Hello, all I've currently seen is that one has to install x2goserver on the server. Can I also install x2goserver (or maybe some other software) on a debian6 machine if I only have an ordinary linux account on the server, but no root access? Ralf

Are logcheck rules for x2goserver available somewhere?

Hi, I just discovered x2go while looking for an alternative to vnc. I got it working but I have not yet managed to share the same desktop between 2 users. If I understand it right I should install the x2godesktopsharing component. I followed the instructions found here (http://www.x2go.org/doku.php/wiki:components:desktop-sharing) but there is no x2godesktopsharing candidate to install. run commands on the x2goclient

Hi guys, I've been playing with X2go for a while now, and have a Thin Client Environment(TCE) that I PXE boot from, or copy to USB and boot via syslinux (after I've changed the initramfs.conf and regenerated the initrd so it boots locally rather than via nfs). But Although X2go works well, its still not fast enough for watching videos. My solution was to put mplayer on the TCE and pipe video to it at the moment with netcat, but Ill probably move to a multicast solution when I get all of the other issues sorted. So on the client I need to run the command netcat $SERVER $PORT | mplayer -display 0:0 - now whilst I can open up a console terminal, log into the x2goclient user and run the command, or write something that does the same it would be nice to run a command from within the x2go-session that does just that. Ive tried using x2goruncommand but it seems to kill of my currently running session. Is there a supported way to run a command locally, from withing an established x2go session, or do I have to code something up myself Thanks Paul Daniels

session resuming after disconnect/reconnect

Hi, when a session gets disconnected (e.g. network connection is lost, computer is powered down, without disconnect) I cannot simply resume the session after the next connect. I have first to pause the session, that wait a long time (don't know exactly how long, but needs to be more than 30-60 seconds) and than I am able to resume the session. If I simply pause/resume the session or try to take it over, the operation fails and the session is closed. Looks like after the pause of the old session, something does not get terminated correctly and needs to timeout before I can resume the session. Simply pausing/resuming a session works without problems, as long as the ssh session isn't closed in between. It also works if I pause the session, than disconnect the ssh connection. Than I can resume after I have reconnected to the server. Regards Gerald

ssh parameter?

Hi, I am using PyHoca on Windows. Sometimes pyhoca disconnects from a server (while for example putty keeps connected to the same server). I guess there is some time out or keep alive that is too low, so the session gets disconnected, when the connection is unreliable. This there some way to configure the ssh parameters (e.g. configfile)? Also for some host the ssh host key has been saved and for others every time I connect I have to answer yes to accept the host key. Is there any way to tell pyhoc to save the host key? x2gothinclient problems

Hi! I'm a new x2go-user. I tried to install a x2go-server which contains also a netboot image for many thin clients. I followed the documentation of the web page http://www.x2go.org/doku.php/wiki:components:tce I get a lot of errors. First of all I observed that the command x2gothinclient_preptftpboot generates a few files which are symlink to other files. These files are not visible by a tftp link (which is the initial step of a net boot). So I have changed the links with hard links. Furthermore the symlink are not corrected. They seem defined with respect the /opt/x2gothinclient/chroot directory. With the hard links the thin client boots correctly and the x2gothinclient program starts. But when I try to connect to my x2goserver I get an error message like this: proxy problem etc ... In the server side in the file /var/log/auth.log I get the following message When I use an installed debian distribution with the x2go client I get access to the x2goserver. Kde4 and Plasma Mess - Is anyone working with it?

Hi dear, Fellows. i've been working with x2go for some time, but now i'm entrenched with KDE4 after many years with KDE3 running great with nomachine. KDE4 is still a mess nowadays. As anybody knows KDE4 has lots of problems with sizing and resizing of plasma panels, screen geometry and other stuff as usal. So i had to code lots of scripts that take use of x2goserver-run-extensions: What these scripts do is resize the plasma-panel and resize the screen geometry when resuming a session in case of the resuming is done in another Desktop or laptop with a change in resolution. My problem is that for plasma to assume the new resolution you have to kill it and start-it once again after you change plasma-desktop-appletsrc with the new values. So, when you do this after resuming the session, every time you move/maximize/minimize a window they slow to a crawl. How to test/reproduce this sympton. If you have a x2goserver installed with a kde4 session, kubuntu or other, start a session, go to konsole and do: kquitapp plasma-desktop && plasma-desktop & after plasma start if you try to move any window around everything will be allright and fast as before. After that do the same thing but after a x2gosuspend and in a runing resumed session try to move your konsole window around the desktop, it will lag like hell. If you this on a real display on your laptop, or in a running session everything will run fast as before. P.S: i'm sending this same email to both user & dev mailing list. Compositing, Saving Sessions - xfce

I am not able to make compositing work in xfce. No transparency, shadowing, etc. Not even the needed settings. I'm thinking it has to do with this in .xsession-x2go-errors: xfwm4-WARNING **: The display does not support the XComposite extension. Is there some way I can make this work? Also my xfce sessions are not being saved when I terminate an x2go window. I suspect this is because X is crashing on logout before the session can be saved. Has anyone had this experience? Laptop to Server keyboard map doesn't work

I have x2go installed on a server system, a desktop and a laptop. All using 3.99.2.2, all running Linux Mint (Ubuntu variant). When I connect from the desktop to the server, the keyboard maps just fine - all keys work as expected. When I connect from the laptop to the server however, the keyboard map is messed up - home/end keys don't work, arrow keys map to other random keys etc. I cannot figure out why this is happening, and no combination of the x2go keyboard settings seems to change the result. I have noticed when connecting from the laptop to the server if I check the keyboard map when connected I get "null". Trying to change it results in an error from the keyboard daemon for changing the xkbmap. Is there anything I can do to try and debug this? It seems very odd that it goes so wrong from computer, but is perfectly fine from another, since the keyboards on both are configured to use the same generic 105-key layout.

x2gognomebindings package installation on ubuntu 12.04 fails

I just installed x2go on a clean ubuntu 12.04 "precise" install. The installation of the package x2gognomebindings fails with an error. Luckily the workaround on John Wesoricks page works: sudo cp /etc/xdg/menus/gnome-settings-x2go.menu /etc/xdg/menus/gnome-settings.menu sudo apt-get install x2gognomebindings As the bug is known since November 2011 I would be grateful if whoever maintains the package would fix this. thanks a lot, Mark

Thanks, this works. But I've never used XFCE before, and read on the listserv that starting it in x2go a certain way results in low-quality graphics. Questions on possible setups and use cases

Hi list I'm a newbie on x2go. I tried to find some answers in the wiki and the docs but I have still some questions: First of all, I found the mail archive; is there also a searchable archive like nabble or so? I was able to setup the x2go-server and also to connect with a single windows xp-laptop, so this went fine. Basically, I try to determine if x2go suits our needs and what setup would be needed for it: We have an application server (Ubuntu 10.04) and we need to bring some of the applications on this server in a windows 2008 terminal server environment. So my questions are: Will the client work on window terminal without conflicts between the different users? Is it possible to have sessions to different applications for the same user? We have about 100 potential users, about 10-20 concurrently working with about 100-200 sessions a day. Is it possible to estimate on the resources that are needed on the server? PyHoca, X2Go Server (Ubuntu 12.04) sound problems

Hey all, I have a Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop running in an KVM environment with X2Go. Everything is working great but the sound redirection doesn't work. I have assigned a soundcard to the KVM machine which is detected correctly by Ubuntu. First I tried to use PulseAudio as transport in PyHoca but this doesn't worked. I googled a few minutes and found that there are often problems with PulseAudio, so I installed esd to test with esd. This also didn't worked. So for now I don't know what could be wrong. The X2Go server scripts for PyHoca and python-x2go scripts are installed on the server, I can control the sound options on Ubuntu (also in the X2Go session not only from the VNC console) but no sound is there. The client system is Windows 7 at the moment with the newest PyHoca version. Does someone has an idea what could be wrong and what I have to do to get sound input and output to work? Hope that someone could help me. Best Regards

Using x2go on different clients

Hi there, Us anyone experience problems with different Ubuntu and Windows 7 environments on client side? I notice two differences when running x2go from Ubuntu and Windows 7: - if you run from the first time after the reboot using from Windows 7 when running the client on Ubuntu your screen will be fullscreen and you can't use the numbers on the numpad keyboard. - if you run from the first time after the reboot from Ubuntu, you cannot use numpad on Windows (and the @ sign) So, if you start your remote computer with one of them, you better not try to use another because some funtions will break. Does anyone know about this problem or something similar? Workarround for dead keys, euro's, etc

Hello, Since some time the dead keys don't work anymore in an X2go session. This seems to be a problem of "xkeyboard-config" from version 2.6. Is there a workarround for this problem? Is it an idea to use an older x2goagent with xkeyboard-config 2.5? Any other nice way to give in special characters like the euro sign? Incorrect keymapping?

With the most recent versions of x2go on Linux I've been having enormous difficulty with the keymap not being correctly applied - that is, the arrow keys, delete keys, home and end etc. appear to be mismapped between client and server, regardless of what I set the Keyboard settings to in the x2go client. I'm using the Qt client 3.99.2.2. Does anyone know what the cause of this is? The machine I'm connecting from is a laptop, but that shouldn't be fundamentally changing the keycodes x2go reads?

Raspberry Pi and acceleration of X2Go

Hi I recently bought a Raspberry pi and have been using it as a thin client with X2go with the config script found here: http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=13130 While working ok. X seems to max the cpu as soon as you start pulling windows around and it the experience is quite laggy. I'm looking for solutions for this. The raspberry does not have hardware accelerated X yet. Is this what is causing it? Is there a way I can use the hardware OpenGLES 2 directly? At my workplace we are considering x2go for thin clients and were looking into using the Raspberry pi as a client :-) What can I do to make it perform better. cheers Pascal

In the past months we skipped some minor announcements of release that were related to inclusion of some X2Go components in Debian (being available wheezy, partly in jessie). >so it's not clear to me if it's looping serverside or clientside. i'm not quite prepared to dive in with gdb myself, if there's something not quite that deep i can help with say so, meanwhile i'm still using plain vanilla vnc via portforwards, a bit slow and clunky but it just works. i look forward to the speed advantage and rootless handiness of nx/x2go, the portforwards are easy to me thus i'm not at all interested in nx session handling, too bad that's the part that's broken and keeping me from using it, i wish there were a way to just manually connect like vnc..

PyHoca resume session which was started on another client/pc

Hello all, I have a question about PyHoca. When I have two PCs for example one at home and one at work and start a session with PyHoca on the PC at home, why can't I resume this session with the PyHoca on the PC at work. Is there a way that makes it possible to resume this session at the PC at work or something like this? So I always have to start a second session and thats not the best because so I can't use already running programs with the state they have in the first session. Hope that someone can help me. xming 6.9.0.31 keeps crashing

Hi, I use x2go a lot on Windows, but have noticed that the xming server keeps crashing from time to time, usually when I seem to have firefox open in the session with lots of tabs. It takes me usually some effort to close the tabs, as it keeps crashing and crashing. Is there a workaround for this? This is with X2go client 3.01-2 on Windows. I know this is an old version of X2go, but when trying the new version, they both fail on Linux and Windows with the error "cannot open X screen" or something. (do I have to upgrade the x2go server too, might that be the problem to be able to use the new client? I depend on x2go and use it long hours every day so breakage is annoying) Thanks, Markus

can i somehow bypass all the x2go session handling, just "manually" launch something on the remote host, and then connect to it, perhaps even via an ssh tunnel i setup myself? (just like i've been doing with vnc for years, also xpra works this way, too bad it crashes)

Hi, I wonder if there is step-by-step guide to set up a simple x2go one server ubuntu to print from the wan (without using vpn conection). If you use this guide http://www.x2go.org/doku.php/wiki:components:printingthe server works right if you are printing from the same net or connected by vpn connection. What's port have you open in the firewall? Is there some extra configuration to do it? I tried opening ports in /usr/bin/x2gostartagent (the specified and the next 100 more) but client side doesn't receive the file after you print. Hello, the following problem is still remaining. Is there no solution?: ^At the moment we are buildung up a x2go environment. It should contain TFTP-Boot, LDAP-Auth and Load Balancing. ^the tftp-boot is working (the login-client appears). But now i have following problem: ^It's not possible to connect so the server (from the syslinux image, which is booting over tftp). X2go keyboard layout

Hello, I'm using the stable release of x2goserver from ppa for Lucid LynX distribution. Connection via last Windows x2goclient is correct but my keyboard is messy. if from the client I check no keyboard ovverride, then my french Altgr Key isn't working as expected. If I force french keyboard, Altgr is working. Anyway, the NumPad isn't working at all. Is there any solution ? Thank oui.

i have x2goclient and x2goserver working fine in ubuntu. i also have installed x2goserver in rhel6, the installation seemed successful. when i try to open a session to it, x2gostartagent is launched on the server, but it never completes, x2goclient waits forever, and nothing happens. what can be done? what should be tried? thank you, greg
