I've tried xfce and lxde. It seems on fedora 26 each time I try to resume a session it starts from a blank state - not resuming previous session. I did not have this issue with fedora 25. Any ideas?
Looks like the systemd killer is causing this

Please see the list archive/bug tracker, we've had that problem and the solution/workaround/config setting over on the X2Go-Dev list just a few days ago. Bug #1198 should contain all the info you need.
