Opening URLs on remote application

When I run applications (such as email and web browser) on two different remote machines using SSH X-Windows forwarding they can correctly open URLs in the other application. So clicking on a HTTP link in an email launches that URL in the browser. Clicking on a mailto link on a web page launches that in the email program. If there is a name for this process I don't know what it is. Firefox talks about it here. https://www-archive.mozilla.org/unix/remote.html X2go provides me with much better performance than standard X forwarding but the URL magic doesn't seem to work. The email program launches a browser on the machine it is running on rather than the existing browser. The browser does the same thing with mailto links. The firefox link seems to suggest this magic is done with the X toolkit, intrinsic properties, and actions. There is also the MIME database to look at, and I think D-Bus might be involved. If I can figure out how it works with X forwarding perhaps I could write a patch for X2go or write a wrapper script around it that makes that possible. Can you steer me in the right direction to understand this process and what x2go code I should look at? For reference I am running openSuSE 42.3 on an X86_64 machine with the KVM hypervisor. I am using an XFCE desktop. The "remote" machines are running on virtual machines under KVM on the same hardware. My email client is Evolution 3.12.11 running on one VM and my browser is Firefox 57 running on another. I have tried both the X2goclient 4.1.0 (which I guess is C) and pyhoca-gui 0.5.0 which should be python. Maybe there is a configuration option I need to use that I missed. I can't find anything in the documentation about this feature, although it would help if I had a name for this bit of magic. If this feature isn't already there I would be pleased to write, test and submit a patch. Thanks. Bill

CentOS6 Servers

If you have users on a CentOS6 platform and it is up to date, and they use the gnome desktop, you'll probably get a pop-up that says, "Authentication is required to set the network proxy used for downloading packages An application is attempting to perform an action that requires privleges. Authentication as the super user is required to perform this action". A fix per the Red Hat solutions site: "Add X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=false to the end of the /etc/xdg/autostart/gpk-update-icon.desktop file." Can't access X2go through router

Bill, could this be your problem? https://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/doc:faq:start Known Issues Can't login to x2goserver with an ECDSA key Currently, older versions of the ssh library used by X2Go called libssh are unable to work with ECDSA keys. However you may use an RSA key - if you need to - or go with the SSH default authenticating method using the remote user's password. SSH Login issue If you already use OpenSSH to get a shell on your x2go server, you may get this message when trying to connect with x2go: The host key for this server was not found but an othertype of key exists. An attacker might change the default server key to confuse your client into thinking the key does not exist This is related to the ECDSA host key (related to the previous FAQ entry - although there is a subtle difference between host and client keys.) To solve this issue, you can disable ECDSA keys on your OpenSSH server configuration, by commenting the following line in /etc/ssh/sshd_config file: #HostKey /etc/ssh/ssh_host_ecdsa_key Then restart the SSH service. Now you should not get the error message anymore.

Problem connecting

I've always had no problems connecting to x2go with only port 22 open on my router. Just recently I've been unable to connect. I turned on debugging and see my client connecting in the system logs: client X.X.X.X has successfully resumed session with ID paul-50-1511705558_stDXFCE_dp32 However, on the client I get an error that says "could not establish connection to remote proxy" I see this error repeating when I run the client with a --debug flag: 2go-DEBUG-../src/onmainwindow.cpp:10759> "Searching proxy window: X2GO-paul-50-1511705558_stDXFCE_dp32" x2go-DEBUG-../src/onmainwindow.cpp:12465> "Searching window with title: X2GO-paul-50-1511705558_stDXFCE_dp32" I'm not using a proxy for the internet. USB forwarding documentation

I know this is a FAQ, but I've been unable to find an answer on my own. I'd like to be able to redirect a local USB flash drive to a remote Windows host. I'm using TCE from a debian image deployed to my thin client devices. If this is possible, what's the magic recipe to make this work? Thanks. problems connecting to x2go server

I run a personal server with x2go and I've used it for years with no problem. I can currently ssh fine, but x2go does not work. I've tried removing .x2go from /tmp and /home/paul. I've recreated the user database: rm -f /var/lib/x2go/x2go_sessions x2godbadmin --createdb None of this has worked. Removing and reinstalling seem to work, but it's now back to the same error. I have turned up logging and everything seems to complete properly. When I run the client with a --debug flag I get this, with the final 2 lines repeating: Info: Proxy running in client mode with pid '22689'. Session: Starting session at 'Mon Nov 20 14:35:24 2017'. Info: Using abstract X11 socket in kernel namespace for accessing DISPLAY=:1. Info: Connecting to remote host 'localhost:37964'. Hanging Session

Hello everybody, I've running X2Go (v4.0.1.20) on CentoOS6 and it works quite well. Last week I was out of office and I kept a session running on the "server". When I came back, I was not able to connect to session again. The client stucks after starting the connection, after >1/2h I killed the client. When I try to connect afterwards, I have to suspend the session 1st, then I can connect, but the client stucks again. On the server /var/log/messages is blown up by lot of this messages: Nov 17 09:18:32 lmesim138 /usr/bin/x2gosuspend-session: session with ID lmegast5-50-1507636342_stDGNOME_dp32 has been suspended successfully Nov 17 09:18:32 lmesim138 /usr/bin/x2gosuspend-session: session with ID lmegast5-50-1507636342_stDGNOME_dp32 has been suspended successfully Nov 17 09:18:42 lmesim138 /usr/bin/x2gosuspend-session: session with ID lmegast5-50-1507636342_stDGNOME_dp32 has been suspended successfully This message is added even if no client is trying to connect or disconnect. Taking a look on the open files (lsof) shows that the session log file in /tmp has been deleted meanwhile: /tmp/.x2go-lmegast5/C-lmegast5-50-1507636342_stDGNOME_dp32/session.log (deleted) (background: "old" files in /tmp are deleted automatically after 3 weeks of beeing not used/touched) I assume thats the reason why I cannot connect to the session again. Do you have an idea how I might make the session working again or overcome the problem in general? (I sometimes have simulations running for a longer time and the result/evaluation will be done and shown within this session) Best regards, Markus
