:
https://bugs.x2go.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=982 https://bugs.x2go.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1072
I'm looking for a way to work around this without completely throwing out my workflow in general. Because my laptop screen is small, running anything less than full screen makes things fiddly and hard to do (plus mostly what I want to do involves graphics). I don't really want to close everything else I'm working on and log in again to XFCE to do something on the server.
Is there a way to tweak X2go config or Gnome 3 to avoid this, or an extension somewhere that mitigates it? Even something I could run or change just before launching X2go that I could revert afterwards? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers, Jason
If you have not tried Mate' you might give it a shot, it is essentially
gnome2 and works properly with x2go.

Hi Robert,
Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't really want to throw out my whole DE to do this. I'll keep looking around.
Cheers, Jason
Keep it in mind in case Gnome 3 doesn't work out for you. I reached the
point long ago where functionality had to trump eye candy.

I appreciate the recommendation, but could we please avoid getting into DE religious wars? For me Gnome 3 is far, far more productive and functional than any other DE I've tried or used in the past; I accept that it's not the case for everyone. I don't have the time or inclination to replicate, from scratch, all my workflow optimisations and the Gnome 3 features themselves that make my work easier. But I also don't know nearly enough about X11 forwarding and so on to dive in and attempt to fix the bug.
For now, I'll run X2go at a low resolution and keep looking for workarounds or alternatives.
Cheers, Jason

I've found that if I use the "use whole display option" rather than "fullscreen", the problem goes away... but then I can't use alt-tab (it just operates on the client windows)! If I can figure out how to use window manager shortcuts in "use whole display" mode, then I'll have a workaround.
