Hi all,
I'm fairly new to x2go and I'm using x2goserver on Ubuntu 14.04 (with xfce and mate) and it's working pretty good. (aside from some problems with the client on win8.1)
But when using Ubuntu(/Xubuntu) 14.10, it works but the "layout/look-and-feel" is not the same as when I log into the console directly. Also, I get a weird prompt (only when using x2go client) stating "Authenticationis required to change your own user data". I suppose this is due to the login over ssh. (don't get the error on the "console")
Any suggestions on how to fix/troubleshoot this? I'd be happy to give more details/logs or test something.

I'm using 14.04 and don't get either of those issues. Are you sure you
are using the same desktop on both, that is Mate or KDE or whatever, is the same both locally and when you come in over x2go?

When using 14.04 I don't have this issue. It's only when using 14.10 that I do.
The screenshot was on Xubuntu and indeed I now tried plain Ubuntu and installed mate, it doesn't give me those errors.
After installing xfce (on plain Ubuntu), that error and "slightly different look" of the desktop remains.
I'll be using mate for now.
Best regards, Kristof.

Can you provide screenshots of local vs remote that show the "slightly different look"?
I have observed that the behavior of drop-down menus sometimes differs under X2Go vs local. (On X2Go, you have to hold down the mouse button to keep the menu open. On local, you just need to click the mouse once.)
I'll be using mate for now.

Hi Mike,
I think it's not that big an issue, I just installed Ubuntu14.10 and added xfce4, after this i installed x2go and did a test login.
The layout looks the same to me now, it seems I only have the "Authentication is required to change your own user data" prompt. Entering the correct password or pressing cancel works both :)

Most likely, an XFCE-specific autostart application (/etc/xdg/autostart/*.desktop) was launched, and the PolicyKit policy for that application is:

- Do not require your password when using "active" sessions (local X)
