Dear all,
I hope this is the right place for my problem as I have started with x2go only e few weeks ago and could not find many resources. I did a test two weeks ago and sound was working well. Now I made a new installation and encountered two problems compared to my last installation:
My client is a WinXP and the server is running ubuntu 11.10 in a virtual box. In my first test (two weeks ago) I heard the start-sound when I logged in remotely. I am not quite sure about stereo but I think both channels worked also. Now I made a fresh install of x2go on the server today and faced the problems mentioned above. I made an upgrade on the client from 3.99.0.3 to 3.99.0.4 with no changes, the problems persist. Did I miss something?
Any help is appreciated. Frank

- when I use flash (e.g. browser) I can only hear sound in the left speaker.

<snip> The stereo issues is strange and I can't imagine how that is X2Go related. Do you have the same "mono" problem with other applications, e.g., playing the same video in VLC or mplayer? If so, it may be a pulseaudio configuration issue. If not, it may be a flash/browser configuration issue - John
Hi John,
Well it seems to be a problem with the client installation. On my client (WinXP SP3) the balance for "wav" was set to 100% left. I just did an installation (x2goclient-3.99.0.5-setup.exe) on a second client (also WinXP SP3) with the same result. Before installation all levers were in the middle position. After installing the client software the lever for wav (only this one) was set to left. If you move the lever back to the middle everything works in stereo so far but this seems to be a caveat. There is still no sound during login but I can live with that.
Now I have the next problem. I tested with watching videos on youtube. At first everything works fine but after approx. five minutes sound stops working. If you select another video flash seems to wait for something. If you try to exit/close firefox you have to wait some seconds. Do you have any suggestions what may cause this? With a local login everything works for at last ten minutes so I assume it is no problem with the server.
Regards Frank

<snip> Hi, Frank. Interesting about the leftist tendencies of X2Go (not that I can speak for the political affiliations of the developers but I just couldn't resist given the current political climate in the US :) ).
Our environment is entirely WAN based so we openly state that video is not supported; that's why we are so interested in SPICE as it matures and in Mike Gabriel's mediabox (if I remembered the name correctly). Thus, I can't be of much help on the YouTube issue other than to say that Flash and Linux seem like a match made in Hell - at least on 64 bit. Do you have the same problem if you use a 32 bit X2Go Server? I don't know if that is practical for you.
That and 64 bit issues with Firefox Prism which is used in the Zimbra Desktop Client are making us consider transitioning from 64 bit X2Go Servers to running 32 bit X2GoServers as guests (one per user) on a 64 bit VServer host. Good luck - John
Hi John,
Your thoughts on US politics are very interesting; in fact I did not know there is also a classification into left and right. But so far I am only involved in european politics (if you can say so in a global world). :)
Well at least I found some time to test with 32bit. It is not a problem as I am running my server in virtual box. I just set up another instance and tried it with ubuntu 11.10 32bit. But I could find no difference regarding my sound issues (or any other experience). For now I have disable sound tunneling which fixed the problem.
Regards Frank

Have you tried UNchecking "use SSD port forwarding to tunnel sound system connections through firewalls"?
I've found that sound tunneling is broken on all windows x2goclients after 3.01-13. If I disable the sound tunneling on the later clients, then videos and sound play fine. If I enable it, the videos and sound do not play (they just freeze). Of course, my x2go connection is not going through a firewall.
John,
I've tried without tunneling: it is working! But in my case there is a firewall between client and server. Does somebody know which ports are used? What I found out so far is that the client is listening on port 4713tcp. So my ruleset right now has ssh in one direction and 4713 in the other. Will the ports change if you have more then one client or with a new connection? Can it be configured somewhere?
