Dear list, The instructions for installing X2Go on openSUSE systems on the wiki page at <https://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/wiki:repositories:suse> seem very outdated. The X2Go repositories only provide binaries up to openSUSE 15.1. These still worked on 15.2 in my hands, but at the current openSUSE release (15.3) support for Qt4 has been dropped and the X2Go repository binaries will no longer work on this distribution (unless it has been upgraded from 15.2, and the Qt4 libraries retained). The correct location for X2Go on SUSE systems now seems to be https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/RemoteDesktop:/x2go/<distro-version>/ as mentioned in this forum thread: <https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/555520-x2go-client-shared-librar…>. Perhaps someone with write access to the wiki could update the SUSE page? Regards, P.

Unable to start a desktop

Hello, I'm trying to repair the packaging of x2go in Mageia. It was functional in Mageia 7, but this is no more the case in Mageia 8 or cauldron (development version). I have tried 2 clients: x2goclient 4.1.2.2 and pyhoca-gui 0.6.1.1 packaged for Mageia 8. For the server, in a virtualbox VM, I tried to install the master version of x2goserver; through make && make install. I had to change the rights to add write credential on /var/lib/x2go and /var/lib/x2go/x2go_session I use also nxagent-3.5.99.25-1.mga8 and nxproxy-3.5.99.25-1.mga8 packaged for Mageia 8. Thus I have linked xgoagent to /usr/lib64/nx/bin/nxagent Using pyhoca, I can establish the session with the VM, either with the main user or with a test user, using password. But when I try to launch the desktop or a single application like Terminal, this fails. X11 fonts

I have been trying to run a legacy Motif application on a Fedora 33 VM, connecting using X2Go. With respect to using X11 core fonts, the Motif app works like the X11 xfontsel application. Connecting to the VM using X2Go, I tried to install the liberation fonts, but was unsuccessful. I installed them system-wide and in a local .fonts directory, but xfontsel did not see them. I updated the font search path to include the liberation fonts directory using "xset -fp", and this appeared to work ("xset q" showed the updated path), running "fc-cache" would list the liberation font directories, but xfontsel did not see the fonts. It appeared that running "fc-cache" reset the font search directory to the default, without the liberation fonts. I found a comment that with X2Go fonts need to be installed on both the client and server. The liberation fonts are on both. When I connect to the VM using "ssh -X" or "vncviewer" I am able to install X11 fonts and xfontsel shows them. (And the legacy Motif application sees them as well.) Can anyone tell me how to install fonts so that applications running under X2Go will see them? -- Michael Eager

Hello, Though I read https://www.mail-archive.com/x2go-user@lists.x2go.org/msg03049.html and when using 'Single application' or 'Published applications', and running Thunderbird (91.1.2) from a 4.1.0.3-5 x2go server running on an Ubuntu 21.10, to my XUbuntu 21.10 desktop, whatever setting I'm trying to use about the DPI has absolutely no effect on the fonts size in the published Thunderbird. They are significantly bigger, and don't change either when raising nor lowering the DPI setting. Is this something I could check somewhere in the logs, or does anyone has any advice about it? x2goagent segfaulting on client connect

I have a CentOS 7.9 system on which X2Go was previously working perfectly, but which is now broken. It broke after a typical yum update but I am not sure what changed to break things and I would like some help debugging and resolving this issue. I should mention that as part of my troubleshooting I have begun using NVIDIA kmod drivers from the ELRepo instead of ones installed from NVIDIA's .run file. The behavior I'm seeing in every failed connection produces the following log entries. Programs opening on wrong xserver

Hi all I'm having an issue where some apps open on the wrong screen. If I'm logged in locally on the physical machine, then log in via x2go, and start some software it opens (or tries to) on the physical display on the locally logged in account. I sshed in and made a new user, then connected via x2go and saw no issues. Has anyone seen behaviour like this before? It's very strange, and didn't happen before I upgraded to Ubuntu 21.10. Jake

I'm new to the mailing list and long time user of X2Go on the same HP Notebook. Windows 10. X2go is running over Pulse Secure as the VPN to a Remote Server. When starting X2go on my notebook there is no message other than an Application Event Log Error. I had a look for an X2Go Log file or dump that might give me a further lead to follow. I've attached that to the email. I also Had a look at the properties of the ntdll.dll That shows a fresh version - so that may be a pointer. Are there special compatibilities to be aware of ? Speed up inital x2go connection - takes about 10 sec to connect

Hi all, I installed the latest x2go windows client (on windows 10) and one x2go server on RHEL 8. I installed all necessary packages from RHEL and EPEL Repos and generally it’s working fine. I use ssh keys for password less authentification. All is currently on the same lan, no wan or something like this. It disabled sound, file sharing, printing and all on the x2go client (serverside all is default) and launch a single application .. firefox. When I click on the x2go Icon to start the connection, the client shows „connecting“ („Verbinde“ on german) and nothing happens inside the details log panel. After about 10 sec. a lot of messages are appearing and firefox starts in about 1 sec. Is there any possibilty to improve the inital connection? If I connect via putty all is fast without any delays. I searched a while the archive and just found this post: https://lists.x2go.org/pipermail/x2go-user/2020-October/006319.html <https://lists.x2go.org/pipermail/x2go-user/2020-October/006319.html> My nxagent is higher then the mentioned version: # dnf list | grep nxagent nxagent.x86_64 3.5.99.26-1.el8 @epel Are there any further possibilties? Expedite Windows x2go client close on loss of connection?

I frequently encounter connection interruptions. Each such interruption results in the x2go client freezing for about a minute before the notification window pops up to ask if I want to terminate the session or not. Upon confirming, it then takes another minute before the x2go window closes. Is there any way grab the x2go client by the scruff of the neck and make it go away the moment I notice it isn't responding to keypresses?

desktop sharing: would like to share (groups of) windows

I'm a new user and trying to share a session on different machines/displays. So, on the server I start a session, say DISPLAY=:50 from a client with a regular 1960x1280 screen. When I move to another machine/display, for instance using a 4K screen, I can share the desktop. I'm getting a 1960x1280 desktop with the windows on :50. That's not really what I want. Instead, I would like to get all :50 windows -without- having a special window for the desktop. Ideally I would like to move the windows :50 independently of the original session. Since, on the 4K screen, I prefer a different placement of windows. Ideally I would like to share a group of windows belonging to one part of the process-tree. Essentially this means that window positions should become client specific. Is something like this possible at all? Please note I'm not subscribed on this mailing list, I will watch the mail-archive now and then. P.S. desktop sharing leaves echoes of a moved window in the desktop, this is a bug I guess

Black screen with Fedora 34 KDE

I've created an LXD container with Fedora 34 and KDE. When I connect using x2go, I initially see a login screen (SDDM, I believe). After I log in, all I see is a black screen. No menu bars, no cursor. There's nothing interesting in the system log, but a .xsession-errors file was generated. x2go error after updating from Ubuntu 16.04 to 20.04

Dear everybody, yesterday I updated a server which is used by my team using x2go. The Linux update (Ubuntu 16.04 to 20.04) went well and everything is up and running. x2go works fine too but opening e.g., graphic user interface programs such as blender, paraview, or salome/freecad. The error for e.g., paraview, is: qt.qpa.xcb: X server does not support XInput 2. And a lot of other error messages. However, locally everything works quite well and hence, it should be related to x2go. Probably a lot of info is missing to get into the problem. In any case, I will provide any information one needs. If the desktop environment kicks it AFTER the x2go setting will be gone. You can check by running setxkbmap -query both INSIDE the session and locally. And you can fix it (temporarily) by running INSIDE the session "setxkbmap -model ... - layout ... -rules ... -variant ... -option ..." based on the values from your local setxkbmap. (leave out parameters your setxkbmap -query does not print). You can also run an test session where you just specify xterm as your "desktop environment". I am pretty sure the keyboard will be correct then. Can you confirm? I started once setting up x2goserver in a LXC container on a remote host and this, in some way, worked so far (except for using webbrowsers, which have only horrible performance and no sound) and even consoles have the right layout. Then I could not find an ytime to continue. Now, I setup x2goserver on thre computers, means, direcly like usually on the hardware (x2go: 4.1.0.3-4). All my boxes running debian10, kernel 5.10 running xfce, english setup, using a german keyboard layout. Shockingly, the keyboards are all wrong and unusable, there is, most prominent, no pipe character (and others are missed too, like the navigations keys, <alt-gr>, <del> but umlauts are correkt!). If you press <alt-gr> a beep ist issued. This happens to x-consoles as gui progs! XRDP, on the other hand, worked as before. I was unable to find documentation, which points out how this all works, how keyboard/maps are done by default on client and server, how this is initialized or how this could be changed and on which side (or a full shortcut reference). I tried to modify the settings on the client-gui (4.1.2.2 ) session configuration, but no variant (like "de-de") has influence at all. Thanks any way, Manfred

x2go client using 16% cpu when not connected

Hi, I noticed that x2go client uses 16% cpu and "high power" when run, even before connecting. When closed, cpu usage stops. This is on Alienware M13 R1, Windows 10. Weirdly the cpu usage shows under the "System" process in task manager. I have run sysinternals from Microsoft, and checked thread addresses that are active under the System processes. The processes are just kernel processes. And weirdly, System only shows as using 8% cpu in sysinternals, but 16% in task manager. Microsoft process monitoring is obviously lacking, unsurprisingly. Anyone else experience this, or have an idea what is going on? No viruses are reported. I work with x2go for many weeks and regularly put the session in "pause". This normally works well, but sometimes (randomly) I get, when resuming: Unable to create SSH tunnel for X2Go session (NX) startup: Error binding localhost:<port> I cannot find anything about this issue in .xsession-x2go-x2go-errors. There is nothing listening on localhost:<port> as reported and IIRC a new session after a reboot starts with display :50 but apparently it has changed to :51 What can I do to debug this? connecting to a just booted machine

Hello and thanks in advance to those who take the time to respond. I tried this before and it doesn't work. I have my x2go client machine and my x2go server. The server ( I have tried POP_Os, Ubuntu, LXLE and Lubuntu) and I am able to install it properly. My problem is that from the client side, I use my firewall to send a WOL pocket to turn on some of the machines which do not stay on 24/7. The ones that are always on I just launch the session and I am in. When I wake up a machine or reboots because of a power outage, I can use a terminal and log on to the machines via ssh. I open the ssh port on the firewall and I can log on just fine. This is the problem, while I can log on to the machine via SSH I can't connect with the x2go client right after the machine boots up. I have to manually walk to the machine and log on by entering my user name and password and then I can connect with the x2go client. This is not a problem in my local lab but it is a problem for the remote machines where there isn't always someone there to log on to the machine so I can then log on using the x2go client. Once logged in, no problem, I can lock the machine, put it to sleep, wake it again with WOL and log on with the x2go client again and again. Any suggestions as to where I can look at or what configuration setting to add or change so I can launch as session and get the log on screen of the server? Thanks again Charlie

Browsers (Firefox, chrome) stopped working in x2go sessions in CentOS7

Hi All, We had a problem , for a while now, that browsers do not work under x2go in our CentOS 7 servers. I think it started somewhere in Cent 7.6 and definitely stays on now in CentOS 7.9. The browser starts , but cannot create any child processes. So, no tabs, windows, or pages ever gets opened. Has anyone met this issue? What would be a way to troubleshoot it? Session not starting with Python 3 on Windows

Dear list, I am using the X2Go Python API to develop a custom UI for running our applications from Windows and Linux client machines. We are now migrating to Python 3. The client now works on Linux in Python 2 and 3 and on Windows in Python 2. I, however, can’t get it to work in Python 3 on Windows. I see that the official PyHoca GUI for Windows is still Python 2.7 so I am curious what is the current state of X2Go migration to Python 3 and whether there are some known issues. Speedup Desktop Performance

Hi everyone, I noticed that the desktop performance is relatively slow, especially also for direct connection to the local PC (X2Go-Client on Local machine connects to X2Go-Server on Local machine). My expectation is that such connection (possible only over the loopback device) should run very fast, but isn't. So why is this the case? The same issue I observed in the local network (at 1GBit speed). That means that connections over the global net can't be fast, if it is not possible with direct connections or local net, if there are some speed issues than the remote desktop is not usable anymore. I don't think that my PC is the bottleneck (Ryzen 3700 + 32GB RAM + PCIe SSD). Regards, Thomas

Connect to local desktop with larger resolution

Hi, I am connecting to my remote machine using X2Go. So far everything works fine but I can't figure out one detail. Namely the remote PC has two monitors attached with resolutions 1920x1200 and 1600x1200. This results in desktop resolution 3520x1200. My local desktop resolution is 2560x1440. Both PCs are running Linux. I have created a new session in X2Go Client with type set to 'Connect to local desktop'. No matter what resolution I set in session preferences, client creates a window with size 1921x1200. The contents of the remote desktop is scaled down to fit into that window. This is pretty much unusable since the remote desktop's resolution is so big. I expected it to create window with scroll bars and no scaling. Enabling or disabling Xinerama extension in session preferences does not help either. With it enabled I see content of both monitors, with it disabled I see content of one monitor with the remaining part of the remote desktop being blacked out. I checked all command line options and I could not find anything that would hint at solving my issue. Thanks for your help, Darko

nxagent SIGSEGV when running glxinfo (and firefox) on a host with cuda installed

We have some centos 7 systems with GPUs that users access with x2go to run their machine learning task. After an update to cuda on the centos 7 systems, nxagent now segfaults when I run glxinfo or firefox. nxagent-3.5.99.26-1.el7.x86_64 x2goserver-4.1.0.3-9.el7.x86_64 cuda-11.4.0-1.x86_64 kmod-nvidia-latest-dkms-470.42.01-1.el7.x86_64 What's also interesting is that if I x2go into a host that does not have cuda installed, and then: ssh -Y cudahost glxinfo then the nxagent on the non-cuda host segfaults. This happens with glxinfo and when trying to start firefox. google-chrome works fine. This was all working fine until I updated cuda and the GPU driver. On Centos 7.9.2009 This happens on a host with a K80 GPU and another host that has a V100 GPU. I also have cuda-11.4 on a Fedora 34 host with a V100 GPU. I'm having a problem resuming x2go sessions which now fails 100% of the time. The only way to use x2go is to kill all x2go processes on the server and restart x2goserver service, which causes the suspended session to be lost. This is driving me crazy. Any hints on how to debug this? Zoom Desktop Client will not start over X2Go

Hello, When I connect over X20go to my Debian 10.9 workstation and try to start the Zoom Desktop Client it crashes immediately without even showing up. If I start it on the workstation locally it starts without issue. Has anyone else run into this issue, and if so have you found a solution? Use case: Sharing a window on the remote system during a meeting. Sharing the entire x20go session window is not desirable. Thank you!

Hello, I'm running the following setup: X2Go Server 4.1.0.3-5 on Ubuntu 20.04 with XFCE X2Go Client 4.1.2.2-0 on Ubuntu 18.0.4 X2Go Client 4.1.2.2 on Windows 10 On the Linux client I have removed the directories ~/x2go and ~/.x2goclient. I now connect to the server and open a terminal windows. Pressing ALTGR + 7 gives me a "7", STRG+ALT+7 gives me a "7", too. Pressing the up arrow key, doesn't display the last command, instead I get the error, that xfce-screenshooter couldn't be started. High latency in Java based applications (dbeaver)

Hi, When using X2Go to work on Java-based applications (specifically, the Eclipse-based dbeaver dbeaver.io), there is a considerable latency. It's particularly sever when presenting dialogs, with some of them taking 3-8 second to appear (vs. <1 second locally). The raw latency from the machine to the server is quite low (10-15 ms), and: 1. Other application (via X2Go) work faster (although not completely latency-free). 2. The same program (dbeaver) works almost smoothly with other remote-desktops (e.g. NoMachine). How can this be debugged? What else can be done to improve it? Details: - which operating systems and versions are being used on the server and client, Server: Ubuntu 20.04. Shutting down a remote computer via x2go

Working at home I want to shutdown my remote computer in the office via x2go on Friday evening and switch it back on by WakeOnLan on Monday morning. But no matter if i try to switch the remote computer off by pressing the 'Shutdown-Button' in the window of the remote desktop or by entering the command "qdbus-qt5 org.kde.ksmserver /KSMServer org.kde.KSMServerInterface.logout 0 2 2" in the command line, the x2go-Server only logs me off instead of shutting down the remote computer. Performance issues + losing mouse click ability & keyboard events

Hi everybody, we currently have some serious issues with x2go on our servers, performance issues plus pretty much exactly what was described here: https://www.mail-archive.com/x2go-user@lists.x2go.org/msg04009.html We have two servers running Ubuntu20.04 LTS with xfce4 (lightdm) with barely any issues for almost 6 months. In the past weeks, several users experienced serious performance issues, followed by the issue that mouse and keyboard are unusable. This issue seems to be resolved (until it appears again) by killing all user processes and logging in again. If I simply quit from x2go client side and reconnect, the issue remains. I don´t see anything "obvious" in the logs, but tbh I don´t even know what I´m looking for. I´m currently trying to reproduce these issues on a VM, but no luck (yet). Someone got an Idea?
