Has anyone ever used X2Go Client (windows, linux, mac) with some sort of MFA that works in SSH? Duo and PortalGuard both support SSH MFA with either a "line client" or easier IMHO an appended password. I was wondering if Duo with the appended code to the password field might work? I just updated to kde-20 on fedora 31, and once again trying kde over wayland. Previously x2go wouldn't work, but trying it now it seems to be working!

Is there a broker that does NOT require root to install?

I have a shared host in Namecheap. I have SSH access, but no root, so no APT-GET. I do have wsgi, with limited access to the httpd conf files, and do have access to .htaccess though. Is there a precompiled static binary, or a python / php script I can use with apache?

That’s the point. Gpg-cards. We too had those sun-machines for evaluation, but declined. When ones whole organization is using PKI, with 65,000 cards around, pkcs11 is essential. Would be nice to have a proper Citrix alternative. One obviously missing, is a SmartCard, loaded with SSL keys & certificates, that should be reachable through P11 (or pkcs11) library... Frankly, I don't see a reason for the hype around Duo - what does it do that any of the established 2FA solutions can't do? When we looked at that after a customer had asked us about it, all it seemed to do was add a single point of failure, as it needed to "phone home" to a central Duo server (not under the customer's control) before being able to grant access. Block/sabotage that connection and you've essentially DoS'ed the system. Solutions based on Google Authenticator, or more generally, OATH, need no such external connection. I would assume the same goes for MOTP, YubiKey and SecureID. My personal favorite at the moment is Google Authenticator, which, despite what its name might suggest, does not "phone home" to Google. And you don't need to run the actual Google-Authenticator-App on your phone, either - any open source OTP app that supports TOTP OATH will do. Not sure what Cisco AnyConnect does or why we should add a second password field on the default login screen - that doesn't seem to make sense. All that would do is confuse users that don't use 2FA. And we don't know if a server uses 2FA or not until after we've provided a username and password to it, so there's no way of determining whether or not we should present a field for the 2FA code on the login screen. Tried to understand why x2gokdrive does not work from Windows client, and found that there is no x2gokdrive binary installed with latest client. But looking into git history I see there are some commits related to windows support. Is it simply not packaged, or not ready? -- З повагою, Михайло

The mapping in this case is without effect because it maps desktop-environments to commands but the parameters given to x2goruncommand don't show KDE. Instead x2goruncommand receives startkde directly (from where ever). Custom desktop with /startplasma-x11/ starts the session (because $cmd is set to /startplasma-x11) /and passes till the end. But obviously not using the clients display parameters (seems to use the servers display parameters. Client W10, server Opensuse tumbleweed. Hope I made no mistakes and it helps. Thanks Lutz

Getting delays when adjusting windows/web browsing

My host is kubuntu 18.04, I have installed x2go server version 4.1.0.3-0~170. I'm using windows 10 to connect with x2go client 4.1.2.2. I get delays in scrolling on firefox, or chrome. I also get very noticeable stutters when dragging a window to move it, or maximizing. (Heres a GIF of what I'm talking about https://gph.is/g/ZORllLz ) I have good connection speeds - https://imgur.com/gKFzKkn (both machines are on LAN connected via the same switch) I've tried quite a few different connection compression methods. X2Go Windows Client 4.1.2.2 Crashes Upon Connect

I just installed the Windows client version 4.1.2.2. It crashes as soon as it tries to make the SSH connection. I tried debug and the debug window closes immediately as well. Is there a log somewhere? It was tried on two different machines that have different OSs and virus protection. 4.1.2.0 works fine. It doesn't crash when attempting to connect to a computer that isn't running SSH (just times out). It does crash when trying to connect to that same computer by tunneling through another machine that is running SSH. If I try to connect to a new machine, it crashes as soon as I accept the host key. If you put in a wrong password, it still crashes. Thus, there is never a completed SSH connection. Is there anything I can look at or do? I was hoping that 4.1.2.2 would fix some of the annoyances that prevents me from deploying X2Go to other users.Thanks,Josh

Printing remotely

I'm having problems printing remotely using x2goserver-printing + cups-x2go. I've enabled printing on the client side, then connected to my Debian 8 server via X2go. I've installed x2goserver-printing + cups-x2go on the server and restarted cups. When I try and send a test print from the server to my home printer, it doesn't work. Nothing is in the spool directory. It doesn't seem to ever reach the otherside. What should I do? from Michael

hi, I installed easily x2goserver and x2gobroker on two servers (OS Centos 7, x86_64). I tested it last week. It worked really well with a Linux x2goclient (fedora 31, x86_64)using : - a connection to the server through an ssh proxy with password. - a connection using a session from a x2gobroker server with the same login/password/server. I tried the same tests with a Windows 10 pro x2goclient. The first test, a connection to the server through an ssh proxy works fine. But, when my x2goclient use the session from the x2gobroker (same x2goserver/use/password), the connection failed. My client write the following error: failed to resolve the hostname ... (x2gserver) In fact, the x2goclient seems to try a direct ssh connection to the x2goserver without using the ssh gateway offers by my x2gobroker server. This case is fine with a Linux client. Is there a problem in my network windows configuration ? Client version is one of the last windows release (4.1.2..). I tried several versions. X2goserver and X2gobroker versions are the last from the official x2go repositories for debian/centos (broker 0.0.4.1-1 , server4.1.0.3) My command to excute x2cgoclient in windows 10 powershell "C:\Program Files (x86)\x2goclient\x2goclient.debug.exe" --broker-url="ssh://x2go-gateway.domain.fr:/usr/bin/x2gobroker --mode SSH" --add-to-known-hosts --portable --debug --libssh-debug --libssh-packetlog --disable-pulse --link=adsl X2go-gateway.domain.fr is an x2gobroker server, but also a ssh gateway to acces x2goservers on private network. You will find debug messages from the file attachment. I may just be too tired to see where is the error... Any advice, help are welcome.

Apologies - accidentally sent before completing Hi, I have a working installation of x2go, but there is some ugliness about the setup that I'd like to reduce. Any advice welcome. Here's how it looks at the moment. 1) vpn connection to the institute. 2) ssh tunnel to the workstation from the laptop 3) x2go connected to the local tunnel port This works, but we now have 3 layers of encyption. The reason for not pointing x2go directly at the w orkstation is the use of PaloAltoNetworking appliances within the institution. These do a man-in-the-middle break of ssh connections and lead to the following error from x2go: kex error : no match for method kex algos: server [diffie-hellman-group-exchange-sha256,diffie-hellman-group-exchange-sha1], client [curve25519-sha256@libssh.org,ecdh-sha2-nistp256,ecdh-sha2-nistp384,ecdh-sha2-nistp521,diffie-hellman-group14-sha1,diffie-hellman-group1-sha1] A direct ssh login works, but always falls back to a password. Is there any configuration option possible to have x2go/libssh handle the setup in the same way that regular ssh does? That would eliminate one encryption layer. Other recommendations greatly appreciated too. x2gokdrive and windows client

Yesterday I updated X2go on my Debian (4.1.0.4-0x2go1.2~git20200228.1815+9.heuler.1) and windows client (last stable from X2go download page), and saw there is an option to use x2gokdrive. I turned it on and tried to connect - but nothing worked, no desktop, no any errors etc. Is it supposed to work on windows client? -- З повагою, Михайло

Resizing remote desktop behavior

Hey, My setup is with a Ubuntu client and a Linux server and two monitors local. The session is MATE. Xinerama extension enabled. After connection the desktop is created and I have a window (not full screen) on one monitor. Then I stretch the remote desktop horizontally, by grabbing the right side (not the corner). I want it to stretch it occupying my two monitors, while leaving a little bit on space on all sides. The Xinerama extension works quite well. The panels stay on one (local) monitor. Cool feature! What troubles me is that the height is expanded at the same time while doing the horizontal stretch. Sometimes the bottom edge even disappears off-screen. There really is something funny with resizing that it keeps moving the bottom. Even when I move the desktop window as a whole by dragging the top bar, as you would normally move windows in Ubuntu Gnome. It seems to have a strong preference to make the remote height the same as the height of my local monitor. What is extra annoying is that working remotely (thanks to X2GO!) the feedback from the remote is not immediate. So it jumps to where you don't want it to be, before you have time to react. So, the question is, how do I stop it from snapping to the local monitor screen edges? -- Kees

Deactivate IPv6 in x2goclient

Hello, I have a non-working session defined in x2goclient and I guess that the reason why it is not working is that the client tries to connect to the server using IPv6. While the server does have a working IPv6 address, from my home computer I first have to use OpenVPN to get an (IPv4) address from within my organization's address space and only that I can login to the server. When using ssh from the command line, I use '-4" to tell that IPv6 shall not be tried; is there also a way to tell x2goclient to only try IPv4? Regards Christoph

Can't connect to server with user 'A' but with user 'B'

I'm using x2go server 4.0.1.20 with nxagent 3.5.0.32 on OpenSuse tumbleweed. I login with x2go client 4.1.2.2 on Windows 10. With User 'B' I can connect fine and the XCFE seesion is started properly. With User 'A' I get an error on the client: "The remote proxy closed the connection while negotiating the session. This may be due to wrong authentication credentials passed to the server." On the server the session.log is: Info: Agent running with pid '17266'. Session: Starting session at 'Fri Mar 20 13:38:52 2020'. Info: Proxy running in server mode with pid '17266'. Info: Waiting for connection from 'localhost' on port '30958'. Info: Aborting the procedure due to signal '1'. Error: Aborting session with 'Unable to open display 'nx/nx,options=/tmp/.x2go-hbs/C-hbs-58-15 84707931_stDXFCE_dp32/options:58''. Session: Aborting session at 'Fri Mar 20 13:39:52 2020'. Session: Session aborted at 'Fri Mar 20 13:39:52 2020'. Both user use the identical x2go session settings on the client and I tried both passwort and ssh key authentication for user 'A'. The password is working fine as I can login as user 'A' with a ssh client (Bitvise). What are possible causes that the two users behave diffently? Hi everyone, Is there a way to connect to a multi-display system (centOS) via X2Go (windows client) and select a single display to show? I'm using windows X2Go client v 4.1.2.0 (Qt- 4.8.6) to connect to a remote system (centOS 7.5 ****) with 4 physical displays, when I connect, I can see in full screen mode the entire graphical remote desktop (4 virtual remote screens stretched into my physical monitor), I'd like to know if is there a way to select one of these displays instead of all. In case, is there a Linux client version that allows me to do that? or a new windows client version (not found yet while searching on the net). Thanks in advance. Regards. libreoffice does not start with a user

Hi there! Libreoffice no longer starts for a user. It works for all other users. Starting in the terminal gives no message, it hangs endlessly. renamed home/.config/libreoffice, no change. The directory is created again when libreoffice is started again, but only after several minutes. In addition, I have the impression that after the user has logged in, the icons on the desktop only appear after a long pause. libreoffice libreoffice --nolockcheck libreoffice --safe mode all end without notification. There was a .lock file in home/username/.config/libreoffice that I deleted. Does somebody has any idea? Greeting, Olaf

Windows Defender and X2Go Client 4.1.2.2

I recently tried to download the latest X2Go client. Multiple browsers give an error on the download about the application being malware/virus. Further, I was greeted with Microsoft Windows Defender SmartScreen stating: "Windows Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting. Running this app might put your PC at risk." This is my first time downloading this version, so I don't know if this is an issue with SmartScreen or with the binary. I did not have this issue a couple of months ago when I downloaded 4.1.2.0.Thanks,Josh

Chrome warning now when downloading windows installer?

As soon as chrome finishes the download I get a message: dangerous, so Chrome has blocked it. message on the downloaded file. I have not gotten this in the past. Maybe your site has been hacked? Is there a md5 or sha1 hash that I can use that has a gpg signing that I can trust came from the developers? I've seen this with other open source software.

Copy and paste between systems stops working

Hello, My question is about not being able to copy and paste strings between two systems via X2Go. I have two systems which specifications are: * on the one side, a Linux system: - OS Debian (Buster) - x2goserver (v.4.1.0.3-4) - Openbox (v.3.6.1-8) * on the other side, a Windows system: - OS Windows (8.1 Pro) - x2goclient (v.4.1.2.0-2018-06-22) Here is the problem: as long as I copy and paste strings from the Windows system to a console (xterm) in the Linux system, it works fine. If I start, for example, "gvim foo.txt" which contains the string "foo", select "foo" with the mouse and try to paste it in a Gvim or a Notepad running on the Windows system, the string "foo" is not pasted in the Windows Gvim or Notepad. And starting from this point, I cannot copy and paste anything between the two systems. I have to close all the Windows in the Linux system, close the X2Go session and restart a new one to have copy and paste work again between the two systems. And, as soon as I open a document with Gvim in the Linux system, and try to copy and paste strings to and from it, it malfunctions again. Practically, it becomes very unhandy because I regularly need to copy and paste things that way between the two systems. Can you help me solve that problem? Thanks and best regards. -- Léa

http://packages.x2go.org/epel/ doesn't have a subdirectory for CentOS 8. Is there a better X2go repo for CentOS 8? I'm running pyhoca-cli-0.6.1.3 on the client and the server is running x2goserver-4.1.0. I understand that there is a known incompatibility between the two versions which has been fixed upstream.

On Centos 8 (and maybe other distros), nx-libs are installed under /usr/lib64/nx. x2gopath looks for them under /usr/local/lib/nx and returns an error when they are not found. Workaround: # cd /usr/local/lib/nx # ln -s /usr/lib64/nx/X11 Probably, x2gopath should be modified to look in both /usr/lib64 and /usr/local/lig.

no accessible desktop found

I set "connect to local desktop" to see other users sessions, but on some of the machines whose I try to connect (all of them has the same packets installed), I receive "no accessible desktop found", if I try instead "XFCE", I can establish a connection and have my own graphical environment. I've used x2go on linux (Fedora) for years and never experienced this before. I just setup a new workstation. When I suspend a session, the running processes started by it seem to sleep. A bit of googling suggested I need to edit /etc/x2go/x2goagent.options setting: X2GO_NXOPTIONS="sleep=0" I hope this helps: it hasn't yet. Will this only take effect after I terminate the current session and start a new one? -- *Those who don't understand recursion are doomed to repeat it*

Dear x2go users, Could somebody help me, please? I use Windows x2go client solution. From time to time there are network collisions and x2go client breaks and should be restarted. Server's sshd part is configured in order to keep alive ssh sessions. Other Windows ssh clients which have evident possibility for alive keeping timeout definition are configured too and restore ssh connectivity after network problem (ssh sessions are not broken). Unfortunately, I have not found where I can set correspondent timeout value for x2go client. So, where can I set the alive keeping timeout for x2go Windows client? Best regards, Yury

How can I resize windows?

Greetings. I use X2Go to run individual applications remotely. For as long as I can remember (seven or eight years, at least), I've never been able to resize these remote windows by dragging their edges with the mouse pointer. Whenever I try to do this, the window size increases by a few pixels at most and then stops. Is there some trick to this or is this a known bug? If it's a bug, is it a problem in X2Go or in my local window manager? (My client is running KDE Plasma and whatever its default window manager is -- KWin, I guess.) X-Video extension missing

On a client notebook with integrated Intel UHD-Grafik 605 running Windows 10 a video player complains that "it seems there is no Xvideo support for your video card available". And, indeed, xvinfo reports on the client: $ xvinfo X-Video Extension version 2.2 screen #0 no adaptors present So, is it VcXsrv which lacks the support or any of the X libraries? Is there anything that can be done about it, like loading a module or such?

Always get this error when starting remote desktop, still works though

I am running x2gp on an xubuntu 19.10 system to run another xubuntu 19.10 system's desktop. Whenever I start it up I get a pop-up window that says:- Connection failed. Cannot create remote file ~chris/.x2go/ssh/key.abiGan - SCP: Warning: status code 1 received: scp: ~chris/.x2go/ssh: No such file or directory But the remote desktop starts up OK. The directory ~chris/.x2go/ssh *does* exist and seems to have reasonable permissions and copying files to that directory using scp on the command line works OK. Just checked, I get the same error when running individual programs. While I'm here, another (very minor) issue, x2go leaves a dead symbolic link (i.e. points to a non-existent file) in ~/.x2go on the remote system every time it makes a connection. ... and it leaves a 'real' file of the same name in ~/.x2go on the local system. -- Chris Green

Being able to close the client and have computations still running in a GUI environment is great. However, I think we have encountered a bug. Some (but not all) of the long-running x2goagent processes start taking a lot of memory, ~30 GB. This adds up quickly so that the other users can't do their work. Below you can see how user3 and user7 have x2goagent processes with large memory use (RSS column). How can I go about debugging this? I have quite a bit of Linux experience, but I don't know where to start on this one since I don't know much about how x2go works internally. Server is on Ubuntu Server 18.04.1 LTS, (x2goserver 4.1.0.3-0~1708~ubuntu18.04.1). Hi everyone, I'm a newbie, I've installed x2go server on some multi-monitor machines and successfully accessed these machines. my x2go server version is: 4.1.0.3 I'm using x2go Windows client (4.1.2.0) to access these machines, I can see all active displays, but on my physical monitor I see them squeezed, in addition I can't see the mouse pointer. So my questions are: 1- is there a way to select a single active display from my client while trying to access a multi monitor machine? 2- is there some option to make the mouse pointer available and visible? x2go: Unable to find free display port or insert new session into database (revisited)

I found some good information here https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/467507/x2go-unable-to-find-free-di… but "x2godbadmin --recreate" is not working for me. I removed every package I could think of that might be interfering and purged them (x2go*, xorg*, nvidia, cuda, xvfb, ...) then reinstalled with no luck any time I try and connect I get Unable to find free display port or insert new session into database message. I am using ubuntu 16.04 I can not find what is preventing it on this one system. How can I enable more debugging so I can figure out what is going wrong? x2gobroker with broker-session-autologin: client tries to login with local username instead of given one

Hello, I am trying to configure the x2gobroker to do key-based login to the servers after sucessfull authentication against the broker. Everything looks fine, except the client. It tries to login with the correct key, but a wrong username. It uses the username from the local machine. e.g. - On my local machine, I am logged in as user "martin" - start the client with --broker-url=http://192.168.0.1:8080/plain/inifile/ - successfully authenticate with the username "udo" and a password against the broker - select the session -> login failed, so I do some research and the auth.log of the remote machine shows that I try to login with the broker-generated key, but the username "martin" instead of "udo" the profile in x2gobroker-sessionprofiles.conf: [TEST] user= host=pegbar1 (192.168.0.1) name=TEST command=KDE fullscreen = true broker-session-autologin=true broker-use-load-checker=true broker-authorized-keys=%h/.x2go/authorized_keys /var/log/x2gobroker/broker.log shows the key generation for user "udo": 2020-01-20 12:14:21,249 - broker - DEBUG - base_broker.X2GoBroker.get_authorized_keys_file(): found broker-authorized-keys in session profile with ID TEST: %h/.x2go/authorized_keys. On a long-running session that I've been connecting to / disconnecting for many times, this morning I'm getting the attached error message. Despite the error message, the x2go session seems to still be working. This is Fedora 31 linux client + server. x2goclient-4.1.2.1-4.fc31.x86_64

How to run a script that needs a terminal initially but is then a GUI (as a single application)?

I discovered x2go a year or so ago and I'm finding it very useful, thank you! :-) I'm running x2go client on an xubuntu 19.04 system and the server on an xubuntu 19.10 system. I have a short script on the server system which first runs encfs to create a file system and it then runs a GUI that uses the file system just created. How can I run this as a 'Single application' in x2go? The script is called 'digimax', I have tried running a terminal as the single application by putting the following command into x2go:- xfce4-terminal -x /home/chris/bin/digimax This successfully asks for the encfs password in the terminal window that appears but it then just disappears and no GUI app follows. The script /home/chris/bin/digimax works perfectly when run locally in a terminal window. Is there any way I can get x2go to run this for me as a single application? -- Chris Green

X2Go, Debian, Openbox - How run graphical clients as a simple user

Hello, I am using X2Go under Debian with Openbox. I have upgraded to Debian Buster, I didn't use to experiment the problem below with Debian Stretch. My problem is about running graphical clients (like xeyes, xterm, gvim, etc.) from a console logged in either as a "simple" user ("user_2" below) or as "root". "user_2" cannot run these clients, "root" can. I would like both of them to be able to run these clients. Below, is what happens ("user_1" is the user that started the X2Go session, it is also a "simple" user). user_1> su user_2 Password: No protocol specified xrdb: Resource temporarily unavailable xrdb: Can't open display ':50' user_2> exit user_1> su Password: root> xeyes <OK> Can you tell me how to allow "user_1" to run graphical clients like xeyes, xterm, gvim, etc.?
