Can someone explain me when I could use x2godesktopsharing?
From the doc it looks like you needed it to share a desktop but I managed to share desktops without installing it (I only in installed x2goserver).
I made a small video to explain better the situation: http://bit.ly/TdpcxE
I'm on Ubuntu 12.10.
Second questions. With x2godesktopsharing installed I have an applet (http://bit.ly/TZosgs) in the systray where I can activate/deactivate desktop sharing but it has no effect (I can connect with a client when Deactivate desktop sharing is selected) and I don't understand how to add users (Granted user... and Banned users... are always greyed out...)
Thanks Marco

The x2godesktopsharing utility is for sharing desktops across different users.
If do the same test as this: http://bit.ly/TdpcxE with two different
user accounts, this should not work, right? (shivvvveeeer....)
If you then launch x2godesktopsharing on the first desktop (the one
you want to share), then you can access this desktop via
x2godesktopsharing via another user account.
Adding users to x2godesktopsharing happens once another user connects
to your account. The GUI, of course, can be improved here: adding
users before they connect via the GUI could be a possible feature
request.

hi,
FYI: Alex and I have just fixed an issue with cross-user x2godesktopsharing. A bugfix release is currently being prepared (3.1.1.9).
i am using x2godesktopsharing 3.0.1.5-0~74~precise1 and i tried using the feature but faild other than with the same user, which runs the original desktop or x2go-session.
Assume i run x2godesktopsharing and allowed access in principle ("Desktopfreigabe aktiviert") then, When i connect with a different user, i immediately get "user denied access" and on the clientside desktop nothing happens; in the log you can find:
Nov 28 18:21:27 client32 /usr/bin/x2gostartagent: user ,,schulz'' requests desktop sharing from user ,,schul04'' for desktop ,,:0.0'' Nov 28 18:21:27 client32 /usr/bin/x2gostartagent: executing command: x2godesktopsharing client xx.xx.x.xxx 800x600 adsl 16m-jpeg-9 unix-kde-depth_24 de pc105/de 1 S 0XSHADschul04XSHAD:0.0 schulz Nov 28 18:21:27 client32 /usr/bin/x2gostartagent: command result is: DENY Nov 28 18:21:27 client32 /usr/bin/x2gostartagent: ERROR: user schul04 denied desktop sharing session
Connecting with the same user schul04 is working fine (and was stated, even did not need to install or use x2godesktopsharing)
did i miss something important? And somehow the same question: how are users added? the systray applet always has greyed out accept and deny-menus.
best regards
Jochen

Import thing is that you have x2goserver 3.1.1.9 installed. Should be
in the stable Ubuntu ppa by now.

There are two approaches.
Every member of the posix group x2godesktopsharing may share each
other's desktop.
Normally, each Posix user on a UniX machine has a primary group of the
same name (e.g. user foo has primary group foo, user bar has primary
group bar).
To give user bar access to user foo's desktop, add user bar to the group foo.

i tried this, but it changed nothing.
i looked briefly into the code of x2godesktopsharing and it wants to connect to a socket which simple is not there. The socketname is for example /tmp/user/2001/x2godesktopsharing_@schul04@:0.0 when trying to connect to "schul04's" desktop with "schulz" and it is never created.
Thats why x2godesktopsharing spits out a DENY, as it seems.
any ideas?
Jochen

BTW: with x2godesktopsharing you can also share a local desktop (one
that you logged on to via GDM/KDM/...) and look upon that via X2Go
Client. This could potentially be a helpdesk concept...
