Postgres configuration for load balancing

Greetings, While I haven't been able to compile the x2go client for our IGELs, I'm pushing forward with the project using the existing version. As such, I'm trying to create a load balancing cluster, but I'm stuck adding users to the postgresql database, and I need to do a sanity check. Assumption 1: I have to manually create each user in the database for that user to have group membership and/or be able to log in and create a session on the load balanced server. Assumption 2: The x2godbadmin script must be run as root to gain access to the root-only file containing the postgres database managment user's password. If either of those assumptions are incorrect, please advise. My problem is that all of our home directories are on root-squashed NFS volumes. As the script is running under root's context, the script is unable to create ~/.x2go/sqlpass, which would seemingly prevent the user from being able to utilize any member of the load balancing cluster. Obviously, if I can simply pass through PAM credentials and LDAP lookups without the need for this information to live in a postgresql database, none of this is a problem. Likewise, if I can run the x2godbadmin script as each individual user, while extremely painful, I can write a script to do this. Am I way off in the woods on my logic here? Thanks! -- Kermit Short

Possible to use server SSH key like FreeNX?

Dear readers, In FreeNX it is possble to change the default SSH key, so in addition to have a valid username+passphrase to the host, the user also needs a SSH key. The SSH key is the same for all users. Is this also possible in x2go? Kindest regards, Jasmine =)

edubuntu and x2go

Apparently I didn't take good notes the first time, so I'm trying to redo my process (I've already found some things I may not have done the first time, even though it was working). I have been able to write a script that creates symlinks to some of the objects and libraries in this custom partition, but the binary itself has to build and reside all in one file tree. x2go printer howto

client and server are both fedora 20. I install cups-x2go on server (and x2goserver-printing). I setup a cups-x2go printer on server on kde environment. On the client I resumed session, with printing enabled (I did not try starting a new session). On server, I can open kde printer settings and try printing a test page. It seems successful. Nothing is printed. How to debug?

Hello all, I try to activate the client-side printing feature. I'm using CentOS 6.5 with XFCE 4.8 and X2go version 4.0.1.10-1.el6. I installed the package x2goserver-printing-4.0.1.10-1.el6.x86_64 but there is no cups-x2go package in the repos. I do not need this package anymore? Can someone help me? Best regards, Michael

Is there some way to enable a log like /var/log/Xorg.0.log so that I can debug an issue I have? I know about x2goserver's loglevel setting in /etc/x2go/x2goserver.conf: http://code.x2go.org/gitweb?p=x2goserver.git;a=blob;f=x2goserver/etc/x2gose… But I am looking for a way to enable logging in x2goagent/nxagent. -Mike#2

My goal: I just want individual applications to provide (example: browser). This application will then be placed on a Windows client as an icon on the desktop. What do I do? GNOME desktop from OS X

Hello, The keyboard mapping is incorrect when when connecting to an EL6 system using X2Go with the GNOME desktop from OS X (using an apple keyboard). KDE, Icewm, etc. work fine. Any suggestions for using the GNOME desktop with X2Go from OS X would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Devin

Hi! I started using x2Go in my LAN between different GNU+Linux systems, when connecting to the servers I have these warnings: Info: Not using NX delta compression. Info: Not using ZLIB data compression. Info: Not using ZLIB stream compression. Info: Not using a persistent cache. How can I enable them? I plan to use x2Go on connections through the internet and in some cases the upload speeds are quite limited; on other cases the whole connections are just a pain so data compression and persistent cache are features really appreciated! X2Go Ubuntu upgrade stuck at "Cleaning up stale X2Go sessions"

Hi, I'm using X2Go (4.0.1.14-0~842~ubuntu13.10.1) on Ubuntu 13.10. I let Ubuntu's update manager upgrade the package yesterday, and it got stuck at: * Cleaning up stale X2Go sessions. I killed the upgrade process, rebooted and ran "sudo dpkg --configure -a", and once again, it's stuck at the same point. Is there anything I can do manually to let the update proceed past this point? — Jason Heeris

Further Info: 1) I'm guessing it's a race condition, with two instances of x2gocleansessions running simpultaneously and locking each other up: e.g. sample output: ps ax|grep clean 1995 ? S 0:36 /usr/bin/perl /usr/sbin/x2gocleansessions 16142 pts/0 S+ 0:05 /usr/bin/perl /usr/sbin/x2gocleansessions 2) The kill command given below in my previous e-mail doesn't work. What worked was this: ps ax | grep x2gocleansessions | grep perl \ | awk ' { print $1 }' | xargs -n 1 kill (the backslash is so it can be broken up in two lines) You have to run this in a second terminal session (as root) while the apt-get upgrade process is stuck in the first. Printing on RHEL 6.5 Server

I'm trying to print from a RHEL 6.5 server running both x2goserver and cups to a Fedora 20 client. Both are running x2go 4.0.1.3. I have installed the x2goserver-printing and cups-x2go packages for RHEL. I have added the virtual printer to the cups server. On the client I have setup printing to show the dialog and start evince to view the PDF. When I attempt to print something, select the virtual printer, then click print, nothing happens. I see a pdf file in the cups spool directory but nothing in the client spool directory. When I attempt to manually copy the pdf file to this directory nothing happens. Maybe this is expected. I see from strace that x2goclient is reading the contents of the client spool directory and the number of files changes but it doesn't do anything. Is there something related to fuse and sshfs that prevents the cups/x2goserver processes from copying over the generated PDF? Is copying the file to the client spool directory not enough? Is there some other sort of signal passed from the server to the client to initiate printing? Below are the log messages I get when I try to print, which doesn't seem to have any clear error messages. Keyboard mapping hosed with latest update

I've run into the same problem as Panayotis with x2goserver freezing on "cleaning up stale x2go sessions" during the upgrade process. I can break out from that, but connecting from the Windows x2go client v4.0.1.3 results in a keyboard mapping that's completely hosed: q maps to y, w maps to t, etc.

In the past I think there was a problem when I tried to launch a client (as xterm session), and which I was unable to properly close, so I forced close it. The problem is that I am unable to upgrade through apt-get upgrade though. Now when I try to upgrade I get this message: Processing triggers for menu (2.1.46) ... Again x2go and network manager

Hi guys, sorry to warm up this topic again. We upgraded to Kubuntu 13.10. Now network manager is again not working. Because of the problems of the earlier Ubuntu versions we already have corrected all .../polkit-1/actions to the same for interactive. Now we are not able to activate the network manager again. We do need to have a this gui for vpn etc. We are lost. Any ideas? Thanks, Matt

Hi Mike, we talked some month back about me helping with some X2go documentation. I wrote some things, kinda like a newbie intro, please see here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ioso0_lZkIQrgYkhvbaZg8PBgwqG9u-uEDWtG5z… I don't know how the wiki works and how to get write access to it, otherwise I would include it right away. I logged into the IRC chatroom, but I don't know if I did it correctly (my first time on IRC ever), because I saw nobody else online. It might be easier to discuss this over IRC, but I would have to see about timing (my time zone is PST) In the linked document, you see that I mention 2 Videos, one about a typical X2go session and one about how Thinclient looks like, I still have to do these video. I'm using the official network rendering plugin of Blender. It allows to set a master server, that coordinates all the rendering effort. Then you set slaves that do the actual rendering and connect to the master. Then, from a blender instance set to client, you can send render requests to the master and that then distributes it around to the slaves. I have some GPUs sitting around that I want to attach to x2go servers and use them as slaves. So you run at least 3 instances of blender with these 3 different roles. The configuration in Blender for this cannot be done on the command line so far (the render script is still marked as experimental) and for this I need to start up blender with the interface, which I cannot. I did setup some .blend files that are set on master and slave to run these via the command line, but that no longer works for some reason. It might be that the config got changed, but I cannot even get into the GUI to check. The funny thing is that before I had the ATI card in the X2go server, it worked flawlessly. The GUI rendering was not fluid, but pretty usable. Now that I installed the proprietary drivers on it and X is running on the server (a strange requirement in order to use GPU rendering at all), blender segfaults. I would be interested in the rendering script that you might have, but I won't be able to use it if I cannot set the configuration on the server to use the right compute device, and so far it looks like blender, as GUI program does not offer the full configuration options on the command line. Win32 X2Go Client: Please Test nightly 4.0.2.0 build with newer dependencies

Here it is http://code.x2go.org/releases/binary-win32/x2goclient/heuler/mingw32-4.4/qt… I am asking for testers. If you do encounter a bug, please see if you can reproduce the bug on this build without the new dependencies: http://code.x2go.org/releases/binary-win32/x2goclient/heuler/mingw32-4.4/qt… (Note: Both builds do have PulseAudio 5.0. That's the only updated dependency in the latter compared to 4.0.1.3+build2 .) Also, you may notice that the file size is smaller for the build with new dependencies. LXDE window decoration flickers

Hi all. I have installed x2goserver on a Fedora 20 machine. In general, it works like charm, but on a LXDE session, the window decoration flickers on mouse over. Is there a way to get rid of this flickering? Greets Marcus

x2go server for windows

Hello, I¹m looking for info on x2go server for windows. Is there a package available for XP/7/8/Server? I was in a NetApp class last week. We did our labs in a VM environment and used x2go to access RedHat and Windows 2012 VM, which worked nicely. I would like to try to implement x2go in my environment. I support a Virtual Computer Lab (VCL) at GMU and x2go looks very interesting as access method. Running Blender 3d in X2go

Hi, Blender worked in X2go before. But now I installed the ATI Graphics card drivers and now the program crashes with the following error: X Error of failed request: GLXBadRenderRequest Major opcode of failed request: 147 (GLX) Minor opcode of failed request: 1 (X_GLXRender) Serial number of failed request: 153 Current serial number in output stream: 178 Segmentation fault Of course I don't want to have to run Blender on the screen attached to the graphics card, as this is a headless server. Why does the installation of the GPU driver interfere with X2go? Is the GLX being used of the GPU instead of the X2go virtual display? Thanks, Markus

Problem with Autologin through SSH Tunnel

Hi, I am seeing a problems with a new set up environment using the broker with SSH tunneling and session autologin. I start x2goclient connecting to my broker, log in, receive a list of session profiles, select the one that uses auto login, enter my SSH proxy password and get asked to enter a password for some key. RHEL 7 beta

Are there any tricks to getting an x2go session to work with the x2goserver package from EPEL for the RHEL 7 beta distribution? My first attempts asking for a gnome session from a windows client connect, open a window, but then display an 'Oh no! Something has gone wrong' error message instead of drawing the desktop. Hi, when i connect using X2go from a windows host to a linux host, on the linux host the following mountpoint appears: bernd.lentes@127.0.0.1:/cygdrive/D/DOCUME~1/BERNDL~1.000/X2GO~1/S-67AA~1/spool on /tmp/.x2go-root/spool/C-root-52-1395158341_stDKDE_dp32 type fuse.sshfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,default_permissions) Can anyone explain me why x2go uses a mountpoint to connect to a remote host ? Another mystery for me is why can't i access the folder /tmp/.x2go-root/spool/C-root-52-1395158341_stDKDE_dp32. And i don't find the folder /tmp/.x2go-root/spool/C-root-52-1395158341_stDKDE_dp32 on my windows systems. Using df on the linux host hangs without giving results. Terminating the connection df runs fine. Can anyone put a bit light on it for me ? Thanks in advance. having problems in installing X2Go Server on SLES 11 SP3

Hi, i'd like to install X2Go on a SLES 11 SP3 host, 64bit. I have installed the rpm for the server sucessfully, it has been version 4.0.1.8-2.5. There was a dependency which i resolved: Installing: perl-DBD-SQLite-1.40-30.1 [done]. When i try to connect from the Windows client, i get this error: http://www.directupload.net/file/d/3565/zdwseya3_jpg.htm Following https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6729 , i did "x2godbadmin --createdb". The next error appeared: install_driver(SQLite) failed: "Unable to get DBI state function. DBI not loaded. at /usr/lib/perl5/5.10.0/x86_64-linux-thread-multi/DynaLoader.pm line 226. Compilation failed in require at (eval 6) line 3. at /usr/sbin/x2godbadmin line 92" Can anyone help me in installing the X2go Server ? Until now, i've been very happy in using X2go, the connections are more stable than the ones from nomachine origin. Thanks in advance. Multi display - only for thin clients?

Hello everybody, there is the question how to use multi display for X2Go. The client does have the Xinerama option, but reading the wiki http://wiki.x2go.org/doku.php/doc:usage:multi-display I understand this is for thin clients only? Also, man x2goclient does not mention this at all. I have got only one monitor at my setup, therefore I am not able to test this myself. Thanks a lot, tobias
