I think $SOMEONE (maybe Alex?) tried to explain it to me once, but it was too much "code-talk" for me. So I'm not sure it qualifies as a bug. And it's not like anyone complained about it so far - just the opposite, it might be a useful workaround for Dmitry's problem.
