Hi, I am new to X2go... I'm trying to make a connection to a pure CentOS on VMware cloud from Windows. I'm impressed by the settings in the session manager but actually couldn't make the two big things I like the most to work: 1. File sharing 2. Client side printing support I tried sshfs with dokan successfully, so that's not the problem. My X2go client was downloaded today from x2go.org (latest_mswin-setup). Any ideas what to could I miss at the server, what on the client side... or what kind of other information should I write out (and probably it will do me good if the how to is included then too). x2gobroker: war of passwords

Hi, I am running x2gobroker with SSH proxy and right now users have to type: 1) broker username and password 2) desktop and username and password 3) proxy password A lot of typing for just a simple desktop connection! I've learned I can use ssh key autologin somehow (didnt try yet) so step 2 will be gone. Is there a way to have x2goclient reuse the broker password for the proxy connection or something else to remove the ssh proxy authentication without distributing private keys to the users? cheers Mathias

Mounting USB sticks and CD-ROMs on thin clients, sound

Hello, I am trying to set up an x2go server with thin clients (debian wheezy). For the most part, the clients are working fine - the boot time and speed is astonishing even with the low-power server hardware I need to use. Alas, there are a few important things I cannot get to work after days of googling and tinkering: 1) mounting local drives on the thin clients - When I insert a cd-rom, a little eject button appears in the lower right corner of the screen. However, I cannot see the files on the disc in /home/<user>/media/cd - When I insert a FAT formatted USB stick, nothing (visible) happens. Only in the local console can I see that a device has been attached, but nothing is mounted, and nothing shows up in /home/<user>/media/disk The x2gousbmount and x2gocdmanager are installed in the chroot, and <user> was added to the fuse group. Are there other prerequisite packages on the server that I could have missed? 2) Sound on the thin clients doesn't work - upon PXE boot, the sound card seems to be correctly detected; I checked alsamixer. Pulse connects correctly via TCP, but pactl lists no sound card. It seems that module-udev-detect fails to detect the sound card. I don't know how to get debug output because I cannot find where the actual command line (pulseaudio -D -n -L module-native-protocol-tcp [...] ) is generated in the chroot to add more debug output PulseAudio Manager reports "Default Sink: not set"; "Default Source: not set". Those issues are real showstoppers for a project I am trying to set up in Africa next week - I'd be really thankful for hints on how to solve them. Peter

no menu with gnome fallback

Hi all, A new install of ubuntu 12.04, all updated. Installed latest all dependencies, x2goserver and x2goserver-xsession Have multiple users so I am trying to set gnome fallback as the default desktop globally by modifying etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf Have this in there now : [SeatDefaults] #greeter-session=unity-greeter #user-session=gnome-fallback gnome-session --session=gnome-fallback The "greeter" line is a mystery to me? I've run it and commented it out. Doesn't seem to make a difference that I have noticed. Basically the gnome classic desktop loads but no menu or task bar. In the client I'm using custom desktop option with "gnome-session --session=gnome-fallback" and also gnome-session --session=gnome-session-fallback" I've got the screen size of the client set to 600X800. One odd behavior I noticed is that when the session is loading the window is, indeed, 600X800 but by the time it has fully loaded it has gone completely full screen. I tried lowering the resolution, which keeps it going to full screen, but there are still no top or bottom toolbars. I'm running Windows 8 on a Toshiba 64 bit laptop. OS X and proxy server option - can't connect

Hi All: I am using the proxy server option on x2go, and have gotten it to work on Windows and Debian, but not OS X and hope to get some help. In my tests: - I use the same server, same ssh keys etc. and connect from Windows and Linux (Squeeze) - from a command prompt on OS X, I can connect by issuing: ssh -X -A -t externaluser@externalIP ssh -A -X internaluser@internalIP - bash is the default shell on my Mac - however, when we try to connect via the x2go GUI, it gets stuck saying "Connecting" and goes no further until I close the session (for what it's worth, it's not a "forced quit" so I don't think the session has crashed, just won't connect). FYI - on linux, on the "client", I issue the following before trying to connect the first time on both keys and have tried this on OS X as well with "no joy": NewUserVar=newuser PathVar=/home/newuser/.ssh/newuserfolder chmod go-w /home/$NewUserVar chmod 700 /home/$NewUserVar/.ssh chmod 600 $PathVar/id_rsa ssh-add $PathVar/id_rsa Any suggestions? connection problem on Ubuntu 12.04

Hi all, I have a fresh install of ubuntu 12.04 where I installed x2go server. I have a laptop running Lubuntu 12.04 where I installed the client. I can ping the server from the client but cannot connect. The only error message I get is "Connection refused". I've re-installed both server and client a couple of times now. Help please! Big screen problem

Dear x2go-user, I bought a big 2560x1440 screen (big in my world). Remote system have a 1920x1200 screen. I tried to go full screen but noticed that I can't change the remote desktop resolution to more than 1920x1200. So I can't really go full screen. Is there something I haven't noticed? Where does that limit come from? Is it really the size of the remote physical screen or just coincidentally the same geometry? Now, that I'm practically forced to work in a window, I'm really missing a feature like there is in VirtualBox: You can grab mouse and keyboard into the virtual desktop. I'm mostly missing ALT-TAB functionality inside the remote desktop window. I wish that some day someone have the time and interest to code such a feature. Despite of those little annoyances X2Go have served me very nicely quite a long time now - thanks. -- Timo

No RHEL5 x2goclient?

Since I can't install the x2goserver on RHEL5, I was hoping to at least install a client that will get some users to RHEL6/Ubuntu machines. When I try to yum install x2goclient I get a message that no x2goclient package exists. Sure enough when I browse the repo, there is no x2goclient package. I can't even install pyhoca-gui because it needs things from x2goclient (per the README at least). Anyone have any alternatives? -Kermit Short

I did some further testing, and the resume failures are indeed due to missing AFS tokens. When suspending a session, the SSH connection is closed, sshd will call pam_close_session(), which means that pam_krb5 and pam_afs_session will delete the user's ticket/token (resp.). The session therefore loses access to the home directory and appears to freeze up, preventing it from being resumed. Both pam_krb5 and pam_afs_session accept retain_after_close as a parameter, which disables the delete-on-close behavior. With this parameter set, it becomes possible to resume sessions, unless the AFS token has expired. This solves at least the case where the user reconnects quickly (eg. after a short network outage), but it still means sessions will become unresumable when left unused for a few days. I guess the only way to avoid this is to not store session data in the home directory. Can X2go be configured such that it uses eg. /tmp or /var/lib for this purpose?

Mac OS X 10.8.3 x2goclient 4.0.1.x session keyboard input issue

Hi, I am running the latest x2goclient (4.0.1.x) for Mac OS X (10.8.3) and have noticed an unusual problem relating to keyboard input when starting a configured session for the second time. The first time a session is started, the username and password can be typed but when you exit the session then launch it again (without exiting x2goclient) keyboard keystrokes do not appear in the username and password fields. If you exit x2goclient then start it again it works but only once. In case it helps, I noticed I can paste text into the field. Has anyone else observed this? I have tried using the latest stable release of the X server, XQuartx 2.7.4 and the latest beta release 2.7.5_rc2 with the same results. I did not want to lodge a bug report yet in case it was something particular to my installation or setup. Hello, I am looking for a solution to provide secure authentication / mail signing etc on a central place, so I researched the actual available OS-Solutions for this task. I have a smart card reader built into the client which I want to use for: - authentication at the Terminal Server - "taking" my smart card with me to authenticate at further destinations (connection is initiated at the Terminal Server). What I found out is, that the upcoming version of nx can do such a thing and the commercial solutions offer also this functionality (Windows only, Citrix, Oracle SDG …) Is it possible with x2go to forward the smart card (reader) to the terminal server in a secure way to use it for further actions? x2goclient on Windows crashes

Hello, We are trying to run a Java program from x2goclient on Windows in application mode. Using version 4.0.0.3 in Windows XP, x2goclient crashes everytime with the following message: "vcxsrv.exe encountered a problem and needs to close." Using version 4.0.0.3 in Windows 7, it works without any problem. Using the preview version (4.0.1.0-pre02) on Windows XP it works properly most of the time, but sometimes crashes too. Any idea ? Possible problem with printing & newer versions of Adobe Acrobat

Hi All: Has anyone had trouble printing with the newer versions of Adobe acrobat (e.g., "X") with the following symptoms: - connect up to server over ssh from windows (x2go version 4.0.0.3) - open a document from the x2go session and print - on the client, Adobe flashes briefly (if check "Show this dialog before start printing", get the dialog box) - nothing comes out the printer (have tried USB and network printers) As best I can tell, a link is created in the Adobe reader "Open a Recent File" page on the client. If I click on this link in Adobe, I can then open and print the file as long as the x2go session is active. Once I shut down the x2go session, the link no longer works. Also, if I print as a .PDF, the file is generated on the client as a pdf, I can print it, and the file stays on the client. I.e., the print jobs used to go directly to the printer. Currently, I have to "print twice". Not a "hair on fire", but was wondering if there is a way to address this (possibly even in the Adobe settings, but ideally from the server). Does this sound like possibly a change in Acrobat? Or something I need to check on the x2go client or x2go server side? Thanks!

New feature for next PyHoca-GUI release (0.4.0.9): passphrase protected SSH keys

Hi all, today I have added a new (long waited for) feature to PyHoca-GUI. So far, in PyHoca-GUI (python-x2go) it was only possible to use passphrase-protected / encrypted SSH keys via an ssh-agent process that unlocks those keys when being added to the agent's keyring previous to logging into an X2Go Server. Unlocking those keys natively in PyHoca-GUI was not possible so far. -> Now it is!!! The nightly built packages are currently building and the 0.4.0.9 preview of PyHoca-GUI will soon be available for testing this new feature. Within the next couple of days I will add the pendant feature to PyHoca-CLI. Those of you using PyHoca-GUI may test this new feature by encrypting your private key file... $ ssh-keygen -p ... and then using this key file in PyHoca-GUI. Don't add your key(s) to ssh-agent to see the new passphrase dialog pop up. WARNING: Make sure you do not forget the password for unlocking the key, otherwise your key will be lost. It surely is a good idea to make a backup of your SSH key files before playing with this. can't get pulseaudio working on 64bits windows7

I installed x2go client 3.0.0.4 out-of-the-box on a windows 7 64bits PC. Everything works fine but pulseaudio. When I install the same image on a 32bits windows7 PC pulseaudio renders good sound. This is consistent for all 64bit PC's I tried. Anyone has a clue? Thanks, philip

How to dynamically resize the session display ?

Hi, I'm trying x2go to be connected on an GNOME desktop. The gnome-control-center tool allows us to dynamically change the resolution of the remote desktop. This immediately resizes the window of the x2go viewer. Unfortunately, this causes strange effects regarding the gnome desktop: the taskbar and the menu bar are truncated, dialog boxes are no more centered, etc. It is as if information about the new resolution were not propagated to gnome. Is there a better way to do that? (Is it a bug regarding the implementation of xrandr?) PS: It has nothing to do, but I've seen that x2goclient has an "maximize" option. Unfortunately this affect only the window of the session manager. It would be nice if the window of x2goagent could also be maximized (and not only fullscreen or at custom resolution). Isn't it? No connection to remote proxy with x2gothinclient

Hi, i setup a X2go Server on Kubuntu 12.04 with x2gothinclient enviroment. I can connect to the server from my notebook with Kubuntu 13.04 and X2goClient, it woks fine. But i have a problem with the thinclients. They boot and the X2go client starts. I can select a session an enter username and password. Then i get this error: Could not yet establish the connection to the remote proxy. Do you want to terminate the current session? Yes / No Both options bring me back to the same error message. What's my mistake? Login via ~/.ssh/authorized_keys fails

Hi, I am looking for input on how to set up an ssh key-based authentication. I generated an RSA key pair with puttygen and added it to ~/.ssh/authorized_keys2 => confirmed that I can login with putty. Now, I specify the same private key in x2goclient (windows). I enter my password and I am then prompted for the password of the ssh key. I enter it and the same ssh key password prompt reappears. This seems to be an infinite loop. When I cancel it, I get a message saying that only publickey is supported as login method (which corresponds to my sshd_config settings). I then tried renaming ~/.ssh/authorized_keys and using a DSA key pair. putty still works as expected with both of these alternatives. x2goclient still shows the same problems however. It only lets me login if I adapt my sshd_config and authenticate via user / password combination. Is this a known limitation? What is the best way to achieve high security? Hi Mike, I'm glad to help. A really cool tool like X2go deserves a really great documentation. I am always amazed how few people (especially here in the Westcoast of the US) don't know X2go. I have been using it for a long time now, but might be a little shaky in the internals. What I am good at though is seeing both the developers side and the users side and be able to bridge it in documentation. One thing that I would think would work great is to have an into page in the wiki, called "New to X2go? Start here! What is X2go and what does it do?" I would write a little thing there about how Linux was basically always the perfect Terminal server, BUT no easy free framework ever existed to use it. That we used to envy RDP on Windows and that we now got the same thing and much better on Linux. I especially want to point out what it can do (like thinclient support which is super cool). On some details I might have to ask you a few things, what what is, since I have seen that you added a ton of new features that I am not even aware what they do (I for example never used the desktopsharing function) I would also like to do a bit there where I do a little FAQ like: I got X11 forwarding over ssh, why do I need X2go? (A think I hear all the time from people) and point out what it can do more. Redirect only specific sound devices?

Hi all, for a headless system I am trying to run a headset locally on it. For operation I have used x2go which works perfect, even for sound. So this solved the headache with KVM ;-). Now I would like to use a headset locally on the headless system which is connected via USB and its own usb sound card (Logitech, works always perfect!). I am unable to get the headset to work while being connected to via x2go. Headset should be primarily for voip. So, how I could use this headset? Is it possible to configure somehwere that not all sound devices should be redirected but only specific ones? With this I could try to leave out the headset sound card. Thanks for any help, Matt

Hi list, Inspired by Kermit Short's posting a week ago, I tried to install x2goserver on RHEL 5 (x86_64) today. Missing dependencies I installed manually. Hi all, currently we have two releases pending: X2Go Client and PyHoca-GUI. Both projects are still hoping for people working on their translations: X2Go Client: -> Russion translation (Alex? Nable?) PyHoca-GUI: -> Dutch translation (Anyone?) The Dutch translator for PyHoca-GUI is currently on vacation, so maybe someone else can jump in? I will release those versions on 26th August (Monday next week) if no more translations come in. If you have any questions on X2Go translation work, please contact me personally (or subscribe to x2go-i18n ML [1] right away and ask there). Furthermore, we have a couple of translations incomplete. Thanks to those who provided the work in the first place!!! However, I hope that there are people on our mailing lists who feel entitled to continue the work: X2Go Client: French, Chinese/Taiwan (zh_tw) PyHoca-GUI: French If you run your computer in your local language and X2Go Client / PyHoca-GUI appear(s) in Englisch on your screen, you may also feel entitled joining the X2Go i18n / translation team. Advice needed on a somewhat working x2go configuration

Hi, I need a GUI application (RetroShare) to start on boot on my headless server (Debian Wheezy up to date with x2go repos) and be available remotely. I got it working with the scripts below but it's cumbersome. Is it how it is supposed to be done ? I only encounter two issues apart from the complexity : -- x2goclient (v4.0.1.0 on my PC) resolution is ignored and Xvfb startup resolution (900x550) is used even after it has been killed. -- Caps Lock cannot be used, because once it has been, it stays on. X2goclient: Bringing up NX3 proxy failed.

Hi, my x2goclient stopped working a day ago and I cannot get it to connect to my x2goserver. X2goclient on Windows works, so it must be a Linux client problem. I removed and reinstalled the client, tried it as another user, purged config, all to no avail. When using x2goclient, X2Go client V. 4.0.1.0 (Qt - 4.8.2) on server: 4.0.1.6-0~x2go1+wheezy~main~712~build1 I get this message: Can't load translator (:/x2goclient_en_us) ! Missing Dependencies while installing on RHEL5

Greetings, I'm trying to install on 32 & 64 bit RHEL5. I've downloaded the RHEL5 repository file but when I try to install x2goserver, I get a dependency conflict on perl(Sys::Syslog). Apparently I do have a version of the perl module installed that's insufficient. When I try to install an upgraded version, I get a package conflict with Perl itself. Has anyone seen this? More importantly, has anyone found a work around? Thanks! -Kermit Short

Hello, I am running 3.99.2.1 on Win-7 64 bit, accessing a Linux desktop locally. Worked fine for a while although I some time got an error which is not persistent: when connecting to the session I get: Xserver aborted due to an unsafe environment. Win was started with the following command line: (null). A quick google of the error brings me to the parsing the args of the x-server. Is the x-server being started with a wrong command line ? Is this an x2go issue or xwin ? If any one can tell me how to collect more info, much appreciated. Thanks Gertjan

Mac OS X client and ssh-agent?

Are others seeing the behavior I am? I have an open x2go session running and leave my computer for a while. When I return, the session has timed out and I get the dialog asking if I want to close it. But, when I close it and try to re-open a new session, it fails to connect. Only after I go to a terminal shell and kill the ssh-agent process does it re-connect. I am using password authentication, and it works fine after stopping ssh-agent. Is there some setting I have wrong?

Hey Roland, I'm sorry but I'm quite busy right now. Following things to try: Kill all sessions on your server. Use the root command to list all users sessions with: sudo x2golistsessions_root Delete all involved users .Xauthority files. If you've got hanging sessions left, manually execute x2goterminatesessions with the ID. Make the x2goserver logging level to debug in /etc/x2go/x2xgoserver.conf Reboot the machine. Then open a new Master Session -> KDE or xterm, whatever.. Use the root command again to make sure it's known by the x2goserver. Then start the Shadow Session to the Master Session. I received the following error message while attempting to connect: Connection failed sh: 1: Syntax error: "(" unexpected x2go had been working correctly. I assume that some shell script got corrupted. Does anyone know what shells script get calls when x2go connects? The error appears in a popup window in the x2go client. thanks PS my configuration is Server: Debian wheezy xfce4 x2goserver 4.0.1.3-0 Client: OS X 10.7.5 MacPorts x2goclient.app 4.0.1.0
