Howdy everyone,
I'm working on migrating a 20 workstation windows 2003 terminal server environment to x2go. I'm very excited. I'm going to be running a Dell R900 with 16 cores at 2.93 ghz and 128 megs of ram. I'll have between 500 and 800 Gb of disk space depending on the raid configuration. I'm leaning toward Ubuntu but I'm open to suggestions.
128 MB of RAM is going to be seriously memory starved for any Unix
distribution.
My question for the forum is about the Linux distribution and suggested configurations. I have a test setup running with Ubuntu on an older server. The performance has been ok but when viewing videos on YouTube using the x2go client it's a little choppy.
If you've got 128MB of RAM, choppy is unavoidable. However, that said,
even with 32GB of RAM on server, 4GB on workstation, x2go still has some chop to video using a 20Mbit cable connection.
That's all for my ramblings. I'm looking forward to hearing any suggestions.
Thanks, Bruce
