Hi,
Is X2goserver compatible with CentOS release 5.11 (Final) I've got perl problem during installation. I used RHEL depository.
x2goserver-4.0.1.15-5.1.x86_64 from X11_RemoteDesktop_x2go has depsolving problems --> Missing Dependency: perl(Capture::Tiny) is needed by package x2goserver-4.0.1.15-5.1.x86_64 (X11_RemoteDesktop_x2go) x2goserver-4.0.1.15-5.1.i386 from X11_RemoteDesktop_x2go has depsolving problems --> Missing Dependency: perl(Sys::Syslog) >= 0.14 is needed by package x2goserver-4.0.1.15-5.1.i386 (X11_RemoteDesktop_x2go) x2goserver-4.0.1.15-5.1.i386 from X11_RemoteDesktop_x2go has depsolving problems
Notes the module Capture::Tiny and Sys::Syslog has been installed by cpan as I didn't find the rpm package:
perl -MCPAN -e 'install Capture::Tiny' CPAN: Storable loaded ok Going to read /root/.cpan/Metadata Database was generated on Wed, 10 Dec 2014 12:53:35 GMT Capture::Tiny is up to date.
Thanks for your help.

Hi guys,
Using this folder as a template: http://download.gluster.org/pub/gluster/glusterfs/LATEST/EPEL.repo/
I created a whole bunch of symlinks on the server:
x2go-admin@ymir:/srv/sites/x2go.org/packages/epel$ ls -l total 12 drwxr-sr-x 5 x2go-admin x2go 4096 Dec 11 13:35 5 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:38 5.0 -> 5 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:37 5.1 -> 5 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:36 5.10 -> 5 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:36 5.11 -> 5 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:37 5.2 -> 5 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:37 5.3 -> 5 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:37 5.4 -> 5 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:37 5.5 -> 5 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:37 5.6 -> 5 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:37 5.7 -> 5 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:37 5.8 -> 5 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:35 5.9 -> 5 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:36 5Client -> 5 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:37 5Server -> 5 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:36 5Workstation -> 5 drwxr-sr-x 6 x2go-admin x2go 4096 Dec 11 13:42 6 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:38 6.0 -> 6 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:37 6.1 -> 6 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:37 6.10 -> 6 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:37 6.11 -> 6 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:37 6.2 -> 6 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:37 6.3 -> 6 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:37 6.4 -> 6 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:37 6.5 -> 6 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:37 6.6 -> 6 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:37 6.7 -> 6 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:37 6.8 -> 6 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:37 6.9 -> 6 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:38 6Client -> 6 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:38 6Server -> 6 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:38 6Workstation -> 6 drwxr-sr-x 5 x2go-admin x2go 4096 Apr 2 2014 7 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:42 7.0 -> 7 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:42 7.1 -> 7 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:43 7.10 -> 7 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:43 7.11 -> 7 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:43 7.2 -> 7 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:43 7.3 -> 7 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:43 7.4 -> 7 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:43 7.5 -> 7 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:43 7.6 -> 7 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:43 7.7 -> 7 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:43 7.8 -> 7 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:43 7.9 -> 7 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:45 7Client -> 7 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:38 7Everything -> 7 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:38 7Server -> 7 lrwxrwxrwx 1 x2go-admin x2go 1 Dec 11 13:38 7Workstation -> 7
And I then updated the wiki page to specify "$releasever" rather than "6". Therefore, the wiki page should apply to all versions of EL 5.x, 6.x and 7.x .
If your systems' x2go.repo file specifies "5", "6" or "7", there is no need to change it.

Hi Michael,
Sorry, I misread your last email. I thought you had solved the problem already.
Both of these URLs are correct for your CentOS 5.11 system. In other words, either URL should work fine: http://packages.x2go.org/epel/5/main/$basearch http://packages.x2go.org/epel/$releasever/main/$basearch
The URL with "6" is not the correct one.
I am not certain why you are getting "Error performing checksum".
Perhaps you should try running "yum clean all", and then "yum makecache"? Both of those commands require sudo or root. I recall having to run those 2 commands after I edited a .repo file recently.
Also, perhaps a web proxy is interfering?
And perhaps you should try downloading http://packages.x2go.org/epel/5/extras/x86_64/repodata/d066d993f0f3f6a6f1ef2... with wget or a web browser on this machine. The downloaded file should be 2928 bytes.

I believe I've figured out the problem.
http://www.openfusion.net/linux/yum_error_performing_checksum
You need to install the package "python-hashlib" from EPEL in order for yum to understand the sha256 checksums (hashsums) that our apt repo uses.
Please let me know if that fixes the problem. If so, I'll update the documentation on the wiki page.

And I then updated the wiki page to specify "$releasever" rather than

If your systems' x2go.repo file specifies "5", "6" or "7", there is no
need to change it.

You need to install the package "python-hashlib" from EPEL in order for yum to understand the sha256 checksums (hashsums) that our apt repo uses.
Please let me know if that fixes the problem. If so, I'll update the documentation on the wiki page.

Hi Michael,
x2goserver depends on multiple NX-related packages. So we need those to install correctly before x2goserver can be installed.
If x2goserver is installed, but "x2golistsessions" cannot be found, then that is another problem.
It looks like you are getting those signature errors because of another limitation of EL5. http://adminotes.blogspot.fr/2011/12/centos-6-rpm-sign-problem-v4-signatures...
I do not see a quick fix for this. (We cannot follow that webpage's instructions because do not have a ~/.rpmmacros file in our buildscript.git repo.) So I submitted a bug to our bug tracker: http://bugs.x2go.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=699
In the meantime, in your x2go.repo file, you have "gpgcheck=0", right? That will disable the GPG check. I am hoping that will work around the issue for you and all other EL5 users.
Another possible workaround is for you to pass --tolerant to yum.

Hi Michel,
That blog post contains instructions for us, the x2go developers, to follow. You do not need to follow them.
Unfortunately, we need to modify the instructions to work with our yum/rpm build system. Mike#1 (Mike Gabriel) and I are working on this right now via the aforementioned bug report, #699. http://bugs.x2go.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=699
I'll reply back to this email thread once I believe we have it fixed.
Also, FYI, I found out why "--tolerant" did not help. I read the manpage for a newer version of yum. However, the manpage for yum 3.2.22 on CentOS 5.11 states this: -t, --tolerant This option currently does nothing.

Hi Michael,
x2goserver depends on multiple NX-related packages. So we need those to install correctly before x2goserver can be installed.
If x2goserver is installed, but "x2golistsessions" cannot be found, then that is another problem.
It looks like you are getting those signature errors because of another limitation of EL5.
http://adminotes.blogspot.fr/2011/12/centos-6-rpm-sign-problem-v4-signatu res.html

I believe I've figured out the problem.
http://www.openfusion.net/linux/yum_error_performing_checksum
You need to install the package "python-hashlib" from EPEL in order
for yum to understand the sha256 checksums (hashsums) that our apt
repo uses.
Please let me know if that fixes the problem. If so, I'll update the
documentation on the wiki page.

Should I uncomment the x2go-nightly lines in the repo file? Thanks. Regards

Hi Michel
Mike Gabriel (Mike #1) made the git commit, not me. It did not fix the problem though.
We are waiting for Mike#1 to try to fix it again. If he does not do so before this weekend, then I will try to fix it this weekend.
I am not sure how much you can help write the fix because in order to test the fix, you need access to our build infrastructure. Mike#1 and I do have that access though.

Hi Michel,
That blog post contains instructions for us, the x2go developers, to
follow. You do not need to follow them.
Unfortunately, we need to modify the instructions to work with our
yum/rpm build system. Mike#1 (Mike Gabriel) and I are working on this
right now via the aforementioned bug report, #699.
http://bugs.x2go.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=699
I'll reply back to this email thread once I believe we have it fixed.
Also, FYI, I found out why "--tolerant" did not help. I read the manpage
for a newer version of yum.
However, the manpage for yum 3.2.22 on CentOS 5.11 states this:
-t, --tolerant
This option currently does nothing.

I checked "gpgcheck=0" in the repo file and I tried with the --tolrent

Hi Michael,
x2goserver depends on multiple NX-related packages. So we need those
to
install correctly before x2goserver can be installed.
If x2goserver is installed, but "x2golistsessions" cannot be found,
then
that is another problem.
It looks like you are getting those signature errors because of
another
limitation of EL5.
http://adminotes.blogspot.fr/2011/12/centos-6-rpm-sign-problem-v4-signatu
res.html
I do not see a quick fix for this.
(We cannot follow that webpage's instructions because do not have a
~/.rpmmacros file in our buildscript.git repo.)
So I submitted a bug to our bug tracker:
http://bugs.x2go.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=699
In the meantime, in your x2go.repo file, you have "gpgcheck=0", right?
That will disable the GPG check. I am hoping that will work around the
issue for you and all other EL5 users.
Another possible workaround is for you to pass --tolerant to yum.

Hi Michel,
I rebuilt the main packages and I verified that they can be successfully installed now. http://bugs.x2go.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=699
However, I encountered a bug in the x2goserver code itself. It prevents x2goserver from being used on CentOS 5 at all. http://bugs.x2go.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=714 Both main and heuler are affected.
Unfortunately, I do not have the Perl skills to fix bug #714. TheUser2 is good at Perl, but he does not know of an easy fix for it; he normally writes his own custom logging code rather than using the Sys::Syslog module. (We discussed this via IRC.) So unless someone else steps up to fix it, I do not know when it will be fixed. Sorry :(

Hi Michel,
There actually is a workaround for #714: manually downloading and installing an RPM: http://bugs.x2go.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=714

I'll try to fix #715 (and/or determine a workaround for it) later today.

Hi Michel,
The problem is probably with #3: the dependencies.
Try adding the flexbox repository. To do so, download and install this RPM: http://flexbox.sourceforge.net/centos/5/x86_64/flexbox-release-1-4.3.noarch....
Then run "yum update".
And then try to install the "perl-DBI" package. It should resolve its dependencies successfully.

PB solved I installed the flexbox rpm # rpm -i flexbox-release-1-4.3.noarch.rpm warning: flexbox-release-1-4.3.noarch.rpm: Header V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 4026433f # rpm -i flexbox-release-1-4.3.noarch.rpm warning: flexbox-release-1-4.3.noarch.rpm: Header V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 4026433f package flexbox-release-1-4.3.noarch is already installed
I did the "yum update" as recommended This command "yum install perl-DBI" tell me that perl-DBI is already installed. So I uninstalled it with "yum remove perl-DBI".
Take care the command "yum remove perl-DBI" is uninstalling x2goserver in the same time. So, I reinstalled perl-DBI first with this command : "yum install perl- DBI". That 's installed the depedencies as you told, and I installed back x2goserver with this command again "yum install x2goserver"
The client is working on Ubuntu and windows Thanks again for your support that well done.

Hi Michel,
The problem is probably with #3: the dependencies.
Try adding the flexbox repository. To do so, download and install this RPM: http://flexbox.sourceforge.net/centos/5/x86_64/flexbox-release-1-4.3.noarch. rpm
Then run "yum update".
And then try to install the "perl-DBI" package. It should resolve its dependencies successfully.

The new year looks starting well Great job, I installed the package with yum and no error. All X2go tools are installed. Thanks Mike
But they don't work properly. I can not use X2Go yet. I've this error in my client and when I use x2gosessionslist: Can't locate object method "sqlite_busy_timeout" via package "DBI::db" at /usr/lib64/x2go/x2gosqlitewrapper.pl line 90.
I tried to install perl-DBI-1.615-2.x86_64.rpm as you recommended. I got dependencies problem; #:~/Workdir# rpm -i perl-DBI-1.615-2.x86_64.rpm warning: perl-DBI-1.615-2.x86_64.rpm: Header V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 4026433f

So I tried to install the module trough CPAN and I updated successfully the booth modules : #:~/Workdir# perl -MRPC::PlClient -le '$version=RPC::PlClient->VERSION ; print "$version\n";' 0.2020 #:~/X2GoServer# perl -MRPC::PlServer -le '$version=RPC::PlServer->VERSION ; print "$version\n";' 0.2020
That's not solved the dependencies problem through the RPM installation. Also I installed the DBI module with CPAN package. #:~/Workdir#perl -MDBI -le '$version=DBI->VERSION ; print "$version\n";' 1.632
I'm still with the error of x2golistsessions and the client. Following CPAN, the package "DBI::db" is included in the mean DBI package.
Did I miss something ? Could you help ? May a bug in the x2gosqlitewrapper.pl at line 90. I've not a good skill as development in perl. I checked but I didn't see anything wrong
Thanks

I managed to get X2Go Server (main, 4.0.1.18) to install and work on CentOS 5.
However,
- After I installed, the packages, I had to manually apply the patch I submitted for bug #715 to /usr/sbin/x2godbadmin, then manually run "sudo /usr/sbin/x2godbadmin --createdb"
- I had to manually apply the change to /etc/x2go/Xsession from this commit:
http://code.x2go.org/gitweb?p=x2goserver.git;a=blobdiff;f=x2goserver-xses
sion/etc/Xsession;h=94692db9680637fcddca34e461d8ef289869e6cc;hp=b9ef15e3 2

c5;hpb=c3c2e3d284ee523f168d91fce5b1a7d82189d039 3. I had to solve a "dependency hell". I do not have time to document the exact steps one needs to take at this moment, but the dependencies are listed here:
http://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/doc:installation:x2goserver?s[]=epel&s[]=5# epel_5_via_packagesx2goorg (I actually ignored the fuse, fuse-libs, and fuse-sshfs packages because I do not use folder or printer sharing.)
So right now, you can use X2Go Server on CentOS 5, but it will require some work on your part to repeat those 3 tasks on your systems. I intend to streamline those 3 tasks next weekend.

Great :)
Glad to have helped.
I'll reply back once I have streamlined those 3 tasks (for the reference of others reading this convo.)
