Tried to understand why x2gokdrive does not work from Windows client, and found that there is no x2gokdrive binary installed with latest client. But looking into git history I see there are some commits related to windows support. Is it simply not packaged, or not ready?

Hello Михайло,
yes, the community installer of Windows X2Go Client doesn't contain x2gokdriveclient binary yet. I can't tell you why, apparently Mike didn't have time to build it or maybe he just forgot about it. Looks like x2gokdrive isn't really important for community yet, but some of my "enterprise" customers are using it productively with Gnome 3 and plasma since 2019.
PS: if you want, you can contact me privately and I'll give you access to internal "unofficial" build of X2Go client for Windows.
Alex

I haven't had time to package it yet.
So far, I've packaged the x2gokdrive server part for some RPM variants, but haven't touched the client yet.
It's mostly low-priority, given all the other things that need attention (and fixing).
Mihai
Hello,
Would that version work with CentOS6 ? At this point we are having a problem going from windows to CentOS 6. Thank you Leonid

Hello Oleksandr,
From user point of view it looks like a bug - there is an option (marked as experimental), but it just cannot work at all. Thanks for clarifying.
Looks like x2gokdrive isn't really important for community yet
Are there some problems with it? Or any drawbacks?

What is this feature supposed to do?
The simple answer: it can run modern desktop environments such as Gnome 3, but, as I understand, requires more network bandwidth for apps that don't make heavy use of bitmaps. There is a detailed explanation on wiki: https://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/wiki:advanced:x2gokdrive:start
Well it's way more than just this, but yes, you could say so.

well, maybe in this case you should feel the bug report.

As I told, my customers using it in productive environment for quite long time. But for sure, it wasn't tested in all possible use cases, so you should see yourself if it's suited for you.

Tried to run x2go with kdrive - and hey, it's really cool! Working full-screen mode on Windows 10 client, usable Chromium etc - good work! Yes, there are some minor problems and some things can be improved - but as for now it gives a far better UX than traditional X2Go for modern desktops.
