I run synergy (http://synergy-foss.org/) to share my desktop keyboard/mouse with a laptop sitting to the side, and run an assortment of remote-access tools (x2go, NX, vmware client, vnc, etc.) that also grab the mouse/keyboard/clipboard. Sometimes it seems like x2go is conflicting with synergy but it is not very consistent - and sometimes anything that keeps the network very busy will make synergy unresponsive. I will commit & push it once it is tested enough. It will be the commit for bug 422. 2. "--console" is enabled for x2goclient.exe, that's why you see a terminal open up when you launch X2Go Client. When 4.0.2.0 is released, this will be disabled. 3. If 4.0.2.0 were to be released tomorrow with this patch, the installer will be more like 24.8 MB, not 30.7 MB. This installer is larger because I included the pulseaudio source code, and because I included lots of unneeded pulseaudio modules (.DLL files.) 4. Buggy File & Folder sharing

Hi, File & Folder sharing seems to be buggy : I works well for me, using x2go client 3.99.0.5 on ubuntu 12.04 64bits. x2gomountdirs succeeds in mounting local folders. It uses sshfs adresses in the form local_client_user_name@127.0.0.1:server_port/local_path Nevertheless, I doesn't work with a Xubuntu 12.04 32bits client neither with a MAC OS X client : x2gomountdirs tries to mount adresses in the form local_path/ - ie not using ssh port forwarding -. It can not succeed since local_path does not exist on the server ! Problem seems to be linked only to client OS configuration : users have well been added to the fuse group on server. Any ideas (client ssh configuration, ...) ? Resolution Problem openSuSE 13.1 vs 12.3 & Debian 7.4.0

Hi everybody, i am testing openSuSE 13.1 right now and i have a problem with the automatic setting of a full-screen-resolution. It works without any problem on a Debian 7.4.0 and a openSuSE 12.3, on 13.1 the vertical resolution of 1920 is correct but horizontal resolution is around 1200 instead of 1080. The taskbar on the bottom and the top pixels are outside the screen and the mouse can't reach it. The auto-mounter-pop-up can be half seen, so it looks like 1920x1200 is set. The client is always a windows-x2go-client with exactly the same config, the only difference is a changed ip-address as server so i can test in parallel. Anybody had that problem before? Below is a version-comparison in case that helps. Issue with heuler?

Hi All - I've recently have had trouble installing x2goserver in virtual machines using the heuler (nightly builds) mirrors. The install hangs on "[info] Cleaning up stale X2go sessions" which I would guess is odd given that the virtual machine is "brand new" and has yet to run any x2go sessions. Q: is this something on my end, maybe a dns issue? Has anyone else seen this? Thanks!

Hi Les, At the studio site you can rebuild a disto and turn them into live-images (usb, iso, virtuals) or installable/deploy-images (usb,iso). On the tab addition-repo's you can search for x2go (that is available on the OBS) It's free of charge, site: https://susestudio.com Amount of time it takes to build varies a lot, from 2 minutes till 30 minutes, depending how busy the engines in the background are. Results can be kept privately, or shared with the community. x2go loadbalancing with HAProxy

Hi, As promised I tell you about my experience with loadbalancing x2go. I had first tried to use the default loadbalancing setup of x2go broker. It was working fine except that the Windows client was not connecting to the https broker (due to a bug in the client). It has been fixed quickly and I thank the development team for their reactivity. In the meanwhile, I had looked up alternative solutions and here is what I set up : The broker is a simple HAProxy <http://haproxy.1wt.eu/> loadbalancer configured for ssh connections balancing. For us it listens on port 10000 and dispatches ssh/tcp connections over 2 x2go servers on ports 22 (the default ssh port !). The balancing algorithm is based upon source ip hashing : It gives returning users a chance to be sent to the same x2go server next time and have the possibility to resume a suspended session (better than round-robin). Advantages of that solution : - x2go servers are not exposed to the outside world and there is no need to open ports on the firewall for each x2go server : You only need to open ports for the loadbalancer, which you can put in your dmz. - HAProxy cares to dispatch connections only to x2go servers that are up (timeout configuration). - Authentication is only made once on x2go servers (they are configured with ldap_pam). - No need to install a session broker agent on x2go servers. Drawbacks : - When a user connects with a different public ip, he wont probably be sent to the same x2go server where he could have a suspended session. - Authentication is not made by the loadbalancer so there aren't acl management as with the regular x2go broker. - Every connections transit through the loadbalancer so there might be a little overhead. HAProxy is pretty optimized though and it is not noticeable. I join hereby the HAProxy configuration file I am using. It really works fine for us. I hope it will be useful to others. x2go Mac client and OS X firewall

Hello I use x2go 4.1.3 OS X client on Mavericks (10.9.2). It is used to connect to a Linux system, cat /proc/version below: Linux version 3.12.9-301.fc20.x86_64 (mockbuild@bkernel02) (gcc version 4.8.2 20131212 (Red Hat 4.8.2-7) (GCC) ) #1 SMP Wed Jan 29 15:56:22 UTC 2014 % x2goversion x2goagent: 3.5.0.21 x2goserver: 4.0.1.13 x2goserver-extensions: 4.0.1.13 x2goserver-fmbindings: 4.0.1.13 x2goserver-xsession: 4.0.1.13 I use disk sharing between server and client as well. My OS X Firewall is ON, under Options, the “Block all incoming connections” is UNCHECKED, and both “Automatically allow signed software to receive incoming connections” and “Enable stealth mode” are checked. Every time I connect to the server, OS X firewall pops up a message asking 'Do you want the application “x2goclient.app” to accept incoming network connections?’ I have taken the following steps: 1. Clicked “yes”, which adds /Applications/x2goclient.app to the OS X Firewall 2. Remote Login (SSH) is already allowed to receive incoming connections 3. Manually added the following apps to allow incoming connections: - /Applications/x2goclient.app/Contents/MacOS/x2goclient - /Applications/x2goclient.app/Contents/exe/nxproxy - /usr/libexec/sftp-server - /usr/sbin/sshd However OS X still prompts me whenever a connection is made to the remote session, or when a new session is started. X2Go - Ubuntu 13.10 - LXDE Session Logout

Hi, Firstly, well done to the team behind X2GO, excellent work, and hoping to get involved once we are up to speed... We have noticed a number of problems with using LXDE on Ubuntu recently. Initially, under a 12.04 (.3?) build ( 3.5 Kernel ), we had LXDE working fine/well, with the bindings etc correct. logout was fine. 12.04 got upgraded to 12.04.4 and the kernel moved to 3.8. LXDE still works, but the logout button/process doesnt work anymore. the session simply seems to reset, and stay active. We have also tried a vanilla 13.10 server build ( 3.11 kernel ) , with x2goserver, Same outcome. The only way to close the LXDE session, in both cases, is to exit the client.. When you log back in as the user, the original session is 'Suspended'. Build Sequence ( in both cases ) # apt-get install xfce4 xfce4-goodies lxde lxpanel lxsession pcmanfm openbox lxde-common firefox zenity # add-apt-repository ppa:x2go/stable # apt-get update # apt-get install software-properties-common python-software-properties x2goserver x2goserver-xsession x2golxdebindings ( Notice no ubuntu-desktop load, trying to keep the install clean and secure ) . Ive googled around, and have seen - Problems with startlbuntu and lxde-session between versions - systemd causing pam wrap and config to screw up .. Has anybody else noticed this.. found a work around ? I can confirm that 13.04 (raring) builds are not longer available in the stable PPA: https://launchpad.net/~x2go/+archive/stable or in the nightly PPA: https://launchpad.net/~x2go/+archive/ppa However, they are still available in the Baikal LTS PPA: https://launchpad.net/~x2go/+archive/baikal Could you please try the Baikal LTS PPA? https broker-url and Windows x2go client

Hi, As this is my first post on the mailing list, I would like to congratulate the development team for the great work with x2go : It is allowing us to give access to our Linux image outside the wall of the Faculty at very low cost. I have set up an x2go broker server with https enabled : Apache Virtual Host + wsgi + plain + inifile + pam_ldap authentication. Connecting to the broker and getting connection profile works like a charm from an Ubuntu 12.04 x2go client (using --broker-url=https://x2go_broker_ip/plain/inifile) But, I keep getting a connection error (Failed Authentication) from a Windows x2go client (I am testing with version 4.0.1.3 on Windows XP). Bug has already been filed (*258 days old)*: http://bugs.x2go.org/db/22/229.html It is extremely annoying : It prevents us from deploying x2go largely in our University ! Any plans to solve this issue ? restricting arbitrary ssh commands

Hello Everyone, I am trying to figure out a way to have X2Go work without giving the user ssh access to the server. The approach I have taken is to use XDMCP. I have created a new 'switcher' user on the server, who connects with ssh keys and launches XDMCP where the real user can authenticate. However, I have problems restricting the access of this initiating 'switcher' user. I thought it would be enough to allow him to run x2gostartagent with the ssh key, i.e. command="/usr/bin/x2gostartagent ${SSH_ORIGINAL_COMMAND#* }" ssh-rsa... However, on closer inspection with acct I have noticed that there are several commands run before x2gostartagent, apparently including several instances of bash. Is bash used directly, or would restricting ssh commands to x2gopath, x2gosyslog, x2gostartagent, (...?) work? Or would it be possible to put 'switcher' in a chroot jail, and then have the XDMCP-authenticated user outside of it? From what I can see, NX3.5 approached this by encapsulating everything in nxserver, which was then set in /etc/passwd as the shell of the nx user. The goal is to prevent the user from executing arbitrary commands, in particular initiating data transfers. Any ideas or comments most appreciated Many thanks, Kris

Session resume problems

Hello, I have been using x2go for many months now, client (Debian amd64 4.0.1.1-1), x2goserver (Debian amd64 4.0.1.6-0) .. is the current version, but it's been the same ever since. I use it in the "single application" mode, starting only xfce4-terminal and all the other windows are spawned from that terminal. What happens is that very often (I would say 20-30% of the cases -- it's not deterministic), I would resume a session, it is "resumed", but no windows appear. Nothing helps, suspending and resuming does not work. The only thing to do is to terminate the session and start anew. It's quite annoying:) I wonder if anyone has this issue or am I doing something wrong / non-standard? How can I debug this? BTW, I use awesome wm now, but the same was happening to me on xfce, too thanks for any suggestions / pointers -- Ondrej

Nightly builds for Fedora and EPEL

Our RPM packages currently build against various Fedora (18-21 atm) versions [1] and against EPEL (5+6) [2]. The nightly built RPMs still need some work here and there (QA work is still in process), but we are happy to share the test load. Hi, I configured a shared folder with my x2go Windows client. I noticed that sometimes the mount doesn't work and I get this error in mounts.log: fuse: mountpoint is not empty fuse: if you are sure this is safe, use the 'nonempty' mount option to solve the issue I have to run this commands: fusermount -z -u /tmp/.x2go-USER_NAME/media/disk/_cygdrive_FOLDER sudo rm -R -f /tmp/.x2go-USER_NAME/media/disk/_cygdrive_FOLDER and restart. Any idea why this happens and how to prevent it? Could be a solution to insert the -nonempty option in the mount command, where I can find this in the scripts? I'm a beginner with x2go and I'm not an expert with linux either. Thanks in advance for your help.

x2go Session Broker Configuration

Fellow x2go users, I am having issue's configuring & fully understanding the session broker. I am following the instructions at http://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/doc:installation:x2gobroker#installing_x2go_s… can not figure out how to use it. Looks like the tab key cycles focus among open windows of a given application (e.g., multiple terminals). Pressing ctrl-tab gives the correct filename-completion behavior. Everything works fine when I connect from a Windows X2Go client. I've had keyboard mapping issues with the OS X client previously, so my guess would be that the problem is with it. I'm running X2Go Client V. 4.0.1.3 on OS X 10.9.1 and connecting to X2Go Server on Ubuntu 13.10 that reports as: x2goagent: 3.5.0.22 x2goserver: 4.0.1.13 x2goserver-extensions: 4.0.1.13 The problem is that the tab key on my Mac doesn't generate a tab character in the X2Go session. It doesn't perform filename completion in bash or emacs or a tab function in text editors. In bash, the cursor does become hollow when the tab key is pressed. I can get filename completion in bash by hitting esc three times. Needing three presses seems odd—it's usually two. Any suggestions on restoring functionality in tab? —Andreas

Recovering uncooperative sessions

Fellow x2go users, I have opened a session, worked in the session some, then suspended it. Today (a day later) I tried to open the session same from a different client but can not get the session to resume. Is there any hope to get this recovered or is it a lost cause? The last line with the pulse audio is repeated hundreds of times. Unity Greeter with X2Go Remote Login Support

Hello everyone... After testing and beta-deploying X2Go services for some test users (developers/qa/it - who really liked it), i was trying to implement the x2go-broker into lightdm. I followed the steps in http://blog.x2go.org/index.php/2013/04/28/289/. First of all, "get-build-deps debian/control" seems to be replaced by "mk-build-deps debian/control" ... After compiling, installing and configuring i see the additional login in lightdm. Our Active Directory enabled (using likewise-open -> pam) broker delivers https://x2go-broker.our.domain.com/uccs/inifile/api/4 , asks for user/password and prints the json-object containing all configured servers. When lightdm starts, i can see some traffic between the machine and the broker. Logging in seems not to work, i've tested "test.account@intern", "test.account(a)our.domain.com" and even a local test user (on the broker, right?) There is no communication between the broker and lightdm/unity-greeter when trying to login. How can i help you further? (debugging,..) As this is a relly nice and seemless solution for our clients, i think we cann afford some sponsoring there too. regards Stefan

sshfs through broker

I'm just trying to adjust the x2go-setup to our needs... When i'm directly connected to one of my x2go-servers, the sshfs-tunnel works perfect. Pasting the config lines to the broker config file, i see a sshfs process running (server side), the server appears in /var/log/auth.log (client side), no error in mounts.log but no mounted folder appears.

connecting to same session via different networks

I routinely run a session that I connect to via one network address during the work day, and then connect via a different address from home. I setup 2 sessions on the client side. They have the same 'name', but different network addresses. This all seems to work perfectly. I'm just wondering how it works. Do I get the same session because I gave them the same name? Can I setup multiple different sessions by giving them different names?

Have I found a bug or does X2Go Client win32 require 3D acceleration?

I was however able to start a new session to a different x2goserver: http://i.imgur.com/SVJzbg0.png The x2goclient is running on a windows 7 SP1 32-bit VM (with all available "recommended" and "important" windows updates, but not the 3 "optional" updates) hosted on Fedora 20 64-bit's Virt-Manager. I am connecting to the Windows 7 VM via-virt-viewer 0.6.0 with SPICE and 32-bit color. Whether you're using virt-viewer over the network or you're accessing the VM directly on the host through virt-manager, there is no support for 3D acceleration currently. Start up constrained to local screen size (above task bar) possible?

Is there any way to make an x2go client (windows in particular) start at a size that fits on the local screen above the task bar even if connecting to a running session that was started at a larger size - and then resize the remote desktop to fit? I'd like to be able to start sessions from a desktop PC and be able to pick them up and continue easily on a smaller laptop. Having the bottom left corner of the window always appear where I can see it (and reach with the mouse if subsequent resizing is needed) would save a lot of contortions. -- Les Mikesell lesmikesell(a)gmail.com

Should it be possible to start a session on a linux/centos host from a windows x2go client, then later connect to the session from a mac? I can pick up the screen, but the keyboard input is garbage - numbers for letters, etc. Haven't tried starting a fresh session from the mac so I don't if the keyboard works in that situation - but maybe I am just missing some setting. Resolution of logged in Session / non-clickable Area

Hi, apart from the other problem i just posted i have a problem inside a x2go-Session. Whenever i log into a session (doesn't matter if on a openSUSE or Debian-Host, tried both) i always have an area in the upper left corner which is working perfectly fine (looks like it has dimensions of 800x600), applications open up there, i can control them, all good. But the screen is way bigger than that and everything between that square area and the working and clickable taskbar/systray on the bottom of the screen is black and the mouse-pointer switches to the default-xorg-cross-style one. When i maximize a window it works and i can see the whole window, but only the area on the upper left is clickable. Many times the program crashes after i minimize or resize it and the whole session is dead and only shows black until i reconnect. I already tried the fix with disabling the X2GO_NXAGENT_DEFAULT_OPTIONS line in x2goagent.options but that didn't make any difference (and i don't even know if it applies to my problem ;-)) So i hope anybody can shed some light on that issue ;-) Thank you! Limiting clipboard sharing

Hello, I am quite new to X2Go, and really impressed by it. I'd like to switch from opennx to X2Go, but I can't find a way to limit clipboard sharing. Opennx, as well as other NX forks, has the options to enable clipboard sharing both ways, one-way, or disable it completely. So far I have failed to find a setting to limit this in X2Go. I'd need clipboard sharing to work only in the client->server direction, or at least to disable it completely. I have searched for it for quite a while, but the best I have managed to find is a bug report http://bugs.x2go.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=258 and a mailing list question without a single reply. Is there some way to configure it? If not, is it going to be hard to write a patch that would turn this off at compilation time? I've also been thinking of using some external programs to achieve the effect, e.g. putting X2Go inside Xephyr, or the other way round... Any hints most welcome Many thanks, Kris

I start x2godesktopsharing app from user 'foo' and try to connect via user 'bar'. When I try to connect, user 'foo' on x2go-server got popup window "Allow access bar?", I press "Yes". After some seconds I got the message on x2go-client "Access denied from user". sound is really bad

I updated to x2goclient-4.0.1.3-2.fc20.x86_64 (but did not update libssh). I started a new session. Now there is sound, but it's really bad. I tried playing the stream of a radio station via chrome. The sound is very choppy, and it seems to be playing very slowly! The connection is to a machine sitting next to me via 1G enet.

Hi all, I'm experiencing keyboard layout issues when connecting from a Mac laptop with OSX 10.9.1 to our Ubuntu 12.04 server running x2goserver version # 4.0.1.13-0~814~ubuntu12.04.1. The client version is 4.0.1.1. The keyboard layout is completely messed up, I noticed a few bug reports and version updates accordingly, however the problem still exists. vcxsrv crash

When trying to connect to the local desktop on Fedora 20 x64 with base or x2go based server packages from Windows 8.1 x64 with the binary 4.0.1.2 client, vcxsrv crashes whereas a new session works fine. Is this something known or specific to Windows 8.1 possibly? Thanks, jlc

I notice that if I forget to cleanly terminate the connection, that the next time I try to connect, it won't succeed unless first I suspend and then resume. Just a minor annoyance - I wonder if it can't be automated.

X2GO-TCE Grey area at the right side of the login-screen

Hi, when booting the x2go-TCE i always have a grey area at the right side of the screen where the original Sessions included in TCE where listed. How do i get rid of that? Thanks in advance! Mike, I appreciate your response. I found out about the x2go session broker after I sent my previous email and was wondering if that was the piece I was missing. The only information I could find on it was this page http://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/doc:installation:x2gobroker and it only seems to have install instructions for Debian based linux distro's. We are on RH/CentOS and I searched for the x2go session broker package's with no luck. Does anyone know if there is plan's for a RH/CentOS release? Postgres backend for X2GO

All, My employer is thinking about using x2go as our thin client solution. I am trying to get the postgres backend setup. I have the database up and have added some user's however I am not able to migrate my session between 2 node's. Is this what the postgres backend is for or am I misunderstanding it's use? Fedora libssh Problem (100% cpu)

100% reproducible. With the latest libssh f20 update, x2go uses 100% cpu (on 2 cpus) Update to libssh.x86_64 0:0.6.0-1.fc20 I get an error message (as I showed) on connect, and 100% cpu Downgrade to libssh-0.5.5-1.fc20.x86_64 Problem gone

x2go client using 100% cpu!

I was a happy x2go user up until just now. I ran a yum update, perhaps related. Now ever time I connect, x2go client uses 100% cpu (actually, 100% of 2 cpus) Perhaps related, I always get an error message, a picture is attached. I tried rm -rf ~/.x2go on the server, to make sure I'm getting a clean start

I think the x2go proxy can do that. Mike Gabriel and others could give you a definite answer. Stefan Baur's instructions for using SSH forwarding via the command line will work. Just note that in the SSH server settings, you will need to enable TCP forwarding if it is not enabled by default. The settings are usually in /etc/ssh/sshd_config . I think that you can also use x2go client's built in feature to use a "proxy server". I think this feature is just SSH forwarding. Ultimately, which way of doing SSH forwarding is your preference. To use the x2go client's built in feature: 1. In x2go client, define a session for each x2go server host your ultimately want to connect to. The host should be the hostname or the IP address of the x2go server host 2. Under the preferences for each session, enable "Use Proxy server for SSH connection". Then enter the vpn client box's hostname or IP address as the "host" of the proxy server. The "type" of proxy server should set to "SSH". And of course, you can use x2go to connect to this headless box. I recommend you install the full desktop environment you intend to use, but disable X from starting automatically. How to do this varies from distro to distro. For example, on Red Hat and Fedora, you would make the default runlevel 3 instead of 5. Keyboard problem with Del key in XFCE

Hi, I am trying to debug a strange problem with the keyboard in a x2go session to a server using XFCE and OpenSuse 13.1. The session works fine but the "Del" key does not work. These were the steps I followed: - Initially the "Del" key behaved like the print screen key and there were other keys behaving oddly like Insert key or cursor keys that did not work - Changing x2goclient session preferences from current preferences to keyboard map "es" and model to "pc105/es" did not do produce any change - Modifying XFCE keyboard configuration and specifying the keyboard model as "Generic 105 key (Intl) PC" in the advanced options makes the cursor keys work and "Del" stops behaving like print screen. I have checked session.log and the only error I see is: nxagentXkbGetRules: WARNING! Failed to stat file [/usr/local/lib/nx/X11/xkb/rules/xorg]: Unknown error -1. In fact this warning appears also in other server I have running Scientific Linux 6.4 and Gnome where keyboard works correctly. Running xev I see "Del" key is not recognized as a KeyPress event but as a series of FocusOut, FocusIn and KeymapNotify events: FocusOut event, serial 36, synthetic NO, window 0x2e00001, mode NotifyGrab, detail NotifyAncestor FocusIn event, serial 36, synthetic NO, window 0x2e00001, mode NotifyUngrab, detail NotifyAncestor KeymapNotify event, serial 36, synthetic NO, window 0x0, keys: 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 I would really appreciate any hint about how to continue debugging the problem.
