Yes, it is probably something that tries to be intelligent about resizing. I'm trying to figure out which part that is. Does Xinerama play a role?

My local window manager is default Ubuntu 18.04 Gnome. It is doing snapping to screen edges and to other window edges. Nothing strange there, easy to control when you move windows.

But the X2GO window is doing resizing the moment I move it via dragging the top-bar. The remote session.log does not tell _why_ it was resized. Or is it simply logging what it was told to do by the client?

To give an example. Say, I start with remote 3641x914+0+0 local 3641x914+76-83

Next I move the desktop window just a little bit up (didn't quite manage to do just up), this results in: remote 3642x914+0+0 local 3642x914+77-97

And session.log: Info: Screen [0] resized to geometry [3642x914] fullscreen [0]. Info: Screen [0] resized to geometry [3642x914] fullscreen [0].

So now the window is one pixel wider. Huh?

And here is another funny observation. When I click on the top-bar, and I keep the mouse pressed down and move just slightly and then stop moving while the mouse button is pressed. Session.log shows Info: Screen [0] resized to geometry [3642x944] fullscreen [0]. Info: Screen [0] resized to geometry [3642x1094] fullscreen [0]. Info: Screen [0] resized to geometry [3642x1110] fullscreen [0]. Info: Screen [0] resized to geometry [3642x1110] fullscreen [0]. Info: Screen [0] resized to geometry [3642x1110] fullscreen [0]. Info: Screen [0] resized to geometry [3641x1110] fullscreen [0]. Info: Screen [0] resized to geometry [3641x1110] fullscreen [0]. It filled up to maximum screen height (1110). Next, I release the mouse button. The window top goes to the original top position, but it keeps the screen height at 1110. Now the bottom of that desktop window is off-screen. local 3649x1110+82+260 Notice that 1110+260 => 1370 while my local screen has height 1200.

I'll do some more experimenting ...

In the server side logfile ~/.x2go/.../session.log you can see what resizes are done. So maybe this gives a hint what's going on.

After connection the desktop is created and I have a window (not full screen) on one monitor.

Then I stretch the remote desktop horizontally, by grabbing the right side (not the corner). I want it to stretch it occupying my two monitors, while leaving a little bit on space on all sides. The Xinerama extension works quite well. The panels stay on one (local) monitor. Cool feature!

There really is something funny with resizing that it keeps moving the bottom. Even when I move the desktop window as a whole by dragging the top bar, as you would normally move windows in Ubuntu Gnome. It seems to have a strong preference to make the remote height the same as the height of my local monitor.

What is extra annoying is that working remotely (thanks to X2GO!) the feedback from the remote is not immediate. So it jumps to where you don't want it to be, before you have time to react.

So, the question is, how do I stop it from snapping to the local monitor screen edges?
