An update:
When I initiate an X session on the server, X2Go client then works as it should. It would appear that there must be some software that needs to be running on the server at boot in order to connect with X2Go. Does anybody know what that software is? Ubuntu 12.4.

X2go was working a while back, but now when I boot the client I just get a blank screen and this message:
NXPROXY - Version 3.5.0
Copyright (C) 2001, 2010 NoMachine.
See http://www.nomachine.com/ for more information.
Info: Proxy running in client mode with pid '3476'.
Session: Starting session at 'Sat Dec 15 09:56:54 2012'.
Info: Connecting to remote host 'localhost:31001'.
Info: Connection to remote proxy 'localhost:31001' established.
The session then aborts on a timeout.
My desktop is XFCE, so I use a custom desktop and command "startfxce4". Everything worked fine previously.
If I try "connect to local desktop" I get "no local desktop found.
I am running client 3.99.2.2
I have the server packages installed (Ubuntu 12.2) but only the x2gocleansessions is running.
