After upgrading Ubuntu 15.10 to Ubuntu 16.04, I can no longer connectusing x2go. Trying to use either mate or kde, it appears to try to start and then aborts and goes back to the login prompt. I upgraded x2go server and all x2go software to the most recent on the server side, no help.

Actually it went away and then came back, so lxde is working only Mateis broken which sucks because that's what I am used to using.

Even LXDE doesn't work right, comes up in 600x800 resolution and evenif I set to 1680x1050 it won't change, even after logout and back in.

Do you have /etc/X11/Xsession.d/65snappy file? It defines an environment variable which I don't remember any more and caused quite a similar symptoms for me. I uninstalled snapd package and was happy.

At this point I'm reverting to 15.10 so will need to continue thisexperiment a few months from now. Apache 2.4.21 was working and five hours or so into running stopped. It was wedged in some manner that even killing all the processes and restarting wouldn't fix. A reboot did but obviously I don't want to be rebooting the server all the time so I am going back to 15.10. I made an image before I upgraded. Going to wait a few months for it to stablize and try again.

It mostly is a good advise to wait for 6 months with Ubuntu
dist-upgrades to allow it to settle.
Esp. if the LTS is released at a stage where Debian unstable is an
open construction site.

I really wanted PHP 7 because it really did improve speed, but justinstalled PHP 7 onto 15.10 to get it now. All is good.

As far as I can tell, this "fix" is not working with MATE Desktop. I had to revert back to Ubuntu MATE 15.10 by now to go on with our TCE project.
I hope this will be fixed soon as I'll definitely would prefer to base this new project on the LTS release instead.

In a previous message of this thread, Mike#1 suggested waiting 6 months for the Ubuntu side of things to settle. Of course, if you can't wait that long and your definition of "soon" is way shorter than 6 months, there's always the option of contracting one of the developers ... as you've previously done, IIRC.

Unfortunately I've reverted to 15.10, turns out 16.04 was unstable inother ways. Apache locked up, same Apache I had compiled from source and ran fine on 15.10, but locked up on 16.04, so I reverted to 15.10.
